    "Definitely watch out for those naked singles." Surprised you could say that with such a straight face. 😄

    So i just wanted to ask something.... You had mentioned Snyder notations in your previous video.. but now u have pencil marked in all the candidates... Why so? Also is there any easy way in order to make it look less cluttered and how exactly can we mark the candidates more easily

    I noticed, when you mentioned the matching pair 4 & 5 (Row H, Columns 5 & 6), that you eliminated all the 4s and all 5s in all the cells on Row H (except the matching pair in Columns 5 & 6).
    Now earlier, you defined a Unit as the Block, the intersecting Row and the intersecting Column and you even said all the values in that Unit can see each other. Did I understand you correctly?
    So, why did you not eliminate all the 4s and 5s in Columns 5 and 6? Are those columns not also part of the unit?
    Or is it a case that the Row or Column depends on the orientation of the matching pair? If it’s oriented horizontally, the Unit consists of the block and its corresponding row only and you’d remove the matching numbers only in the row, not in any column
    and if the matching pair is oriented vertically, the Unit then becomes the Block and the corresponding Column, and so you’d delete any matching numbers from the corresponding Column only, never in any Row?
    Is that a more correct understanding?

    However, we don't generally find the naked pairs when we're doing it on paper, right? This is only when we have the possibility of typing in the candidates or can it be used on paper too?

    Commentary also gets type and that overlapse the puzzle grid. So it is difficult to see the solution

    I don’t understand why the matching pair of 4&5 in block 8 eliminates the other penciled in 4 in the same block. Can you explain?

    • @TheStevenWhiting
      @TheStevenWhiting Год назад

      I don't think it can which is why this is flawed. I'm sure I've read and doing one recently that this logic is flawed, you can't always use a matching pair to eliminate other numbers in the same row. Because the 4 that was removed to put the 9 in place is just a guess. Because the 4 COULD still go where the 9 is. The 5 can't be removed from the row again unless its a guess as it could still go there.

  • @Javaman92
    @Javaman92 Год назад

    OKAY, NO ONE says it, but I guess the matching pair has to be in the same block to be a matching pair. If that isn't true then ALL your examples WERE in the same block so it would be misleading otherwise.
    AM I right?

    Ho Ho Ho Merry Christmas 🎅🎅🎅🎅 :) Great tutoriaI but I have question about matching pair "4 & 5" from h5-h6.
    When we have matching pair '' 4&5 " how we should know that 4 from h4 we can elimiate for 100% ?
    please explain me :)

    • @jbeaudoin99
      @jbeaudoin99 Год назад

      I had this same question! But if you look at the middle stack (columns 4,5,6) and solve for the "9", you will see that the "9" can only go in H4. Therefore the "4" is eliminiated from H4. Another way to look at it, if you try to put any other number in H5 or H6, you cannot put any other numbers. Only the "4" and "5".

      Thanks Norm, I appreciate you checking in, all is well! I am preparing Lesson 7 on Hidden Pairs as I'm writing this. It takes a long time to edit the videos and put in all the arrows, circles and notations, but I think it adds more value than if I just talk without highlighting the blocks, or rows or columns. But it does take time. Hopefully I should have the next lesson up by the weekend. Thanks for your concern, I appreciate it!

      I am REALLY looking forward to the next lesson too! I have a puzzle I’m stuck on - so I’m just waiting for the “hidden pair” tutorial. I tried learning from other sources but the instruction isn’t as clear and I think I’m struggling with what ISN’T a hidden pair. I know she will do a much better job at explaining this.

      Thank you LittleDole23, I appreciate knowing that these videos are helping.....after hidden pairs I will be covering Triplets a.k.a. Triples, that is also helpful in eliminating candidates. I'm not sure if I need to cover the Hidden Single or not. I appreciate the feedback from you and Norm, thank you!
