Really wonderful essay, my only note is too much bus
Dude, this is probably oversaid already, but your videos are PHENOMENAL. I don't even know or care about Speed, but I trust your abilities as a content creator enough that I'm watching this. I'd like you to know that says A LOT as I have the attention span worse than a goldfish. Thank you for your hard work!
I'm baffled that the youtube algorithm hasn't made more of your videos blow up. They're always so consistently entertaining and thought provoking.
Best film essays ever. Honestly, the analysis and humour are unmatched
I watched "Speed" just once in cinema, when it came out. And now, thanks to you, I have to rewatch. I have to. Now!
“It’s not repetition. It’s rhyme.”
Brilliant explanation.
I guess it went from one bus and multiple villains to one villain and multiple vehicles!
The best praise I can give to this video. Now I really want to watch "Speed"
I have never seen speed or had any interest in seeing speed, but you've taken this topic I've never once cared about and turned it into one of the most interesting film analysis I've ever seen. this video deserves a million views
Speed is one of my favorite movies. It is literally the only one that kept me glued to the screen and on the edge of my seat. As far as I’m concerned it is a consummately written story, with excellent actors and perfect action. It’s pace was flawless. And, my introduction to Keanu Reeves!
To date Speed is my favorite action movie
Your videos are EXCELLENT!!! I regularly rewatch your Devil Wears Prada video, so seeing this video pop up in my sub box was such a delight! I gained so much appreciation of this movie from your video, it was illuminating to see how the creators had to grapple and struggle with the studios’ demands but still manage to come out with an even better movie than what they started with! I now embrace Speed more than as just a fun action flick, but also as a great inspiration for creators to embrace and adept to challenges. Great video, I’m definitely looking forward to more!
CRIMINALLY underrated
I love how you break down the impact of scenes on the whole story. How do you not have a million subscribers already?
I haven't seen Speed since I was a kid and almost skipped this video but I'm so glad I didn't! What a great breakdown of a scene. I'm going to have to give the movie another go.
what an underrated video! very well put
I absolutely loved watching this movie. I was in my Keanu Reeves phase, and love Sandra Bullock.
It was quite entertaining and I'd probably watch it again.
I forgot about the elevator bit, but after you mention it, it was in fact weird. It was weird watching it. Wait, why are we in an elevator? Are we going to chase the guy while in a bus? It's very strange to watch, but it creates fascinating pacing, and I quite appreciate it's existence. And here's the thing, like you said, it's entertaining, so you don't care that we're not on the bus.
“Too much bus” is on the same vein as IGN going “Too much water.”
I rarely hit the like button on RUclips.
Your outro deserved it. Bravo sir, that was the perfect end to a great essay.
What I'm hearing is that Speed is a sequel to itself
RUclips algorithm sucks, I was missing your videos and decided to check on your page for new ones to realize I had 3 more to watch.
Randomly coming across this video and discovering this channel has made my day!
This is an amazing series. Do more! I could honestly hear you talk about the most interesting scene in any movie.
Now I wanna rewatch speed
This is an incredible essay.
Nice, a new video! Can't wait to watch! ^.^
You made me want to watch the movie. Great video!
Great job Jim!
how awesome is it that i've been binging your videos and just finished watching carol because of your video about it, and now i see you've uploaded something new recently!! will leave a more insightful comment later, but for now i just wanted to say i love your videos!! :)
Damn, this is excellent.
Fantastic analysis
Thanks for including a clip from Father Ted in this :D :D :D :D :D

edit1: your bus related puns do not go unnoticed, haha
edit2: almost done with the video! this was a pretty interesting topic, actually, especially on the many revisions this sequence has undergone and how they actually ditched the more complex "bait and switch" villain for a more straightforward, but also more effective villain. goes to show that maybe the simplest solution IS the best way to go...then again, with how intricate the parallels were between the elevator and the bus, it's anything but simple
just found your channel and wow this is really insightful stuff, captivating too.
I'm so glad I found your channel!
I’m actually going to watch Speed now 😂
I love Speed. Gonna watch if again now :)
Great discussion
I don't think it would have worked as well being all on the bus --- definitely 'too much bus' in the first draft lol
But what do I know, look at that train movie that just came out, all train (bullet train)
Who is the writer talked about @19:31? I feel like a dumb for not knowing, but I can't place him for the life of me🤦♀️🤷♀️
Looks like Joss Whedon.
Speed...because car chases are overrated
