Hurtgen was a battle that suited Germany perfectly in their attempt to attrit Allied forces. It takes real military brains to get sucked into initiating such a battle.
Firstly the British and Americans had different fuel supply systems, The British by undersea pipeline from the UK to France and by rail to Holland. The US by jerry cans delivered by ship to Omaha beach and transported by road. The British always had fuel, US not so much!. Bradley's Hurtgen Forest battle was a major disaster that cost over 100,000 casualties. But worse was Patton's Lorraine-Metz Campaign with over 110,000 casualties including 26,000 dead. Both US battles were not victories, as the Germans were undefeated and regrouped for the Battle of the Bulge. Monty's losses for the same period were Market-Garden 8,000 casualties and 7,000 POW, plus 20.000 for the Battle of the Scheldt, total just 35,000.
After the long slogging battles against superior German panzer divisions it wasn't until Feb 45 that the german force retreated or was diverted to the oder
"superior "... tell me where? the Germans were outnumbered 4 to 1 in some place, short of fuel, ammunition, food and medical supplies,!!!!!!! wake up man, stop dreaming
I read and heard about Hurtgen forest attacks ,strokes around Achin city, Hill 400 American Rangers assaults and Germans stubborn, furiously and successful Repealed. but not in such details, which was introduced by an amazing ( War Academy) channel in this magnificent video... thanks for sharing .
Human narration would improve the presentation immensely; I would volunteer for nada. AI voices are so distracting-"World War Eye" for WW1. Upvoted for content, thought, jsyk. :-)
Thank you! Battle of Tali-Ihantala 1944 towards the end of the Continuation War. How could they drop the ball so badly on the thumbnail and be expected to be taken as a legit history channel?
The bombardment of Düren where more than 3000 German civilians lost their lives is just one of many war crimes committed by the allies during world war 2.
@@talldreamyopposum I know.. brainwashed folks don't like to hear the other side of the story. But don't cry son everything will be fine. Ask your mommy for some candy.
If only those allied generals knew in advance about the world of today, they would've packed up and gone home and said "f..k it, its not worth it, we are fighting the wrong enemy",,, and don't forget those very same allies aided and abetted their arch enemy the Russians that have caused so many wars and death since
When you watch american movies, there's 12 germans for 1 american so the amricans look like good soldiers but in real life the germans were almost always outnumbered 2 to 1 minimum and they won most of the times. it took the allies to have 20/1 soldier to win the war. the allied were not as good as the germans, they won by number only
The thumbnail is not from Tali-Ihantala, but from Uuksujärvi in Ladoga Karelia. Taken in 3 September 1944, on the last days of the Continuation War. But still, it depicts a Finnish corporal with captured Soviet anti-tank rifle, and has nothing to do with the Hürtgen Forest.
The Germans are unbeatable in the forests, even The Romans knew that.
I visited the Hurtgen several times. The terrain is extremely rough.
Me too
The Americans didn't expect such resistance from the Germans
a recurring theme in the American military always underestimating there enemy

You can't fight or start a battle with 2 losing fronts and not enough resources...really?
The forest of the Roman battle of Varos.

A tragic coincidence is another controversial battle conducted at the same time in the Pacific - the Battle of Peleliu
Peleliu was not re
An excellent effort.
Sounds like an alien being telling the story
Anyone else dislike the A.I. narration? Ruined this.
Boy do I hate the AI narration.
Good history Channel

You are 1000 percent right
So you are fine with the Jewish people and other minorities be genocided and decimated in a different outcome of the war?

The american meat grinder
I wonder whether the Allied ever won a single battle against the German Army on equal terms. 🤔
good point, if not for allied air power they would have been screwed

Maybe germany shouldnt have fought a war on two fronts......

Tragic incompetence. Compare the Reichswald vs. the Hurtgen forests as battles.
The British were having replacement problem at that time
A good video. Nicely done
Thumb nail is Finnish soldiers not Germans

Terrible commentating, could only listen to the first two minutes....
Just as the American did in Pelelieu, etc. But yeah, catasthropic decision in the fog of war happends. Every side made similar mistakes.

Yeah, that's why I rarely watch Holywood movies 😅.
Once again, quality is sometimes not as good as quantity.
Lets so whos gonna fight harder. A conscript on foreign land or a conscript fighting against invasion of his country?...... 🤦🏽
Hamburger Hill South Viet Nam, what a waste.

"Hurting" I thought it was pronounced HURTGEN !!!
I believe it was the 22nd division
Russians avg that much in a typical week
As quickly as Passable?? I think you mean possible
I love old war documentaries, but I have decided to instantly stop watching when I hear terrible ai narrations
I hate AI narration.
Why are the maps in another language than English????
❤🎉🎉🎉
The fkn ai voice is unbearable.
you probably would have been better off just doing the narration in your own language
