As a hateful ambitious monk always with hungry eyes aimed at taking the top rank in Ballista, Sarutabaruta. . .was a very dangerous place to stay in for too long. Those kind, gentle, unassuming fields could relieve a wary, tired, vexed soul of their burdens, if just for an afternoon. One didn’t have to go too fast there. It’s was okay to simply be a nobody, taking a very unimportant stroll on a grassy path that lead to no where. It was ok to exhale, acknowledge one’s stupidity, and humbly confront the fact that the world was so much bigger than the laughable summit of their endeavors. . .amongst the crawlers and slow flying bees who simply didn’t care. Sarutabaruta was an endless summer afternoon against a tree, watching things go by slowly at their own pace while sipping an ice cubed glass of something unbearably refreshing, cool and sweet, thankful that the journey, in spite of its burdensome toll, hadn’t buckled the weary shoulders too much. That amidst the endless trials to contend with, for juuuuust a little while, their weights had to give way to a very kind rest. No. One who knows better does not stay in Sarutabaruta for too long, but soon continues on their way, refreshed, but with the knowledge that dwelling in such a kind place can strip away the soul, very very kindly, executing the desire to ever again asking for it back.
Other than the often prolonged Party invites, this is the most adventure and immersive play I've had. Xi, the only true FF MMO. I shall return to complete the clever storyline at some point. Vana'diel be home.
My first party was in this zone, with a THF named Anara. I remember which Mithra face they had, which armor set, which sword. I remember discovering how bad of an idea it was to party as a level 7 BLM and THF. My second party was in Horutoto ruins. I told them "tend to take aggro and die a lot." The WAR then said "don't worry, i have Provoke", and I was touched. In retrospect, it was a very cutesy naive interaction.
Must admit my fav is North Gustaberg. But this music is awesome too. Ive left part of my soul in this game 20years ago, and I cant find it back 🥺 (ps : et oui, vive bahamut, et pourquoi je n'arrive pas à oublier ce jeu ? 🥺)
Sadly, SE seem more interested in developing new sequels and remakes that keep failing to meet their expectations than doing anything with one of the few good FF games to come out post-2000.

Started back in 2018, haven't played in a few years. This music has been stuck in my head ever since
Vana Diel forever!
Windurst forever! Phoenix server player. The best FF game of all time.
Ma musique préféré de tout FFXI :)

the memories… me a smol taru taru white mage hunting after crawlers and trying so spawn Soiny Spipi ❤❤❤
IIRC, there's a NM in this approximate area who drops a black mage wand.
Nunyenunc sir. 2 mPH wand which will last you til 51 for the Dark/Pluto's Staff. Also great for WHM, RDM, SMN back then... God I missed this game.
Wow Spira, this takes me back
I promise this game will be packed with people if they update the oldest 75 cap to engine5.

The greatest place that never was
Perfectly said. The emotion this song and place evoke is always surprising to me.
Spiny Spipi (found it!)
過去世界だと、西サルタバルタ〔S〕に飛ばしてもらったとこら辺ですね
☺
FFXI>FFXIV.
If only they brought it back to console
