  • Today it is extremely hot and we are moving the sheep into another pasture as we continue to rotational graze them. We talk about why we do it and the plans for the pastures going into the winter.

The katahdin do a great job and I haven't had any issues with parasites. I rotate the pastures regularly but they are so much easier than goats with the parasites. Thanks for the feedback.

7 hells, lol. Was that a Game of Thrones reference?
Johnson grass too! People talk about how good it is, but I’m not a fan of it! I pull the seed heads whenever I see it. I don’t wanna take the chance of losing my ewes…
    Good video, great points.

Many thanks for the kind words. No, not an intensional reference - just a term we would use in the military. Thanks for the tip Johnson grass. I did not know.

I think you have over looked an essential part of rotational grazing. That being we are moving them to mimic nature and one of those ways is by making their grazing area small. That herd has way to much field to eat on and you are not benefiting from concentrated manure being stomped into the ground.

Thank you for the feedback. I agree that there is a lot of space but there are many avenues to rotational grazing. I do not want to "mob graze" the sheep. My goal with the pastures I am using is to graze them the way I am over a period of time and get some seeds into the ground. Once they come up then I will intensify the grazing more. If I do make the area smaller then they will not allow the new seedlings to come up because it will all be eaten to the ground. This has worked for me in the past. Thanks again for the comments. Have a great week.
