I love her climbing so much. She is so chil about every move and makes close to zero mistakes. Always placing feet and hands exactly where they have to be without much readjustments. Its just awesome to see.
A lot of climbers complain about tall people having an unfair advantage, but this is a good example of perfect "short climbing" - she keeps a perfect center of gravity while keeping her feet and hands close together. Not just perfect technique, but great hip flexibility to stay under her hands, and use of sit-backs, drop knees, heel hooks where others would use more dynamic (and risky) moves.
The more you climb and revisit this video, it becomes quite apparent how impeccable and precise each move is. It's brilliant, being a beginner, almost every technique I use in climbing is from watching her climb.
David Milner “Grab the holds like they’re made out of glass” and “climb silently” - I forget where I heard these tips from (Paul Robinson might’ve said them in a Rock Entry/Geek Climber video) but both emphasize what novice climbers like myself often forget: control.
I've been watching Jain Kim now almost every day for more than a month. It has made me a way better technical climber! Her movements just adapts naturally for me on the wall. Nowadays I always look for a higher foot, my hip turns in automatically when it should and I can feel the difference in difficulty with those technical adjustments.
My palms are sweating just watching this. I'm a brand new climber and I can only dream of doing what this woman does - completely fearless and smooth. Beautiful to watch.
Agoraphobication hah, it gets much worse when ur actually up there, and after hearing the stories about people falling, breaking bones and having their teeth pulled out by the rope, u might as well spray water on ur hands before even starting
I honestly don't get how she does that. Her technique is really fluid. It's beautiful. I've been climbing for a year now and I don't get how she can manage the strength in her hands.. Very often she just seems to be walking directly on the wall with barely any foothold but somehow all of this seems completely effortless. I tried to emulate that a few times and my hands got pumped within 10 seconds. Probably did it wrong and looked like crap doing it too :P
I think women get used to not relying on arm strength, her foot work is very precise and overall her movement is so economical. Her dead pointing is spot on.
i like how she placed her right feet such that the balls contact the hold cause by the time she pushed herself up with her left toe smear, she would be stepping on that hold with her right toes.
Her movement is so smooth and precise and she rarely re-adjusts after grabbing a hold or placing a foot; watching her climb gets me so psyched for ropes!!
I would say that watching this video multiple times, and studying her technique, is such a valuable tool. A world class climber is obviously efficient, so it makes sense to me to emulate most of her moves.
as someome who is a complete novice to climbing/only started bouldering 2 months ago, it would have been cool to put some sort of annotations or pauses with notes to show what techniques she is demonstrating in the video because i had no idea which ones she were doing.
Would love to see the breakdown. A few things I noticed: She has amazing balance, she never barndoors in the slightest and does basically every move in a controlled static motion. You can't do those slow moves if your positioning will throw you too much in a bad direction. hyau23 it'd be cool to hear how you've come since starting climbing. I'm no pro, just a hobbyist who's climbed in gyms for over 6 years. The regular gym rats spank me any day
Tony Ling I'm the same as you, i only go twice a week with friends. When i first started i could only do V3s (with terrible technique might i add...actually still with terrible technique) but currently im able to do up to V6, and 7s if theyre easy. My finger strength has come a long way and im able to do crimps and pinches with ease. Getting a lot of hints and tips from the regular climbers helps especially with heel/toe hooks and learning how and when to flag. I still barn door occasionally though haha. Maybe i should go to a climbing seminar
That's amazing man! It took me a good while longer to get to 6's and 7's and I started on 3's also. I would say once I reached 5's and 6's my progress slowed down a lot because I needed to strength train. anything below I felt like I had good balance to be able to adapt to many types of moves but I wasn't serious enough about my strength training to really go far. Now I'm 5'6 and 125lbs so I'm pretty advantaged compared to most guys. Sure tall people can reach higher but when the route gets tricky you need to be able to stick the holds and keep you weight to the wall. Having long limbs and a heavy torso at the end of those means the tall person physically does not have as much flexibility as I do when it comes to finding a position. The climbing community is great isn't it? :) I've rarely met someone that isn't willing to help, keep it up. I would say if you are just learning your hooks and flags that you pay extra attention to how people balance for example in this video at 1:00 she has both hands up and a foothold at waist height. It seems straighforward to go right foot up and push to the next handhold. But what that would do is force your hip away from the wall in order for your right hand to be anchor and reach with the left. You'd also be right hand right foot anchor with left foot flag, two hinges makes a door. So instead she goes left foot up, right foot flag in order to lean her weight perpendicular to her grip. Then she simply steps up with her left leg and little bit of right arm. Play 1:00-1:04 in slow motion, she could have frozen mid move almost any point without trouble. I always tell new climbers to focus on balance and endurance, strength comes naturally through the activity
She is so chill about every single move and makes close to zero mistakes. Always placing feet and hands exactly where they want to be without much readjustments.
her technique is awesome, it proves you don't have to have massive power to be the best :) nice vid btw!! something for me to aspire too. I will do my 7a route!!!! haha
This is the first time I have seen this wonderful climber, my goodness, she is AWESOME, every move is poetry in motion!!! Excuse me ma'am, could you come to Australia and teach a 55 year old man to climb better??
Anyone else feel their hands start sweating when she's half way up? My palms are getting slippery just thinking about it! I need chalk for RUclips now!
Funny thing is at first I thought it was my hands reaction to having chalk on them for so long, and didn't realize it was from watching the climbing videos, haha.
Jeez, she's so cool! My hands are sweating just watching her. Usually when I have to do grab a crimp I have to readjust a lot for fear of falling, but she's fearless.
It would be great if they zoomed out once in a while so we can have some context of how high she’s going. It could be ten feet or 100 feet but it all looks the same because of how the climb is being filmed zoomed in the whole time.
I've noticed from all her vids that she climbs mainly with hips parallel instead of inside/outside edge and drop knees. But still manages to pull it off perfectly
BrumCraft yes. My climbing coach always gets mad when I choose to go outside edge. When the holds are smaller you have much more efficiency staying parallel and using more legs.
Just a tiny bit of critique, it would've been nicer if you zoomed out a bit, if you were the one who filmed. Especially for people who climb, it's nice to see the moves before they are going to happen.
Thanks for sharing those great videos man ! Definitely inspiring ! It's great to hear about how passionate and humble you are ! I wish you many years of climbing fun and enjoyment ! Hit me up if you ever come to Belgium ! Cheers !
watching I notice how she accelerates into the move - hand or feet- then slows at the point she reaches the hold to land with unerring precision - how I wish I could do the same!! But after watching Jain Kim I do try to emulate her.
I'm a new climber so don't hate me for this comment: It seems to me that for these two climbs she went for the mostly frontal position with a lot of power. for a non-climber like me, I almost loose the feeling für how difficult this really is. Perfection makes it all look so easy
Which is why it says "Perfect climbing technique" :p
She is so graceful
Mmlemonade and slow
Ofc its easy when someone climbing 8c tries a route that is under 7b for sure

you have no technique go climb a cow
Her clips were sloppy at times, but other than that, yeah
7:00 ... That was such a smooth, elegant and beautiful move. I had to replay it like 3 times.
101V She's very flexible on her hips and legs and pretty strong on her shoulders. A move like that takes strenght to hold steady.
Milla Cabral Really isnt that hard of a move to do, but she did make it look very fluid and elegant
101V even my feet are sweating
Incredible
riiight? 4-5 times for me and a mental note
you know mastery when it looks easy.
It makes me believe I can flash it too 😅
Probably not too hard tough. 7c+/8a?
@@alisen19904 /5
@@alisen1990 There's no way that's a 7c+. Looks like a 7a. Or maybe the wall is way more overhanging than it appears from this perspective.
i wouldn't even touch that wall. will leave to experts and do my own thing. GL
So smooth and kind of light, she touches the holds so delicately, like they're fragile. My god she must be strong but she uses it effortlessly.

Having sound issues with video due to copyright. There was music playing at the event over the speakers. Sorry for the silence.
Bouldering Vlog what is that song they blocked at 2:35?
Foxes - Wicked Love (All I Need) :)))
Bouldering Vlog thank you!!!!
Why did you want to know that song lol
Bouldering Vlog I liked it LOL
Cool video, she climbs so smoothly!
Mani, I watch your videos so often.
You are such a good climber
is wall climb with ropes usually more static compared to bouldering?
Yes, but Jain Kim tends to climb even boulders smoothly.
I'm not too sure but for a competition like this they count the moves to the top not the time it takes (hence the smoothness)
In the recent world cup there was a time limit of 6 minutes.
6:40 to 7:05, what a beautiful sequence of rest and technique!
holy cow, that is impressive. no wasted movement and every move is exactly where she wants it
My palms are sweating just watching this. I'm a brand new climber and I can only dream of doing what this woman does - completely fearless and smooth. Beautiful to watch.
Agoraphobication go watch Alex honnold then your hands will Sweat
Agoraphobication hah, it gets much worse when ur actually up there, and after hearing the stories about people falling, breaking bones and having their teeth pulled out by the rope, u might as well spray water on ur hands before even starting

She climbs so smoothly, like dancing on the wall. I watch this video in slow motion over and over againg as a climbing lesson.
Uh I did too :'D
7:00 that move using the toe and trusting her shoes to push her up made me wow :O
Yes , perfect hips mobility
