- Michelle Anderson, founder of Clarinet Mentors (www.learnclarinetnow.com), presents two great exercises that you can do to improve your clarinet playing when you don't have your clarinet with you. One will improve clarinet embouchure and voicing, and the other will improve air support and tone.
I've played tuba for almost 40 years and now I am going to learn clarinet. these exercises sound great, can't wait to use them, the breathing is almost the same- lots of controlled air flow.
I’m playing clarinet after 45 years! Great help! Thank you!
Excellent explanation. I’m 62 and playing clarinet again! Thanks soooo much!!!!
Thanks Michelle for your lesson!
hi Ms. Anderson, may i call you Mrs. Anderson? i am new to clarinet. in my Middle Ages (47). but i play Irish tin Whistle and recorder, but i recently switched to clarinet, My Teacher is Mr. Richard Border, not sure you ever heard of him, he recommended you to me... and i also enjoy your teaching i believe i found your group a while ago, i have a hard time keeping my embouchure face after playing a few scales, plus remembering to keep my holes closed at the same time
Do u suggest blowing without a reed for exercise too? I have a family that doesn’t need the noise currently; as we have a small home! Haha! I practice more when they are gone!
She did a good vid on the "whisper technic." Search this channel for those words and choose the first that comes up.
great tips! definitely gonna try these
Good exercise. I teach French and use the eeeeee/ou exercise to teach the French "u" sound. This works.
Yes - my first clarinet teacher used the French sounds as a model for playing clarinet.
you should post a tutorial on flight of the bumblebee! ive been trying to learn it on clarinet forever!
Great exercises and easy drills.Thanks.
Great ! Love it ! Will try everyday ! Thanks !
Hi Michelle,
Just not sure on push the ab muscles "out" as you blow . The practice without the clarinet. Even in the car situation, wouldn't you want to practice taking a deep breath pushing your ab muscles out sitting straight and then do the short bursts of air sitting straight again pushing your ab muscles in?
Great video btw
Jack Luster saem soube here
I thought you were gonna teach me how to sound like a clarinet with your voice, like the mouth trumpet trick but with a clarinet sound instead! XD
ok i didnt have a reed
Dear Michelle, I am trying to play the clarinet (high notes) and I'm trying not to squeak when I tounge. any advice? pleas read this. thanks
+Isai Castro Usually if you squeak when you tongue high notes, but not while slurring, it can be caused by "biting" a bit on the reed. These two videos may help: ruclips.net/video/a2TUGyTslUM/видео.html - Embouchure Tester and ruclips.net/video/26VnRcLNRSI/видео.html.
Thank you so much! :)
Hi Michelle! I'm not sure if this is the best place to ask but I need some advice. I played clarinet for 3 years in highschool and I haven't played in a year. I would like to purchase a new clarinet of the advanced level because I've heard that if you're going to play long term it's better to just go big. My budget is very small as I'm a student though so if I have to get an intermediate level that's fine. I'm willing to spend no more than 1500 for the clarinet alone (excluding the ligature etc). What would you recommend? I love deep rich tones and my main focus is functionality (not sure if that helps). Any brands or specific models you could recommend?
Hi - Sometimes you can find a good used pro clarinet in that range, although you want to ensure that it does not need much in the way of repairs. A good dealer or repair person in your area might have some leads for you. Some good intermediate level clarinets (that sound great, especially if you put a professional mouthpiece on them) would include the Backun/Bliss clarinets. You can see some of these at: www.kesslermusic.com/html/clarinet/clarinets.htm. I hope that helps!
