These last two eps saved the season for sure. I can see where part of the budget went for these last two eps I think. And Isagi’s voice actor made me feel so hyped. Honestly the second hypest thing in the whole episode after the goal was Ego’s reaction. And I mean, the first show of vulnerability in the whole show. If he lost, he would be a madman, shunned and lost in obscurity. But he won, and knew what that meant for his own dream. His life was the bet on the match and he threw a sigh of relief after winning. That. That was epic.

He spent several years at the best youth academy in the world and was around some of the best talent the world could offer. The next arc elaborates on this a lot more but there’s two different types of egos and sae is looking for a “perfect” prodigy. One that can match his own play on the field while also calculating their own plays based on logic rather than natural impulse. For example, Shidou is an impulse based striker that sae only chose because he’s basically a tool. Sae can create the entire play while all shidou has to do is score from his passes. Shidou quite literally can’t create his own scorin* opportunities and this becomes a problem for him in the NEL. Comparatively, isagi calculates everything and capitalizes perfectly. He can create his own opportunities, and those for his teammates, to “win at any cost”. To achieve that a striker needs to abandon personal grudges and beef and just think about winning as a team. That’s something rin is incapable of doing due to his obsession with sae. His flow, playstyle, and even his reason for playing football all exist because of sae. That’s why sae was so disappointed when he came back from real. The second rin rejected Sae’s offer sae knew that rin couldn’t be a great striker. He’s a true genius but his mentality prevents him from being the heart of his team alongside sae. That led to sae disowning him because rin had effectively crushed his dream of winning the World Cup. Sae thought (pretty rightfully so) that Japan could never produce its own top striker that he could work with. His only hope was rin and rin completely disappointed him and crushed him dream. That’s why sae says isagi can change Japanese soccer. He’s an egogist who can predict the unpredictable and create plays for himself AND his team. He’s not trying to put down rin so much as he’s admitting to himself that he’s found his striker. At this point sae is just indifferent to rin. He genuinely doesn’t know why he keeps going because sad knows that he’ll never be able to lead Japan to a World Cup with his play style.

What doesn’t make sense to me tho is how come Isagi suddenly doesn’t have his signature green aura for this insane shot? Instead it kinda looked like he was surrounded in blue, which does LOOK better, but it’s not consistent at all… also why tf do they always cut the actual scorer’s scream and just go with the announcer/crowd? They did the same thing with Barou’s goal and Rin’s.
@Pwjdjskw Because Isagi's green aura first prominently pops up against his match with Naruhaya and Barou, whereas before that it was his original blue aura. When Isagi devours Naruhaya, his aura turns orange before going to green. Because he didn't devour anyone specifically, his aura is his classic Blue

the way isagi called down luck, seized his goal in the moment, and lived in it so completely was beautiful and inspiring to watch. a goal like this shows opportunities will come if you don’t quit but you have to stay ready and stay hungry.
that was a pretty cool detail they added in the anime. after every goal, you can see her becoming more invested in the match 😄 in some of the other can scenes, you can see more and more people crowding around to watch haha

And Isagi learning from the experiences, understanding positioning and how to make your previous move contribute to your next move And also Isagi doing the opposite of what Rin did. Rin essentially went at it solo while Isagi had faith that Rin will stop Sae. So much faith that he didn't fall back.
This episode has made me realize that Itachi Sae didn't really break a sweat during the entire match. granted he was playing against a makeshift team comprised of strikers, but that's still a makeshift team of the best strikers in all of japan after 3 selections. Goes to show how much of a monster the New gen 11 are.
