    I don’t think that's Bertie. The way he touches his face looks like he's about to rip it off. That's clearly Sammy Paul in a mask.

    I really love listening to people talk about their favourite films. I love the passion in their voice and animation in their faces. I'd also love to hear people talk about their favourite songs, if you'd maybe consider doing that with some people? (Dodie, Dan, Jack etc?)

    Best one of these yet, really got Bertie's passion and investment in the film, think it definitely helps to ask what someone's favourite film is beyond the film itself.
    I was also thrown by the ending seeming almost triumphant despite the apparent moral warning about pursuing success at any cost (though very interesting to see comments on here that don't see that moral in there) - it adds a really nice layer of complexity to the film without feeling dense, 2001: A Space Odyssey is an apt comparison, a film I don't think I've ever enjoyed watching even though I appreciate it massively.

    i loooooove whiplash! as much as it's twisted, the way Chazelle worked with the sweat and blood to represent the obsession it's so entertaining to watch, and the ending, oh man! what an incredible, open to interpretation and fucking tense scene, with some incredible acting and some mind blowing shots! this is the best thing ever! i don't get to talk about movies, and when i try my friends just tell me to shut up and say that i know nothing about it, keep it up hazel! i'm loving this so much.

    I love EVERYTHING about this series... I am biased, I love you and I am probably going to love everything you make, especially that you have really interesting "guests" aka. other youtubers whom I love....
    But as I said, I love EVERYTHING, that includes the *comment section*... I's so nice reading all of these comments by people just like me; people who love films, love creating things or at least appreciate the process. It's also so informative, learning about everyone's different opinion or a new film fact. I just love it and it makes me so happy, so please keep doing what you do, because you truly inspire me

    This whole video, and the bit about the audience's perspective changing what they get out of the film, really reminds me of why La La Land got me so good. When I watched it, I was long distance with my boyfriend, I knew I didn't want to break it off but that it hurt to be apart from him, going to University, feeling like the whole school thing might just be me running on a treadmill. So it resonated with me hard. But I can see someone's specific point of view not matching up and the film not effecting them as much.

    No freaking way. Whiplash has been my favorite film since the day I saw it. As a film maker myself, Whiplash had major influence on the way I view and create film. It's no coincidence that it's both of our favorite films, it's because it is truly a masterpiece. I don't know if Bertie still remembers but he was subscribed to me in 2011 and saw my videos from back then when he was on twitcam. I'm still making videos, and I actually released five new shorts last week. I'd appreciate it if everyone could check them out.

      WillyWednesdays really really want to watch it. I’m a film maker as well and I found that La La Land influenced most of my work. I guess the reason it affected me so much is because the central “concept” of the film is dreamers. And I am an insane dreamer. Sooooieoa

    Whiplash gave me an actual panic attack after watching it. I had just finished my freshman year of college as a Music Education major that didn’t work out. And I wanted it so badly, spent nights sleeping in practice rooms and had that same struggle in a lot of ways. And after the film, I was so sad and angry. My friend just turned to me and said “I mean, he was just crazy and that’s why he was so insane about this.” But when you love something that much, you are that crazy. And I just had a panic attack because I related so much to this film.

    Great video! Love that people like you bring positivity to the "talking about movies"-genre on RUclips, especially on the day Every Frame A Painting ended. :(
    Loved everything about the movie except for its central thesis...
    (I disagree with it not making a point / picking a side in the way the ending frames the movie's argument)
    Damien Chazell is really fascinating to me. I get why people love his movies (and by god does he know how to make a heart-racing finale), but I disagree fundamentally with his point of view. This just happens so rarely with movies, that I feel like good filmmaking often prohibits people from voicing this way of criticism.
    Whilst walking out of both of his big movies I said: "Wow, I get the hype! That was really well made and fun, but man is this worldview opposed to mine. I like the movie, disagree with its point."
    Ps. Chazell's "thing", might not just be *the story*, it might be *white jazz*. :P

    • @allergictoalliteration6033
      @allergictoalliteration6033 7 лет назад +2

      Mario Sill Out of curiosity, what's the viewpoint you saw in Whiplash/Chazell and why do you disagree with it?

    • @Sillos09
      @Sillos09 7 лет назад

      It's a whole thing..., but to put it in the simplest terms:
      It perpetuates an old and wrong myth of talent and creativity, in which abuse by a mentor and the obsessed "tortured artist" succeed. It's taken as a given that this works, and then asks the seemingly open question: "Was it worth it?", but everything in the text points to the question being answered with "Yes!".
      I disagree.
      Some would argue the question stays unanswered (Bertie in the video).
      My even bigger problem is that I disagree with the premise of the question. In my opinion, the shown way of achieving "genius" isn't true and doesn't work. (The historic examples given in the movie are untrue).
      That's why I disagree with it morally.
