As soon as we finished this job, Jem and Jenny informed the landlord of the poor condition of this manhole and we believe he has undertaken the works ☺
Hallo aus Deutschland! Schaue jede eurer Videos! Macht weiter so👍 Eure plunscher sind das eigenbauten oder gibt es so was in eurer Umgebung zu kaufen????
Yeah, you could dump your Mother in Law down that one!! Great video, Jem with his "Foreman Hard Hat" and Andy, whistling thru the gagging, perfect way to finish my Friday! Thanks Gentlemen for the laughs, as usual, perfect!! And thank you Jenny, for the subtitles, lol!! 😄👀🏳️🌈
Careful Andy! Now Jem has a hard hat he's only one step away from getting a clip board and following you around doing efficiency studies and reports! 🤣
It's interesting how many U.K. sewer systems (drop pipes, soil pipes, gully's) are located outside the house or on the outside of the house. Everything over here in Canada is buried underground with very few access points. All drop/soil pipes are inside the house inside a "wet wall" and connect directly into the mains. If it wasn't like that here all the sewer pipes would freeze in the winter when it regularly hits -10 to -30 celcius.
It’s usually because our sewer system is older than the houses attached to them. Because of their age, our sewers need more maintenance than most, so it’s easier to have access outside the houses so we aren’t having to remove walls to fix problems. Canadian houses, newer builds, newer sewer systems, less likelihood of problems.
@@realburglazofficial2613 It's as you said, the Georgian/Victorian era houses were built before toilets were common, but the pipes being on the outside of the building is because of cost, not because of ease of access. To properly internally plumb one of those houses, you'd have to tear out large sections of walls, floors and ceilings to get access to the sub floors and wall space. Then there's the additional risk of having to modify the structure of the house if beams block pipe paths, such construction can quickly run into the tens of thousands of dollars. Drilling a hole in the side of the house and running pipe externally is far cheaper and less invasive when retrofitting an existing building.
@@GGigabiteM also, Victorian era houses had flushing toilets on the outside, usually at the bottom of the yard. So a lot of the manholes are probably the original site of the toilet. Newer built houses have ‘built for purpose’ complete sewer systems, whereas in a lot of cities in the UK there are many different sewer systems from different decades tacked on to each other.
The green tree at 2:40 is a Myrtlewood. It's a member of the Laurel family, but VERY RARE to be growing in the UK. That has to be VERY WET soil. They grow on the banks of the Rogue River in Oregon USA natively. People try to get them to grow everywhere because the leaves smell of mixed sweet spices. My channel has several videos documenting that tree. It's a VERY expensive tree when it gets to merchantable size. I mean BIG money. Our state even has special rules for harvesting it because it's an amazing watershed tree then helps to clean and purify water.
This sewage pit is something straight out of Tom and Jerry. I'm shocked that something like this passed inspection, assuming an inspection was indeed conducted. Fine work as always, fellas.
Hiya Jem Hiya Andy, l just want to say that l love it when you are both working on a job together. So much fun and laughter..Keep up the Brilliant work..You do bring a smile to our faces..And thank you for sharing your working day with us all. Say hi to Jenny doing all the editing.
What a messy, rainy day for JEM & ANDY! ☔ I have never seen a manhole that deep 🔴🚸 You guys always have the best attitude and of course, you unblocked the pipes! Bravo! Now, go eat a hot meal.😀 Go JEM GO, don't forget to bend your knees! I
Hope you guys take good care of yourselves: you are some of Liverpool's finest, and therefore are most important... I could not go down that manhole for love nor money. Great work boys.
I would go for three faults with it, no rungs inside so anyone falling in can't climb out, the lid is too lightweight for an area with vehicle traffic and the lid isn't secure enough that casual fiddling can expose a deep pit. Maybe I'm missing a requirement for deep drain markings on the lid or outside the drain as well.
Couldnt believe there were no rungs in that man hole and that lid was like a biscuit tin lid lol..very dangerous all of it..great vid tho you guys are great entertainment :)
My pet conure heard you whistling and now won’t stop. Months of trying to teach her to say anything at all I watch a plumbing video and she won’t shut up ! Gee thanks guys roflmao ! Love your videos always .
The fact that there're no rungs built in the wall of this manhole is very concerning. Unless it's too small, then it either should've been built bigger or not at all.
@@issadraco532 Hey, you saying " very very young child or a really old person"' don't matter and are not worthy of protection from hazards like that? Very inadequate cover for a start... a car wheel over it and it cracks. Next someone falls in. Fall down that and you would break 2 legs... and so your escape plan fails.
@@issadraco532 Firstly the cover was very close to giving way due to corrosion. Second it was a very lightweight cover which if disturbed by a wheel could have partly collapesd. Thirdly I doubt if you would go to such crazy lengths to be try and be right about something if a child of yours had lifted the lid out of curiosity and fallen in. I also doubt that you would be so clever if you were the owner of such a cover when a child or anyone had slashed their ankle in the dark on your badly maintained cover that had not needed to be replaced because you are NEVER wrong about anything.
One of my friends had a cold like yours and it took him nearly 3 weeks to get rid of it, it didn’t help that he had tuberculosis when he was a kid. Hope you feel better soon
Nice work. That's mad how deep that drain is, as well as how flimsy, and easily movable the lid is. Might have to start paying more attention, to where I'm putting my feet. Little tip: if you can, put your waterproof trousers, over the top of your wellies. I find the rain runs inside your boots otherwise.
Is that liquid sunshine I see falling from the sky Jem? lol Good content guys. 43F and rainy in Ohio, USA too. Winter is coming. I will need a strong, high gravity ale to combat it, like a Fuller's, Sam Smiths, or Moor Imperial Entanglement. lol
Is it so deep because all those houses look like they'v got basements ???? Although it looks in very good condition as the houses are old ??? Thanks guys great job 😄 love the banter xx
It’s certainly a lot newer than the houses. The houses look Victorian and drain shafts built at that time would have been brick lined ,not concrete lined.
Which van are you going to equip with a hoist to remove friends (or their clients) that have fallen down that inverted tower? No way out, fragile cover and a rusty overgrown staple instead of a proper frame at the top! My Safety Elf was having a field day! (And I only know what Mersey Rod have shown me!) Incidentally, thank you all for your banter and good humour. It makes watching and listening a joy!
Andy you better listen to Gem!! He is much wiser than you can even imagine!! Gem! Saves the day with the BIG Plunger!! Sometimes bigger is better!! Stay safe my friends.🤓👍🤓👍Randy.

16:10 New brush might be in order :D 25:30 Dont want to sound horrible here but its probrably better unblocking drains in the rain when theres plenty of water moving. Also helps with the clean up aswell, gives the area an extra rinse.
What you guys need there is a freaking water hose that has pressure on it here at my house in kentucky we have 50 psi on the water lines so if you need to wash something you can and we all have pressure washers with 6000 psi on them to clean the cars and the house
Andy is not useless ! He just requires a bit more training like the rest of us. The bride is still training me after 48 years, she says I'm halfway through ?✌❤ Bob
I have tied my pool waste into my sanitary sewer so I can give that line a good flushing every once in a while... during winter months I just fill all my sinks and tub and let them drain all at once.
mind you you never trust step irons you would need a man riding whinch plus full ap2 entry kit if you needed to enter that chamber anyway the worse part is no support of the frame and cover
@@highpath4776 yeah i come across them daily but in this instance the top biscuit isnt correct meaning the frame itself is very poorly supported dont matter how strong the cover is if the support isnt there the whole thing gives way
A drain that deep would be a larger diameter with metal rungs built in, then a precast concrete reducer/slab to bed the lid onto preferably cast iron. I find galvanised lids with plastic frames don't bond well with cement.

Same in the Netherlands; all these outside pipes would be unthinkable, only rainwater drainage goes on the outside.
