Tomato/Tomauto. I have always called them "Pika's" Everybody I have known in Colorado call them that as well. "Peeka" might technically be correct, but who cares. In CO, we call them "Pika's."
I thought it was like Pikachu for sure. 🥰. Usually when I see a word that is from another language, I pronounce the I like EE, automatically. I never heard it aloud before though, only read it. lol
I never heard of a Pika until your video. They are cute. Rabbits are cuter. The Cottontails that live around my barn are very friendly. They take food from my hand. They even do zoomies and binkies when they see me. I would love to see a video comparing domestic rabbits and Cottontails. Very nice video about the Pika.
@@aleksandramakariActually Pikachu is inspired by squirrels and the “Pika” in Pikachu is not named after the creature but rather the Japanese word “pika pika” for the sound that comes from electricity with “chu” being the Japanese sound word for a mouse’s squeaking. The fact that it shares a name with a similar looking real animal is actually a very interesting coincidence and I didn’t realize it until later.
To clear up some confusion Pikachu is NOT named after the cute animal pika. It’s named after “pika pika” a Japanese sound word for electrical crackling and “chu” the Japanese word for the sound a mouse makes. It’s just a cool coincidence that it shares a similar but different sounding name to a similar looking animal. It’s a common misconception that Pikachu is named after the pika and I used to believe that too. At least I learned about pika’s as a result.
And surprisingly Pikachu is NOT named after these cuties. It’s named after “pika pika” for the sound of electricity in Japanese and “chu” for the sound a mouse makes in Japanese.
There is a very cute 4 minute CBC video clip on pikas, on RUclips showing how "Pikas in the Rockies steal from their neighbours to survive". They harvest and dry wildflowers for a winter hay pile - and are not above pilfering from their neighbour's pile. They seem to act like bunnies too!
I love how soft furry and warm bunnies are, mine used to keep me warm on a cold morning when I had her out in my bed. She was all clean and soft and her eyes were all big and loving! RIP little rabbit!
@JonathanRiccardi Yes, but we all die eventually. she had a good life and I'm proud to have been her owner and best friend. She was so cute, I used to pet her for hours and I hand fed her sometimes, she had a cute habit up pulling my hand down with her paw if I lifted it up too far.
My bunny makes quite a lot of noise when she is happy. A very low snorting noise . Especially when she sees treats or I come back home after work. .She runs around snorting, it's very comical. 💕
Very interesting. I've actually never heard of a Pika. I've heard a rabbit scream once. Once was enough. We had a male attack a young female. We intervened quick enough that she was not injured. But, it took some work to calm her. Next idea- maybe- I'm not sure if they are relevant to rabbits, but maybe prairie dogs?
I just want to say, thank you so much for all your videos! I’ve been watching your videos for about 3 years and I’ve learnt so much about rabbits because of you! I looked at your free roaming videos and I wanted to free roam my rabbits so, so bad but my mother doesn’t agree with me. I keep on telling her and I showed her your videos but she won’t stop. The stay in this small room and I want to get them out of there. My mom is worried that they’ll bite the wallpaper, run around, we might stomp on them or they’ll not go back in their room at night (we have a new rabbit with trusting issues since she was in a horrible shelter!) Can you please tell me what I should do? I just want to free roam them so they can be happy. Please help me convince her!!
I just had a further thought , marmots are adorable , but some are endangered . You could also do gophers ( the real gophers as compared to the Richardsons Ground Squirrel , chipmunks , Guinea pigs , Canadas largest rodent, the beaver, gerbils , mice and rats , and the capivera (?) . No all make good domesticated pets though . Did I forget anyone ???
Is this a good cage for two tiny/small rabbits that are bonded? Kavee cage USA and look at the 6x2 cage for bunnies. They have very large cages and play pens for rabbits (note, they need to be small or tiny, possibly small/medium breeds, definitely not medium/large or XL large like Flemish giants) I would have the one with the lid on it, just so that the bunnies don't interact with the dog. They would be in a separate room, and would be supervised at all times. I would have them on a table so my small dog won't go crazy. Is this safe? Or should I have it on the floor? And put up panels on the see through door. so the dog doesn't see the bunnies? I I want them to be safe, and so that's why I would have them on the table, away from the dog in case the dog ever came in the room. Also, I would have a lock on the door, so the dog would not walk in. Any thoughts, suggestions would be appreciated
I've actually seen a pyka before it was like when I was 45 and it looked very very very very similar to my cousin's rabbit I don't remember what greeted us though
I had never heard of a Pika before - they remind me of a Rock Badger or Hyrax that the Bible talks about. They are so cute! God made them for beauty and purpose. I am still biased to bunnies - God sure did do a wonderful job when He made bunnies! I am in awe at how lovely they are in every way - they are so adorable from the tips of their whiskers to the tips of their tails. They are incredibly soft, smell sooo good, they are just so sweet in temperament and oh just altogether wonderful.
Well said! Yes the Hyrax I didn’t know what it was but I read it in the Bible and looked it up. They remind me of my piggies! God Bless You and All the animals out there ❤
My first bunny as an adult, the love of my life and soulmate, used to stampede across the floor upstairs and squeal with joy and happiness while running down the stairs when i would get home. He was very vocal! It was like he was copying me lol. Before he got neutered, he used to make affectionate cooing sounds at me which was adorable. He also made a lot of chirping noises like his adopted sister. One rare time, I caught them arguing vocally and literally cussing each other out taking turns and going back and forth. They sounded like angry versions of Molong (French cartoon bunny). He used to do side flops into my hand and bat his eyelashes while purring and telling me he loved me too. His sister is a lot quieter now… we both miss him so much!!
Lorelei, please anything you can do to help… I have been recently told by my vet that my 5 year old bunny, Nellie, has broken her femur and my 2 options are amputation or euthanasia. The amputation is the option I would like to choose as my vet believes she will adjust to 3 legs… unfortunately the surgery is financially not feasible as it will be between 3000-5000 dollars. I don’t want to have to say goodbye due to finances. Do you have any suggestions or contacts that could help me. I don’t like asking for help but my bunny needs help. Please! I would do anything!!!! Hello. I have a question about bunnies.I really want one or two bunnies, but I'm away from home for 8 hours. Do you think it would be good for me to adopt a bunny? Or would it be better to adopt 2 bunnies to keep them company while I'm away from home? Thank u❤❤
They are both related since they are *lagomorphs* , even tough rabbits are leporidae and pikas are ochotonidae Note this both are *NOT* rodents even tough they shared common ancestors Rodents have two pair of incisors in upper and down jaw, just pair of incisors in upper jaw while rabbits and pikas wich are both lagomorphs have four sets of incisors, two pairs in upper jaw. My rabbit recently passed for an unknown reason, She ate little and didnt drink water that we saw her droppings were not in the correct shape and were very large. We tried to look in search for a rabbit vet and we even drove to L.A. just to find out that the bunny vet wasn't working anymore. She did pass in my arms, and will never be forgotten💗💗rip moonlight🕊💕

You should take some videos of that and share!

You do not want a pika in your house. They gnaw on everything, much worse than rabbits, hence the expression "pika chew!"

The most difference is in the eyes. Rabbits' eyes are like hares, and humans, unlike pikas whose eyes resemble rodents. And of course vocals.
This is completely irrelevant but do you have insurance on Lennon? Or do you have any thoughts about pet insurance for bunnies?
