  • How do you get to Cuba by boat? Go to Key West then head south :P No but seriously, yes, you head south from Key West to either Havana or Varadero. You have to enter a port of entry to be able to clear customs. The cost in 2019 is 55 CUC for the boat and 75 CUC per person aboard. Any time you leave the marina for a day trip you need to stop by customs for an inspections of your vessel. They want to make sure you are not sneaking anything in or out of the country. You can only use your dinghy within the marina. If you anchor out, you are not allowed to go to any shore with your dinghy. Food, well this gets interesting, you can eat at restaurants were the tourists eat, or you can walk around a few blocks to find where the locals eat. The price for the meal will literally be 10 times less!! As for provisioning your boat, in Varadero at the Gaviota marina there is a small grocery store that costs quite a bit. If not, befriend some locals and head out to Cardenas to find local grocery stores and buy from street merchants. Everyone will ask you a tip, even customs…

    I know nothing about you guys, but I wanted to complement you on your excellent production. I view a lot of these cruising adventures and you up there with the best.
    Your boat also caught my attention. I knew it was a 45 by the radar arch. I purchased its cousin a Meridian 490 in Marathon Key this spring and piloted it 2200 miles to Rock Island, IL on the Mississippi River. Quite the adventure with all the flooding in the Midwest this year. Keep up the good work

      Thanks, we'll have to head by your waters one of theses days. Georgian Bay looks like a great place. My dads dad's cousin has been fishing salmon over there for more than 20 years.

    It’s funny. I have family in Puerto Rico and been there. I see this video and can see the similarities. The Puerto Rican and Cuban people aren’t that much different. The architecture isn’t much different neither. Food is very similar as well.

    You are Cruising in a Bayliner 4588 with intention of blue water cruising with a vessel that I thought was a coastal cruiser and usually insurance Companies will not cover for passage making outside of a few miles from Mainland? Was I miss-directed about the Bayliner's 4588 capabilities and vessel class?

    • @JCCruising
      @JCCruising  4 года назад +3

      Any vessel can complete a crossing in the proper conditions. You wait for the proper weather window and make sure you have some extra time for the crossing. The insurance company will give you extensions for your cruising location without regard for the type of vessel you have. We just called the insurance company and paid extra for the locations we wanted to go to.

    • @JCCruising

      It all depends, we are Canadians so it's not a problem. If you're in the US or have a US registered vessel you have to come back via the Bahamas.

      @@voiceofkarachi330 not sure there are any charter boats over there. Local Cubans are not allowed to leave the country. When we were in the marina in Varadero there were only 3 tourists boats there.
