    • @MrTieDye
      @MrTieDye  5 месяцев назад

      Yes it does... I know many people who have stress, anxiety or depression and then they start some form of art, it does not have to be tie-dye, but it can be .... my goal has been to make this art open to all who want to try it by giving out the basic and more advanced info on how I work with various tolls, chemicals and folds and ties ... if you are just starting out, here is some more info that may be of help, especially the Beginner Playlist :
      Hello and Welcome to the Wonderful World of Tie-Dye ....
      I use Procion Dyes I pre wash and pre soak the cotton tees in a Soda Ash solution, this raises the pH level of the cotton which activates the Procion Dyes (sources listed below) and causes a chemical bond to form between the cotton fibers and the Procion Dyes. (Procion Dyes work on other natural fibers as well like : Bamboo, Hemp, Linen, Rayon, and even silk, but I use a slightly different process for silk)
      I have a ton of videos that are sorted into many different playlists so be sure to explore …

      I have put a bunch of videos into one Playlist to help get you started with an overview of Tie-Dye, and then how to mix the Dyes, mix or make Soda Ash, Batch the tees (let the dyes set up so the bonding can happen), and the Rinse/Wash Out Process...
      Also, I have many videos on the basic folds and various ways of dyeing the cotton tees or tapestries ... Have fun exploring and I wish you success on your Tie-Dye Journey, Oh and I recommend taking photos of your work so you can look back and see how far you have come as this is an art that you will need to practice, but it pays off with getting better each time you do it .....
      This art can be quite addictive, you have been warned lol 😉

      Here is a list with some more folds to try out :

      Plus, there are many other tie-dye artists who share their techniques so others can learn, here is a list I have compiled that were mentioned in the tie-dye pages : ruclips.net/user/MrTieDyechannels

    • @MrTieDye
      @MrTieDye  Год назад +1

      @Tom ... I am glad to be of help to you ... as for batch times and heat... yes heat does speed up the batch time of the Procion Dyes, I still like to leave mine for 48 hours... BUT, I have seen many people reference this chart on FB when talking about batch times for dyes : facebook.com/photo/?fbid=2806295286181484&set=gm.762371098218754&idorvanity=449743522814848

    • @MrTieDye
      @MrTieDye  29 дней назад

      Thank you and you are welcome ... as for the black lines... when I twist my spiral, I lay the front side of the tee shirt face down ... then when I add black to my spiral, I add it to the front of the tee, the side the was face down... the creases are nice and flat since they were against the table, so the black lines come out looking nicer and less splotchy ... ✌️

    I just got through watching one of your old videos for mixing the dyes but nothing mentioned on how long the dyes can be stored for after mixing… ??????? Also how long can the Soda Ash mixture be stored for after mixing?

    • @MrTieDye
      @MrTieDye  Год назад

      Yeah I need to make some up dated videos for the dye mixing ... after mixing them with water, I have had them around for 2-3 weeks at room temp (65-70F here in Oregon) and still had decent colors from them ... BUT< if you store them in a mini fridge, they last even longer... I have used some that were mixed 2-3 months ago and still gave decent colors
      IMO, the dye go bad slowly, meaning over time they just produce lighter shades of color ... so you can keep on using them, just know that the shade will be duller over time ... but one thing I do if I have a lot of dyes left over is Re-Fresh them by adding another scoop of dye and blending them again... I do this once as you can only mix so much powder into liquid before it becomes sludge ..... anyways, sometimes I will have just a couple colors that are 'old' and I will use them in conjunction with brighter colors (freshly mixed) as I like the contrast between bright colors and muted colors ... so lots of options with Procion Dyes
      BUT, those store bought 'One Step Kits' those have soda sh mixed in with the dyes, so as soon as you add water the dyes are active and should be used soon for best color results... when using them, I recommend getting all of your tees tied up BEFORE mixing the dye
      as for Soda Ash ... it does not seem to go bad... I just keep using it and when it gets low, I just make more and add it in with the rest
      and just one more thing in case you did not see the full list, here is my Beginner's Playlist : ruclips.net/p/PLMEtBqB2BzuquDrHsqxbv8LdFkaIyy3wo
      I hope this helps... have fun along your journey and ask more questions if you need help ✌🏻💚🙏🥳🌈🌀

      I buy my 100% cotton tees wholesale from sanmar.com ... I just used my Business Name Registry to sign up with them ... here are a couple other places where you can buy tee without signing up : jiffyshirts.com & alphabroder.com
      as for material ... with Procion Dyes, Natural fibers are what work ... Cotton, Bamboo, Hemp, Linen and Rayon (Rayon is more delicate when wet, so take care in handing and tying it, and then I wash mine in a net bag on gentle cycle) all work great with these dyes ... even Silk will work, but it is a slightly different process... I hope to get to a video for silk soon
      And yes, you can dye lighter fabrics... many times I have started with lite blue, tan, pink, or grey ... sometimes they may affect the shade slightly.... like if you dye a lite blue tee and use yellow, it will look yellow, but may have a slight green cast to it

    So I just started tie dyeing, and plan to start doing it seriously both to earn a little money, and as a means of helping to treat mental illness. I've been unable to work for several years due to extreme depression and anxiety, and those conditions basically destroyed my passion for art...until I decided to try some tie dyeing just for fun. Now my passion has returned, and this is a perfect means of stress reduction and earning a little money. I'm finding part of it pretty frustrating, tho, and that's the whole folding process. Anything beyond a simple, straight fan-fold or simple scrunch is proving so difficult that I usually just give up and do an easier design instead. I'm just wondering if there are any tips or tricks to make the process easier. I know it'll take time to develop any real skill...but I can't even do a basic spiral yet. Halfway through the process, it all just falls apart. Any advice??

    • @MrTieDye
      @MrTieDye  Год назад +1

      I am glad you found your way to my channel... I love to help people get into this art and have fun and success with it.
      as for the spiral... it does take some practice to perfect it, but to start with, they way I tie mine is by pinching it with my fingers and twisting a couple times to get it started... then I hold the center and 'wrap' the rest of the tee around it... I pull out on the edges a bit to create the pleats that then get wrapped around the center point of the tee ... here is my Spiral playlist to also show many ways of dyeing the spiral once you get it tied... I try to get mine nice and tight as I wrap it up :
      ruclips.net/p/PLMEtBqB2BzurqzK0qzcIFldZEycD5ykyZ
      and I have done the Scrunch and Spider design in the Mystical Magical Series : ruclips.net/p/PLMEtBqB2BzupFrPUZZWKvIQc_A28Af0Bt
      Also, anytime someone says they are new to tie-dye, I put up my Beginner's Playlist as it has lots of helpful tips and tricks in it : ruclips.net/p/PLMEtBqB2BzuquDrHsqxbv8LdFkaIyy3wo
      I hope this helps... if you have more questions, please start a new one rather than reply to this one as the replies do not show up n the same way for me ... also, I am on FB and IG so if you have one of those accounts, you can tag me in a photo to show me the issues you are having ✌🏻💚🙏🥳🌈
