Hello. So finishing a course of antibiotics doesn't necessarily stop antibiotic resistance the point is that it decreases the likelihood? Because if the initial colony had the AR mutation you're screwed either way... but then if it didn't and you had the chance to kill them all but chose not to bc you didnt complete the course, the surviving bacteria( not resistant) can reproduce and these new ones now have a chance to mutate as well.. more bacteria and alive for longer more chance of a mutation ..?
Exactly, that's right. The aim of abx is to eradicate an infection. And exposure to abx can induce the mutation in the surviving colony, or rather make it more likely to arise.
7:10 e.g. i dont get when you say 'the ones that are left are prolly the ones that are good at resisting thats why they're still there' - bc doesnt that imply if the patient finished the course it would've been fruitless anyway?? i hope im making sense essentially im asking if its about killing all the bacterie BEFORE they mutate?

(as in it has a 'taste' of the abx and learns from and mutates accordingly??) i thought it was completely random but it can sometimes not be?
