I ordered a "Premium R15 Router Lift and Motor" and it is clear that it is a different unit from the one you show. The R15 is very solidly built and smooth. The instructions for assembly and set up are clear and it even provides a template and router bits for cutting a hole in your workbench. Mine's new but it looks like it will be a delight to own.
Watching this video.... The biggest question im waiting for you to answer is...... Have you spoke to Rutlands?...... What was their response to this? And why can't you/havent you returned it?
I can hardly see you having an overhanging fence knocking the handle is their problem! And as many others have said, how did Rutlands respond to the other issues?
I have the older version of this router lift and it suffers from the same problem, which is probably why it isn't available any longer - the newer ones may well be better, but they aren't the same dimensions, so if I ever change I'll have to remake my table top, which I'd rather not do! My Rutlands router stopped allowing me to adjust the speed too, and it turned itself to as fast as it could go, probably beyond it's design specifications, and shook itself apart. Thanks to your video, I've ordered a replacement from Peter Sefton instead. Let's hope it's better quality!! Thanks for the tip.
I have installed one this summer, and all have gone well and the build quality is excellent. Maybe they have resolved the issues. I had to ask Rutlands for some advice on wiring and they were very helpful
Hi I have just got one am building a new workshop so I haven’t even took it out the box yet to look at it would Rutland not do anything about this or did you not complain to them how bad it was I have spent a lot of money with them the last few months but not unboxed anything yet hope things have changed since you put that review on it was a year ago I will let you no thanks for that Brian
I don't know if anything has changed because after this I've never bought anyone from them again. I ended up fixing the problem with the cogs for the winding mechanism. The jury's still out with the motor. But now I've got a jessem router plate and a motor from the woodworkers workshop and never looked back. The old rutlands router plate been sold to a friend who's put a different motor in it and their quite happy so it's all good now. I'm not buying from rutlands again, once bitten twice shy.
@@Holtonsfixit101 thank you for your reply and I don’t blame you when you have a bad experience with someone you tend not to go back I will let you no about mine when the time comes thanks again brian
Your very welcome. Saying all this on my channel about the Rutlands router lift and moter. Rutlands have never replied to me or even commented on this video but I don't expect them to.
Thanks for the warning. Was considering buying one, but as I live in norway any issues will be a real pita to deal with warranty wise. So need something with a better design. Thanks for the tip on AUK also.
I’ve noticed several of the Rutlands items are exactly the same as those on Bangood. Makes one wonder if Rutlands isn’t just repackaging the cheap overseas products and selling it for more.
It took ages finding but I think it's MLCS "U-Turn" Router Lift www.mlcswoodworking.com/shopsite_sc/store/html/smarthtml/graphics4/u-turn111_extended300px_big.jpg
I have wondered about Rutlands rebranding stuff. I've kept the faith with them, but not always been entirely happy with their customer service. I am looking at upgrading my cheap router table (Rutlands) and having seen this I think I'll take a look at Axminster. It will be a bit more expensive, but cast iron bed, good reviews and the comments advise of great customer service.
The rpm problem should be rectified by rutlands under warranty, something you should have looked into before your review. As for threst, i think its more rutlands lift doesnt fit the router bench you built!
Rutlands router lifts & motors carry a lifetime warranty don’t they? Just wonder if you’ve been unlucky and got the Friday pm version 😏. I’ve got one of their top adjustment versions coming and don’t expect issues 🤞🏼
Your very lucky to get that I've had any number of problems with the one I bought, motor and lift. I should of gone for better brand in the first place. Oh well learn the hard way.
That's is unfortunte i was hoping to purchase a similar lift. They have a better model where you raise the cuter from the top instead of the side like the one you have but the motor is the same so that's got me concerned. I looked at the AEG router and incra lift but is so expensive.
I replaced this one with the lift from the woodworkers workshop. woodworkersworkshop.co.uk/jessem-mast-r-lift-ii-metric/ I also got the router motor from them to. woodworkersworkshop.co.uk/auktools-2400w-fixed-base-router/ Not done a vid on these two yet but there very good and very much better than the rutlands version
I've got exactly the same problems bought it about 18 months ago but unfortunately just put it all together over the last few weeks what a waste of money . Luckily the motor is OK so will use that in another lift that I will have to buy. Don't buy this lift
I’ve just received two items from Rutland, a sample (pair ) of saw horses both obviously different not a pair ,the other a small pillar drill ,the chuck wobbles like a kenwood mixer and the gear cover panel I had to lever off with a screwdriver because the screw fixing plate was bent !needles to say I won’t be buying anything else from them very very shoddy Chinese imports .
I'm guessing returns are out as he's fettled the mechanics and looks like cut the motor cable to complete a nice install not expecting any issues. I had the same setup and noticed the gear mesh was very poor but I sold it before the mesh deteriorated as I wasn't using it at all and now I am making my own lift, but kept the motor. Hope the electronic speed control doesn't let me down as these items are several hundred quid. Thanks for your video.
Good luck with making your own lift. Woult like to see some photos of that. I really hope your motor works ok for you but if it don't hop on over to the woodworkers workshop they sell the same type of router motor but with upgraded internals and a much better speed controller. woodworkersworkshop.co.uk/auktools-2400w-fixed-base-router/

Yes and no. Yes I've contacted rutlands and no they were not helpful.
@@Holtonsfixit101Well that's absolutely ridiculous!! You need to escalate the problem and not let them away with it if they have sold you a dud.

Had exactly the same problem with the motor, and actually blew the power in the garage, god knows what the electrician will charge.

Yep. The R15 looks identical to both the Wnew model and the ZahoyX model.

@@Holtonsfixit101 The lift has been good, I had an issue with the motor which Rutlands sorted quite quickly
I`ve had mine a couple of weeks and it was perfect right out of the box

not impressed
on their motors now they offer 3 years warranty.
