বাংলাদেশ এর প্রতিবেশী একটি দেশ হবার কারণে প্রতি বছর লক্ষ লক্ষ মানুষ গিয়ে থাকেন ভারতে। আর কলকাতা হয় প্রায় সবারই গন্তব্য, কেউ সেখান থেকে অন্যদিকে মোড় নেন, কেউ আবার সেখান থেকেই দেশে ফিরে আসেন। কলকাতায় ভাল থাকার হোটেল নিয়ে বেশ সমস্যায় পড়েন অনেকেই, আর তাই আজ আমরা এলাকার খোজ দেব, যেখানে ভালো ও তুলনামূলক সস্তা হোটেল পাওয়া সম্ভব।
সাধারণ সময়ে বেশি সমস্যা না হলেও বিশেষ করে উৎসবের সময়গুলোতে কলকাতায় হোটেলে জায়গা পাওয়া নিয়ে হয়ে যায় অনেক সমস্যা। এই সময়গুলোতে শুধু বাংলাদেশ নয়, অন্য দেশ ও ভারতের অন্যান্য এলাকাগুলো থেকেও মানুষ বেড়াতে আসেন কলকাতায়। এর ফলে নিউমার্কেট, পার্ক স্ট্রিট, মার্কুইস স্ট্রিট, সদর স্ট্রিট, রফি আহমেদ রোডের হোটেলগুলো হয়ে যায় ভরপুর।
কলকাতায় আমরা যেহেতু বিদেশি, তাই সব হোটেলে থাকতে পারি না আমরা। যেসব হোটেলে বিদেশি রাখার অনুমতি আছে, কেবল সেগুলোতেই এই কাজটি করা যায়। কলকাতার সবচেয়ে বেশি হোটেল বা গেস্ট হাউজ আছে পার্ক স্ট্রিট এলাকায় ও নিউমার্কেট চত্বরের আশপাশের রাস্তাগুলিতে। এখানে বিদেশিদের থাকার অনুমতি রয়েছে। ৬শ থেকে আড়াই হাজার রুপি প্রতি রাত হিসেবে ঘর ভাড়া পাওয়া যায়। চেক ইন-এর সময় সকাল ১২টা। এর মধ্যে কিছু কিছু হোটেলে ঢাকা থেকেও বুকিং দেওয়া যায়। তবে কলকাতায় এসে হোটেল নিলে, ঘরগুলি দেখে নেওয়ার এবং কিছুটা দরদাম করার সুবিধা পাওয়া যাবে। তবে উৎসবের মৌসুমে পর্যটকদের চাপ বেশি থাকায় হোটেলগুলি অনেক সময় অগ্রিম বুকিং বন্ধ করে দিতে বাধ্য হয়।
