    We moved here from NJ in 2020 but red tide and mold (it’s in every house in FL) are making us reevaluate.

    • @feetincheseighths
      @feetincheseighths Год назад

      The mold issue is only common to older places and to those not running air conditioning. Renovations of Baths and kitchens are generally needed after 15-20 years. replacing carpet every 7-10 and many remove carpeting all together. Our solution is keeping the carpet in bedrooms while having tile throughout the house. and no pets if you value health and cleanliness. Replacing carpet is not expensive or doesn't have to be. Keeping a clean A/C system is also a long term goal keeping the coils clean and the fan blades clean move air much more efficiently and saves money on cooling cost. If you think living here is cheap guess again. I m a Florida native and now retired but its a lot of work keeping a home in Florida. If your stuck as a renter its a whole other problem. Landlords like not to recognize a moldy bathroom opting for paint and calk rather than a remodel

    Skyrocketing cost of insurance - property and auto - unfortunately nullifies the benefit of not having to pay state income tax.

    Native Floridian here almost 70 yrs. Starting to look at other states to relocate. Cost of living has become a problem along with political climate . Way too divisive. Not the Florida I grew up in.

    Jill you covered the top reasons that people move to and from Florida...and thank-you. Now i moved to Florida first time in January of 1973..and to the Pompano Bch area...what a paradise. Left in 1975 to work on the Alaskan pipeline. Came back to Florida in 1988 with my wife who graduated from Pompano Bch H.S. in 1971. In 1988 the area had changed and so had we..traffic and rudeness big factors.. of course the rudeness was at home and the marriage didn't last..thought of retiring to Florida did cross my mind..WOW! Gone are the 2-1 CBS homes for 60,000 dollars.. then checked home insurance issues...another wow! Will stay in Michigan...and make a visit in the dead of winter..

    One reason people moved out of Fl is the humid rainny days and the swarm of bugs in the summer. I used to have a bug screen for my car in the summer but it is out of fashion now.

    Yes, people are rude in MA at the store. They bring entire families, park their cart in the middle of the lane, walk in front of you when you are clearly looking at an item, and block the lane talking or whatever.

    Semi retired now at 57. Spent my life working for the sub standard wages offered in FL and my thanks for it is for them to start trying to price me out of the state. I am fortunate enough to own a small condo. According to Zillow I could sell it and buy the home I grew up in up north and have money left over. I still work part time jobs mostly to keep me active. Saddest part is the part time jobs I could get in small town Ohio pay the same if not more than they do in Sarasota and the cost of liveing is way lower and its not as hot as the devils underwear 7 months a year. Unless there are some major corrections for FL in the way of wages as they relate to cost of liveing I think there are some dark days ahead for the "sun coast"

      Im a Florida native and never made a lot of money but do own a small house. In retirement this small house is still affordable being paid for. People moving here need to get realistic about where they are looking to buy. there are many very nice older communities where buying and insuring is not the nightmare everyone reports it to be. For those moving here with corporate CEO retirement plans keep bitching about the cost to insure your place on siesta key i don't mind.

    BUG CONTROL! I freak every time I see a cockroach. And ants. They are maddening. Fruit flies, I never had a fruit fly problem in Maine. Not being able to swim in lakes..it could kill you! There are springs and rivers as long as the no swimming signs aren't up due to heavy rains and sewer runoff. Insane drivers. I think its much worse here than in Maine. And thats going some!

    Jill you did an amazing job. Each reason indicated, I have considered on my own. I left FL after graduating from college. I was recently there again in October of ‘22. I spent most of my time in Sarasota, Tampa and St Pete. I attended college in Tallahassee, a different part of the state altogether. While visiting the three locales mentioned, I fell in love w/Sarasota and St Pete: more so St Pete. I live in the northern Midwest: winters are brutal but I love the seasonal changes. I left Florida this time thinking heavily about returning and living in St Pete. Of all the reasons you’ve mentioned, only one has caused me to reconsider a return to the state: politics. I could live their if both parties could co-exist and work together to serve the citizens of that beautiful state. However, Florida politics is so deeply polarized that the thought of returning no longer is one for me. It’s sad too, because it’s a wonderful state and my collegiate years there were beautiful-but again, the politics then isn’t what it’s now become. Best to you in your work and again, the video is well presented and isn’t slanted at all. 👌🏽🙏🏽

      Its not the cost of liveing but the cost of liveing as it relates to wages. Its a safe bet that 50 percent of the jobs in FL no longer pay enough for people to live within a reasonable driving distance to the job. Wages have always been low in Florida but now its quite literally 50 percent non liveing wages. Its not sustainable.

      @martinmurphy4852 living in NJ small-town foe 56 years. Found Indian rocks beach yrs ago! Indian rocks beach is beautiful and the demographics are perfect along with all walkable or bike ride everywhere. How can people from FL bag on Indian rocks beach? Was there spring / summer and the climate was perfect! Small town with a beach and lagoon properties! Just like NJ but way cheaper then any NJ beach town and usable all yr round.
