I met her Mom in Korea where I was teaching English at Han Yang University in Seoul. The first time I saw her she was on a leash and she was 4 years old. I married her mother and we've been in the US since late 2008. I quit trying to teach because teaching here had become deflating and grim. I started driving a bus and she would occasionally hop on board on her way to the charter high school in City Heights she was attending. It was always a thrill cause she's just so beautiful and her smile would make my heart skip a beat. She's now 23 and finishing her degree in psychology at Chico State. My route takes me through the heart of the UCSD campus, which has probably a near 50% asian student body. From the side or the back, or sometimes straight on I could swear it's her and again I hold my breath for a moment and my heart flutters. I know she's not here but of course she is. She's been my daughter for 19 of her 23 years so...This song...
I can't agree I'm afraid. This whole concert is ruined by that slide guitar. I'd agree with you about those two songs from just about any other performance. This one... I don't know what Mr Knopfler was thinking.
Brothers In Arms and Calling Elvis from this very concert really confirmed to me that he is the finest guitarist ever in my opinion. Love your channel and reactions especially to my favorite artist ever. Cheers, Merry Christmas, all the best from Australia. 👍🎸🎸🎸🎅
I find myself listening to this song alot of times when i go skateboarding, because it sounds awesome and i find that i skate better when i listen to something that helps me relax
Red I hope you know I could listen to you dissect songs 24/7/365 You are so well-spoken and sharp as hell ❤❤❤I admire you so much, lady 💯💯💯 BTW you look fantastic in Black 🖤🖤🖤🖤#redheadedneighbor #bestreactor #redsarmy #beautifulfuncountrygirl #heartofgoldwithmetalinhersoul #38K
Brothers In Arms is an absolute must for your next foray into this band. There are many versions, all of which are excellent, but I think the context that the official music video brings is important for that particular song (as much as I hate that the intro and outro are trimmed). Probably best to do a little research into the subject matter first. Then after that, Telegraph Road from Alchemy Live is nothing short of a (quite literal) journey through music, with some of the best piano work I've ever heard.
Right up there with David Gilmour and Alex Lifeson on guitar work. Style very different but equally unique tactical skills. And Marks songwriting and delivery are epic. Love this band! Thank you for doing this.
I recommend the studio version for this actually but you can tell from this nice job how great this song is underrated to hell/ Marks vocals is so good.
Red, as a Newcastle United Football Club fan you must listen to 'Local Hero' or Mark Knopfler's (the lead singer) 'Why Aye Man' - wonderful tunes that mean so much to people from my neck of the woods (Geordie Land in the North East of England).
You're right, his guitar and voice meld together and his/their songs are usually story telling ones and they transition from introspective to full on instrumental bliss. Check out Industrial Disease for something different again. It has amusing lyrics that you'll have fun with and is more of a standard 4/5 min song.
I love Dire Straits and have a great Dire Straits song requests that was just hitting the charts about this time of year in 1981 that I first heard while I was in Basic Military Training. When I hear it, it takes me back to those old Army days. It's called, "Skateaway" It's about a woman skating around the big city listening to rock music on her portable radio with headphones torturing taxi drivers and drawing attention to herself. It was a common and popular thing in those days for girls to skate the streets of the city. Most guys like me was skateboarding like many still do. I chose this video because it's so damn good. The nostalgia is so epic and I heard you say you love scenes of the way things were back in the day in the video's so, you should love this one. @@jjc5407 Well, let me see........... the storyteller's quest to locate the person he is romantically attracted to, the lady-killer, the third character, is introduced as a charming outlaw with traits that represent temptation and danger. the narrator's conflicting emotions toward the person he is looking for, as well as the individual's resistance to be located, led me to that conclusion. However, this is my take of it (a fun one). I could be totally wrong though!
@@sleepdeprieved I always have the impression it's a detective looking for a missing girl, walking the streets of New York late into the night showing her photo to various people, trying to find a trace of her but knowing there's little chance of success. "I don't know why it is I'm still on the case". I see nothing romantic in the lyrics or even anything to suggest he knows the person he's searching for.
@@jjc5407I think it can be both imo, and that's the idea of the song. Most guys who have been in love with someone impossible have had that feeling of looking for her in every street and sometimes seeing her face when it's not her
A letra denota alguém em busca, cada rosto, pessoa não passam despercebidos....algo como detetive em busca de respostas ou algum encontro significativo.
That saxophone blows the wind under your wings and lets you take off far up into the sky, that whole track is magical.
Mark Knopfler's secret weapon is he is not afraid to use silence to add emotion and drama. Sometimes nothing is everything!

Having Paul Franklin on this tour just toke the Straits sound to a whole new level with is amazing Pedal Steel work
Finale......MONUMENTALE. !!!! 🔥🔥🔥

Fantastic. Your reaction, your assessment is spot on Mark's guitar seems laid back but is really very precise, so much more here for you to explore.
I adore this track…along with Planet of New Orleans. Thanks for doing it!
He duets with his guitar so purposely ❤

Beautiful reaction
Thank you for your perspective on the song and the performers who have been favorites of mine since 1978.
Master lyricist and storyteller.

Songwriting on the Dire Straits albums was very good
Good Times Good Vibes 🎸 🎵 🎶
Great comments Red, Dire Straits has to be one of the best British bands ever. Nice if you play more.

Alchemy Live,Sultans of Swing,or Telegraph Road 👍
You’ll often hear the various instruments echoing each other. Listen for the sax and piano playing off each other and then the guitar comes in.
Worth checking the album version too, along with the other album tracks. Some real meaningful lyrics to be had.
Brothers in Arms official video is a MUST WATCH AND LISTEN. 🙏. Love your reactions ❤
You have been doing an excellent choosing songs to react to.
le concert c'était dans les Arènes de Nîmes en France 😊😊😊😊
Calling Elvis from this live album is also classic
and Private Investigations 🥰
telegraph road please from Alchemy, it'sthestory of the origins of Detroint

If you enjoy Knoffler's guitar work, check out Slow Train by Bob Dylan. Mark's guitarwork is unmistakeable
I agree...it was very laid back!!!....kinda cool.

Skateway is an amazing song, one of those that most of the people do not even know, a jewell.
It never rains too
Not sure if I got the lyrics right TBH 😕Is this about a guy searching for his ex who has had a one night stand....etc!?
I'm curious, what makes you think that's what the song is about?

I love his guitar playing but I've never been able to understand his singing for years now.!😢
