Ive seen a few engines since 1985 but none quit as slick, attention to detail and whaaaat...FACTORY LOOKING? I mean c,mon lads this looks like it came from the assembly line down at the old factory in milan!!! Hey mate did you work at the factory back in the day yea? ssssh we wont tell now will we boys?
Thanks, it went well too but I had lots of petty probs with the PWK carb so swapped it out for a Delly 26 PHBH, I've also had to change the crank, the X-Tec one twisted (probably down to the old SIL flywheel to heavy for the extra torque but it was built light) I put in a MB 58/110 with a 3mm packer under the barrel. still going strong....
John Wilcox , back in the mid 60's I had a Vespa 150 Sportique and a Lambretta Li 150. I loved them both. Haven't had a scooter since, but often get the yearning. ...🙄 I have lived in Canada since the 70s and you just don't see many scooters on the road, although. ..I see a place in Vancouver selling Vespas. .🤔 Who knows, maybe I will relive some of my teenage years. ...😆
excellent video John , thanks for posting. It will prove invaluable when I start rebuilding my first Lambretta engine next week. The text turned out a bit quick but its easy enough to pause or replay. Hope you post a video of how she goes when its finished Johnny
Great to hear "253", it was my favourite in the 60's... crammed into the Quay Club. Good thing the " 'elf n safety " weren't around in those days! Mike will be pleased to see this. Our grandchildren find it hard to get round the fact that it IS their grandad singing...ha!
Hatti it's so cool to hear from you, I met Shane in the Union Inn Saltash one afternoon a couple of years back, he was a bit embarrassed when I recognized him & thanked him for all the great times I had listening to Betterdays down the Quay. I also remember a brill gig they played in Devonport at The Steam Packet where I danced with you quite a few times. Such good times, glad you liked the film, there's quite a bit of Betterdays music on RUclips if you go looking. Lovely to see your comment, give my best to Mike. John.
John Wilcox Hi John, Yes, I remember those gigs , but I think it was the Swan. Those places had so much atmosphere. Our son has been singing in bands for a few years. I had a bit of envy when I saw he was down at the Minerva last night!! Keep up the good work with the videos. ATB, Hatti.
Hatti HAYNE Hello again Hatti, I thought you & Mike might like to know, the radio station 'Radio St. Austell Bay' has Mod show on Tuesday evenings called 'Ready Steady Mod', & this week he (Martin Bate) played two Betterdays tracks. I was so stoked to hear the lads on the radio. John Wilcox.
Get yourself a copy of 'Scooter Techniques' Lambretta Engine Rebuild DVD & the book 'Stickies' I wouldn't have been confident enough without the back up of these two aids. Good luck John.
Thanks mate, what type of size engine did you have? I have a 1971 150 gp and am looking at doing something with it. BTW thats the brunell bridge in plymoth is'nt it?
+Gimme 2 Hello mate, before I fitted this Mugello 225 it was a Indian GP 200 Motor. I think if you have a 150 the biggest you can fit is a 198cc Mugello (I think) my pal has a Casa 186 on a 150 case & that's brilliant) Yes That's the Tamar Bridge & Brunell Bridges in the opening shot, taken from Saltash Cornwall, my town. Good luck with the build, my advice, don't go too exotic, & DON'T get an e-bay kit, my mate has had a hell of a time with his & binned it in the end. Cassa, Mugello, MB. that's the way to go..................
Cheers John, And thanks for the info and the vid. My mate moors his boat out there , just up river is the sailing club from that pub with the union jack on it. ill drop in for a beer if i see ya scoot outside.
Lee Guy Sorry Lee no can do, I'm not a pro builder, just a bloke in a shed with a book & a D.V.D. There's a great scooter scene in Wales I'm sure you'll find some help. Good luck & KTF. PS try Old-S-Cool scooter club Cardiff as a way in.
haha iv got the book, but my trunions are solid and nomatter how much i try i cant get them loose to fit new gear cables, (might have to drill them out n buy new 1,s )
It depends really, I got the Mugello kit from LTH in Germany (they had the only version 4 at the time) I use CamLam a lot, all the cable control bits are MB, all the fork internals are MB, the crank is PM Tuning, Scootopia are great for standard bits like trunions, cables, speedo, badges & trim, & Scoot RS supplied the exhaust, front shockers & carb. I don't buy used bits or e bay open market stuff but I do use online shops on e bay like the front disk brake & hub from KBR. & some stuff from TSR in Wales. best advice I could give is buy the best you can afford especially engine bits. good luck, John.
Excellent work and skillfully carried out. You should be very proud of what you achieved. Beautiful work 😊
