    Russell T Davies stating that Doctor Who was born out of focus groups is absolutely true, The BBC were locked in a ratings battle with ITV on Saturday nights and needed a show that would appeal to three different audiences: The Adult Sports fan audience of Granstand, The Teenage audience of Jukebox Jury and the child audience that had already been accustomed to the timeslot. These documents can easily be found online and Andrew Pixley's article of Sydney Newman in Doctor Who Magazine issue 466 is well worth a read too.

    I LOVE how Davies is bullshit-free. Moffat seems to always dance around with magical excuses, and while that's dandy, I'll always miss Davies' absolute solid, real charm.

      Sort of. I feel like RTD saying Eccleston ALWAYS planned to do one season is a bit of bullshit tbh. Especially considering how quickly he changes the subject

    Russell T Davies knew how to reach out to the casual masses and got demographics less likely to watch sci-fi watching doctor who.

    Steve Moffat is the new "main" writer now. He invented the Angels, and he is great at the mystery combined with the bombast on the new series. Yes Russel was good, but so is Steve.

    3. Children Of Earth is the only thing Torchwood did that is would be truly proud of (I think)
    4. I'm sorry what?
    5. The River=Melody was a bit predicatable, but the connection between "River Song", "Melody Pond", The Gamma Forest, and the "The only water in the forest is the river" was quite ingenious.
    6. "The Impossible Astronaut"-Most recorded TV show of all time. Booya. Also it's summer and boiling some days. Fans would be outside rather than watching TV all day.

    in my opinion, i prefered RTD as a head writer but stephen moffat as an episode writer. i also miss the episodes where they go back to earth. they were some of my favourites. apart from 11th hour where he picked up amy in the first place and some small parts of other episodes, there has been no full episode set on present day earth in this world and not on a parallel time stream.

    RTD because of episidoes like Doomsday and how we writes Torchwood. Also the fact that he brought it back because without the new Doctor Who, my life would suck.

    @Jami393 That would be great, since I just watched both those episodes, and in Father's Day the monsters appear because Rose causes someone to be alive that wasn't supposed to be. When Rose touches baby Rose a paradox is created, letting the monster into the church. This would have no real implications in A Chirstmas Carol because they are relatively safe from creatures who can abuse time and thus a paradox, although created, would not do much.

  • @Jami393
    @Jami393 13 лет назад

    @hobsquabble Yeah but that's where Moffat got it wrong. When the Doctor brought young Scrouge to the future which he shouldn't have done, you could see in the background that Scrouge touched him and later on I think he was carrying him. So there for it should of been some sort of paradox.

  • @hobsquabble
    @hobsquabble 13 лет назад

    @Jami393 If you would tell me the mess ups and which episodes, I'd gladly agree, but still say that it doesn't detract from his appeal to me as a writer/showrunner. Without any evidence all I can say is: He isn't the only writer, Dr Who hasn't got the best record for continuity in the world of plots and "it's more like a big ball of wibbly-wobbly...timey-wimey...stuff." Yes, I know I've just quoted a Moffat episode...

  • @dylanthrillmour866

    I view Doctor Who like comic books, like a writer has a run on a title and even though it’s all technically still part of the same story, that specific run is like a separate entity. The Davies year are where DW begins and ends for me. The golden years. Moffat was hard to enjoy.

    @danny11712EXTRA its the ingrediant that is unanswerable, ive been searching for it since episode 1 of season 5. i thought, perhaps its cos they barely ever leave leadworth or the world. then thought maybe its cos matt smith has a quiet, false voice. then i pondered on the idea that it could be missing that romance between the doctor and his companion which we descreetly miss. perhaps its the way there isn't alot of scene changes. no one knows the answer and probably never will.

  • @SupaDupaFreak100

    @AceRockGod what the hell are you talking about? the doctor managed to figure out that amy might be a flesh clone after day of the moon with the tardis scan, and the he flew through that solar tsunami in the rebel flesh on purpose to go that planet and find out if he was right, which he was. he knows what he's doing, he just looks a bit dim sometimes. p.s. imo smith's doctor is convincingly alien; tennant acted a little too human at times, and he was too over the top at the end tbh.

  • @Jami393

    @DuggabbooDC The Doctor said it back in Series 1 on the episode Father's Day, because he tries and stops Rose from touching Baby Rose.

      Because the pressure was basically killing him. He was running three different shows at the same time (Doctor Who, Torchwood and The Adventure of Sarah Jane Smith) and had to write so Many scripts, and the stress was basically a ticking bomb to him. He stepped down when he could before was too late.

    @hobsquabble Do the whole thing from Father's Day in Series 1, you you touch your past self you can create some sort of time paradox, well that Scrouge guy from Moffat's First Christmas special was touching his younger self and yet no time paradox. When I think of some more I'll let you know.

    1. I think what he has done for the show is brilliant, but what Steven turned the show into (a fairytale rather than a pseudo-science fest" is much better. The Big Bang>Journey's End
    2. Major story line? He had a couple of red herrings in a few episodes and then BAM it was a big two part finale. Steven (with the crack arc) had it continuing as quite a big plot point in most episodes, then it all came full circle.

  • @hobsquabble
    @hobsquabble 13 лет назад +1

    @Jami393 I think you take Dr Who a bit too serously. One can just as validly that the Doctor knows what he is doing and thus, knowing a paradox is going to be created in the Christmas Carol, he knows that it is not so dangerous and thus is worth saving 4003 people. You can continue to see it as a mess up, or see it as a show where no exact rules apply. Up to you. Both are realistic, just so long as you love the Doctor.

    Dear haters, if you don't like RTD, then go and watch Moff interviews. No one forces you to watch this. I thought DW fans are too intelligent to hate over someone, who actually bring the show back, made it a success to go on for 5 years and made possible for Moff to take over, but it seems I was mistaken. How silly of me. :(

'Coz I just want to hear all the reasons people can think of to say that a man who can pull the most stupid arbitrary plot developments out his ass is better than a man who can bring a whole series full circle and show how a programme that is all about sci-fi is really, in retrospect, one big fairytale. So please, go on.
