Show runners are a writer I’ve never heard of but he’s doing good so far and Miguel Sapochnik, he’s the director of episodes like Battle of the bastards and the winds of winter episode right after, hardhome(when Jon went sailing for the Wildlings but he was too late cuz the white walker army came in, dope episode!), and for season 8 he did the long night and the bells(episode 5 I think.) so Sapochnik has definitely directed some of my fav episodes so was pretty exciting to have him on as a show runner, however he just resigned, he says because it was consuming too much of his time and he was ready to move on to another property but who knows what disagreements happened behind the scenes, he was replaced with another director from GOT, the guy who did Baelor episode in season 1, pretty sure that’s the episode Ned Died in. But other than that I’m not familiar with his other feats. Hopefully that won’t diminish the quality of season 2 🤞 I think I heard Sapochnik will stay on as a producer. And also, of course, they are working in much more closer capacity with George RR martin for this show than GOT. George has said several times that he got shut out of GOT in those last few seasons, last thing he did was give them a loose telling of all the things that were to conclude the story. George also didn’t like the lack of magic even though George is big on soft magic systems, he still found it disturbing how much magic and lore they removed and character arcs they changed. Which I think many would agree with so having George have a seat at the table I think is already doing wonders, so far the episodes already feel more fantastical and even spiritual, like when rhaenyra and Alicent were sitting in front of the statue of “the mother” with the candles all around the table. They weren’t jabbering about some corny high fantasy shit or anything but the mood felt very ritualistic, pretty sure there were monks singing in the background too, very Erie. So, so far so good. Hope they can keep it up.
I thought it was going to be mediocre, but episode 2 gains some serious momentum and episode 3 hits solidly. That's probably due to the flash of time of 2-3 years between episode 2 and 3.
There is a dwarf in the book “mushroom”. I think they left him out do to not wanting to have people that didn’t read the book think they were just trying to duplicate GOT.

To add the the CGI and special effects conversation. This is what makes Stanley Kubrick’s “2001:A Space Odyssey” so incredible, the movie was made in 1968 and some of the special effects look better than todays industry leading CGI. Not to mention the prediction of AI, webcams and a multitude of other technologies that came to fruition. Sometimes good camera work trumps the best CGI. The amount of computing power needed to make something appear to us as our eyes would really see it, is astounding.
This story is complete at least in the framework there might be some things that author hasn't wrote or a different point of view but it's not a pleasant story but it's actually pretty gruesome and I can tell by the way they're already doing it that they're not going to pull any punches and they couldn't get the book version of the iron throne and a frame I guess but they improved on it massively
Color shows a big difference in this offshoot of GoT--dress, people, backgrounds. GreyArea, Emergency Awesome, Nerd Soup, In Deep Geek, GameofThrones are all good for Fire and Blood info and breakdowns. Personal fave is GreyArea. Keep up the interesting talk guys. Watch all your "stuff" with my son
Actually there is a different fashion wise between house of the dragon and game of thrones there’s a lot more heraldry in house of the dragon. Even the fashion dress design wise is different . Nth is the same . Not even the maesters look the same.
I haven’t got to see full episodes yet but the scale is so much more impressive next to the first show, the meetings are just absolutely packed, the name day bleachers in HoTD vs GoT are such a huge difference, it feels so much more realistic in so many ways, but more fantastical in so many other ways, I think they are hitting gold.
As someone who has always thought highly of HBO content, I can tell you that the quality has been diluted in the last few years. In the past, all you needed to see were the three letters H.B.O. and you were guaranteed something good to watch. Not the case anymore. But its still better than most other networks. FX will give HBO a run for its money. I'm always impressed by most FX shows I watch.

Trends change today because we're all so connected. Go back a few centuries and shit took forever (decades and centuries) to change. Technology wasn't exponentially growing every year like it is today.
No. There isn't enough story in the Dance arc to go up against all the seasons of GoT. This storyline is 2 seasons at best without stretching it any further. But I guess it's going to cover more than The Dance, so if it gets into Dunk and Egg, Aegon's Conquest, etc, it could rival GoT. But House exists because of GoT. GoT changed the TV landscape by making a series that commanded large scale sets and bigger budgets. House only exists because GoT opened the door wide open.
Its not gonna rival GoT in the humour aspect from season 1-4 as I dont see any character making quirky little jokes here and there like tyrion and bronn did, but the whole political aspect, dialogue and cgi is what will make it special
Theres plenty of story if they actually cover it rather than skipping it. The war of the stepstones was a 9 year proxy war they concluded in 2 episodes.
Moore's law is a term used to refer to the observation made by Gordon Moore in 1965 that the number of transistors in a dense integrated circuit (IC) doubles about every two years.
HOTD is based on George RR Martins “Fire & Blood” book. They have source material to land the ending and won’t have the same issue as GOT. GOT fell off when the show surpassed the source material (books) ASOIF. Episode 3 got 9.9/10 review on IMBD. Off to a great start.
It had to do with Dave and Dan wanting to work on Star Wars….. HBO wanted 2-3 more season but D&D got greedy and wanted to wrap up GoT. Ironically, S8 was so bad that they got cut from Star Wars.
Once again, had nothing to do with source material, all had to do with greed from D&D, which is open knowledge. How you dorks are so confident in your false opinions is beyond me 😂
If you read Fire & Blood, you know whats coming. The Targaryen Civil War, 'The Dance of the Dragons'. absolute slaughter on the ground with burning dragon blood falling on the armies like burning rain, most of the dragons die, horrific destruction and death, the loss of what little Valyrian knowledge is left. If they do it right, its gonna wipe the floor with Game of Thrones.
Rhaenyra should of destroyed the "Hightowers" with her dragon. end of story. Then made her uncle her hand (simply because he is right about everyone using her father for their benefit hence the hand sending his daughter to comfort the king) and her father would go back to their island (can't remember the name now). But we won't have a show if that happened.
Why would she kill her immediate family? She’s human and loves her dad and family… Clearly her character isn’t built that way, and it’ll cause a lot of political turmoil. Hightowers are a powerful family in their own right. Also, I definitely do not think her uncle has the best intentions, he’s power hungry and impulsive. Best case scenario is if Rhaenyra marries her uncle. Sounds wild, but incest is normalized for the Targaryians and it’s better than her marrying her brother (that was an idea thrown in by the king’s hand). With her uncle’s personality, it would make things certainly interesting
About the fashion changes that you guys were talking about, it's the hair do with the women, in GOT Cercei would tell the redhead stark (can't remember her name) that the hairdo in the north is not the fashion trend
No, common- this is lovely because we are all heartbroken about the game of thrones, and subsequent lack of anything that matches its first 4 seasons….. so this is kind of nostalgic watch , with some emotional connection BUT it’s painfully obvious that this is the pale version ( in first 3 episodes there’s semi development of just a few characters, all more or less in the same story ( compared to GOT that had super complex amount of parallel stories and characters ) , characters are ok ( but comparing to GOT pretty shallow and unrealistic) , the whole mood of the cinematography is heavy with CGI instead of so much realness that got had….. and so on…. That said, I watched all 3, will watch the rest and I am painfully aware that it could have been much worse in this weird times we are living in …..
If done correctly if they translate the book well this is going to be bigger than GOT. Because the dance of the dragon's is crazzzyyyyy to say the least.
You’re out of your mind. There’s been 3 episodes and one good part so let’s not get ahead of ourselves. It’s way too early to even compare it to the first season of Game of Thrones let alone the series. There’s one good character so far and that’s Daemon.
@@herodotus7 What are you talking about, are you trolling? That might be the most ridiculous statement anyone has made towards the show when we’re only 3 episodes in. 2 episodes and then a 3 year time jump. Considering GOT had some of the best character development of all time, up until the late seasons, with an insane amount of characters. it’s crazy to even compare it less than a third of the way through. The Better acting comment doesn’t even deserve a response.
Anyone saying that House of Dragon (HoD) is just as good as the original GoT is lying to lie. You can't make such a statement with only three episodes; a better comparison would be the three episodes as compared to the first episode of GoT, and based on that HoD does not hold up. The writing is terrible, the characters aren't fully fleshed and their dialogue makes no sense and the custom design is giving Party City, but I would forgive all of these things if it weren't the biggest flaw that I'm surprised no one has talked about: the actors are not attractive. We all know that ugly by Hollywood standards is still hot to us everyday folk, but most of these actors are barley above average save for Daemon and Sir Criston Cole. The leading girl has a literal horse mouth. I hate to say this because Targaryen was my favourite house and I'm only continuing to watch for the dragons (which there has been LITTLE screentime for) but I suspect that this show won't live past it's nostalgia regardless of it being renewed for a second season. It will be cancelled by season 3 in my opinion.
Muahahhahahah has to be the most dumbest comment i think i have ever read regarding this show..This show will go well beyond season 3 and run until it's conclusion, why because 99.9 % of people watching it so far don't view it in such shallow terms as you and basically they already can't get enough of it..Basing how good a show is based on the attractiveness of the characters in it is just about the most simple minded analysis you could make..Oh and the leading girl will be gone in the next 3 or 4 episodes because she is replaced by an older version when the timeline jumps forward...Just as Game of Thrones before it new characters will be introduced so maybe you might actually find some attractive eventually lol...But if you didn't bother to stick around to watch it's not going to be a great loss really is it...Geez you're so incredibly empty and stupid...Lastly i'm not sure you have even watched the show because there has been more Dragon action in the 1st 3 episodes than there was in the whole of Game of Thrones up until season 5..
Have you gone back and watched GOT season 1? everything is cheaply done with green screen and design I agree with the rhaenera or whatever she's ugly but will only be around for another episode or so
@@orenthaljames2534 I rewatched GoT in preparation for HoD, yes you can tell what's done with green screen and such but it was good for it's time to the point that no one then complained about.
George RR Martin is executive producer, and one of the main showrunners/writers is a massive George RR Martin fan and has known him for a decade now. So he is very familiar with GRRM's work and very dedicated to sticking to his stuff. The probem with D&D also being that they did not know how to handle the fantasy aspect of the series, weren't as familiar with GRRM's work to begin with. The new writer/showrunner was also personally recommended and hired by George RR Martin himself so it's someone he really trusts. I so wish that when D&D tired out and no longer had the source material to work with that they had passed it on to someone like him, someone who is so familiar with GRRM's work that - although there is no more source material to work with - would know how to continue the style. A shame that pride got in the way for D&D.
It’s funny cause there actually is a difference in the shit they wear. This is a period of extravagance and pageantry, so mad bright colors in all the heraldry. In Game of Thrones everyone just wore black.
They could have definitely designed costumes that feel different than GoT, but I will say, for a good 600 years (476-1066) in Europe, fashion really did not change at all.
The thing about House of the Dragon, it’s not a made up story, it’s history, parts that have been mentioned in GOT. Their not recreating GOT, more so telling a new story in the GOT world. House of the Dragon is going to show one of the most intense time for the Targaryen’s. Not to mention their taking information from George RR Martins completed book.
All credit has to go the author, GRRM did a amazing job with this source material. So much so that even if you made lots of changes to it, its very very hard to drop the ball. Even the last seasons of GoT were relatively , if go back and rewatch them. Keep in mind they were essentially puting a bow on a series of books that weren’t technically finished.
Firstly being a prequel means they handicapped themselves in a lot of ways, they can't make suspens about the whiteWalkers and the wall and all the north magic ( I know it ended badly in the main show ) secondly and for me despite not reading the books I already know a lot about the lore of GOT that I know what will happen to a lot of key characters in this one.
It being anything else would have killed the show. This is based on a finished novel by GRRM. If they did anything else it would have to be written by random TV writers and then you get something like the later seasons of GoT. What happens later is irrelevant to the plot anyway, the white walkers have nothing to do with a succession war.

I think it would be closer to comparing 1500s to the 1400s. Assuming that clothing and style didn’t change as drastically as it does today. Similar to the advancement of technology in the last 100 years compared to the rest of history.
@@GGSportsPodcast Yeah, technically the universe is almost 'regressing' technologically.
Things are getting smaller, not larger, technology is lost over time, etc etc.

We've been wanting it. They canceled like 2 shows already...I can't remember the first one but the second was blood moon.
Whats crazy is that since HBO is owned by WB, they have the decades of amazing WB movies too like Harry Potter, Dark Knight, and hella great thrillers like Ex-Machina, Room, etc. All around great platform

Listen, by the first episode it was already better than all of Season 8 in every metric.
Now that we're 3 episodes in, they're fucking nailing it with the pacing and storytelling... I'm fucking hooked.
They picked the best actors! Paddy Considine (the current king) is a very underrated actor. He was in Hot Fuzz, The Worlds End, Peaky Blinders, Dead Mans Shoes, 24 Hour Party People, the Bourne movies, This Is England
I'm not a fan of the long night episode. It was waaay too dark. Maybe it wasn't his fault? But other than that, he's done amazing.
I thought it was going to be mediocre, but episode 2 gains some serious momentum and episode 3 hits solidly. That's probably due to the flash of time of 2-3 years between episode 2 and 3.
I love the show. It’s perfect. It’s like the fandom has been brought back to life.
Remember when Andrew talks about Cobra Kai then got a Netflix show? Hmm..
There is a dwarf in the book “mushroom”. I think they left him out do to not wanting to have people that didn’t read the book think they were just trying to duplicate GOT.
wouldn't he be a narrator who is occasionally seen on screen?
I hope they leave him out. His character wouldn't translate on screen
@@weidchar1646 that would have been the best way of there were going to add him. It would be hard to find another actor that could fill the shoes on screen.

Miguel Sapochnik is the showrunner, the guy who directed all the best episodes of Game of Thrones. Yep, including the Battle of the Bastards
Color shows a big difference in this offshoot of GoT--dress, people, backgrounds. GreyArea, Emergency Awesome, Nerd Soup, In Deep Geek, GameofThrones are all good for Fire and Blood info and breakdowns. Personal fave is GreyArea.

Actually there is a different fashion wise between house of the dragon and game of thrones there’s a lot more heraldry in house of the dragon. Even the fashion dress design wise is different . Nth is the same . Not even the maesters look the same.
Andrew is spot on. I’m waiting at 8:59 each Sunday night.
I THINK WHATS IMPRESSIVE IS HBO IS NOT EVEN AVALIBALE EVERYWHERE AND THE SHOW'S STILL GOING NUMBERS
Hardly surprising considering its available for 350mil+ people
The 2 on the end should be off camera again, leave it to Andrew and Akash guys!

House of Dragons/Game of Thrones is the potential Better Call Saul/Breaking Bad comparison.

Kit's spinoff will be special. I think he has a solid grasp on the material and will bring something unique, that the GOT writing clowns got wrong toward the end.

That's higher than the budget of GOT last season
Andrews assessment of TV shows is always off and Akash always never does his homework and has no input.
“Moore’s law” tech / chips get 2x better every two years by cost
Blackfyre Rebellion baby
Is that what the plan is? Like are they going beyond the dance of the dragons up to like summer hall?
Its not gonna rival GoT in the humour aspect from season 1-4 as I dont see any character making quirky little jokes here and there like tyrion and bronn did, but the whole political aspect, dialogue and cgi is what will make it special
Theres plenty of story if they actually cover it rather than skipping it. The war of the stepstones was a 9 year proxy war they concluded in 2 episodes.

House of the Dragon is goated
Episode 3 was absolute fire
HOTD is to GOT what Better Call Saul was to Breaking Bad
I read the book and the story is fantastic. It has a very tragic story and if they follow the book it will be better than the other show.
That’s not even remotely true. It had literally nothing to do with source material lmao.
How you dorks are so confident in your false opinions is beyond me 😂
Has there ever been a worse ending to a major series than the GOT ending
Daemon is amazing. He's the best character in the whole story
Yo I'm not gonna lie this show is so good it kinda makes me wanna shit all over the Lord of the rings show lol
Don't get attached to any character , this is the only lesson from GOTs.
not just house of the dragon actually doing well, but lotr also being decent so far. despite the absolutely ridiculous expectations for both
If you read Fire & Blood, you know whats coming.
But we won't have a show if that happened.
tell me you're ignorant without telling me you're ignorant
Why would she kill her father
@@leandergruber925 this mean a lot to you. doesn't it?!?!
@@bubba94290 dude is an idiot idk why he said this
About the fashion changes that you guys were talking about, it's the hair do with the women, in GOT Cercei would tell the redhead stark (can't remember her name) that the hairdo in the north is not the fashion trend

Actually loving hearing Andrew nerd on some GoT
Have you gone back and watched GOT season 1? everything is cheaply done with green screen and design

Oh shiz! Is the thrones after discussing pod back?! I think that’s where I started listening to you guys.
They could have definitely designed costumes that feel different than GoT, but I will say, for a good 600 years (476-1066) in Europe, fashion really did not change at all.
Why Alex uses sunglasses indoors? I never understood why Americans do that.😂😂
it won’t be bigger but i believe this is the start of something truly great to come
The thing about House of the Dragon, it’s not a made up story, it’s history, parts that have been mentioned in GOT. Their not recreating GOT, more so telling a new story in the GOT world. House of the Dragon is going to show one of the most intense time for the Targaryen’s. Not to mention their taking information from George RR Martins completed book.
Daemon is that guy
As far as the fashion thing goes, it is actually different. Its a subtle difference but its there
I had SUCH low expectations....the show is straight fire.
I’m glad akaash is back my boi been looking rough last couple episodes.
It is as good as a prequel than what better call saul was for breaking bad, which is an insane accomplishment.
It looks so much better because it debuted in 4K.
No season of GOT was ever available in 4K when it originally aired.
It's about a particular part in history. It doesn't lead up to GOT it'll stop long before Roberts Rebellion
It being anything else would have killed the show. This is based on a finished novel by GRRM. If they did anything else it would have to be written by random TV writers and then you get something like the later seasons of GoT. What happens later is irrelevant to the plot anyway, the white walkers have nothing to do with a succession war.
