Exploring the Abandoned Swannanoa Laundry

- From what I can gather, this building was originally built as a church, which started construction in 1884. It was turned into a laundry in 1891, and then heavily renovated around 1940 by architect William Dodge. The Swannanoa Laundry (now named Swannanoa Cleaners) moved out some time after that, but the building remains in a state of disrepair.
NOTE: I do not condone entering these types of places alone or without permission! I had someone with me, had permission to enter, and the floors and such were checked to make sure they were stable before walking around. Want to truly be safe? Don't do it at all. But of course, what's the fun in that?
UPDATE: This location has now been demolished :( i.imgur.com/uNVdwqd.jpg
*UPDATE:* This building has now been demolished :( Seems this video may be the final documentation of this once-awesome place. i.imgur.com/uNVdwqd.jpg
We used to have an old boiler house nearby, it might been fron 50's. it just stod there abandoned over 40 years and when they demolished it they build a Lidl foodstore on it's Place.
***** The same can be said for retired U.S. Navy vessels they're as much of a piece of history as this building was
Exactly
Wait... LGR did abandon videos?

"I can't do that!"
Thank you for taking the time to share videos of abandoned building exploration! I wandered in your direction because of the oddware reviews, and finding gems like this video was an unexpected bonus. Combined, it meant subscribing was simply necessary.
I hope you keep sharing more like this!
I've never seen a laundry this big. Did it wash the clothes of the entire town?
Most likely it was to help with an old local Hospital, among other things. So yeah, kind of.
Wonder why it still had electricity.. That's what unsettles me.
Spooky lazy electrical company :O
Right, who knows what, if any, of that wiring was frayed and/or submerged in the mass of standing water...
You only make THAT kind of mistake once by messing with the electric panels that are sabotaged...
Watching you walk around there gave me chills lol. Reminded me of some of the other horror games and man, when you went, or wanted to go up those dark stairs, I was half trying to close my eyes in fear or something. But really cool video though, Clint. Excellent stuff!
You know, splice out the dialogue and you got a Marble Hornets Entry.
Very nice... I love your channel. Things like this make it even better!
I love abandoned places I'd like to see more!
Do more of these please! If you can and dare of course.
you def should still be doing this man
These videos are pretty neat. I'd love to see more!
A little bit of urban exploration? I approve. You do find neat things in older buildings, drainage systems, basements. Awesome upload!
Love these videos! Keep em coming please! :)
Is it just me, or has Clint been urbexing before Dan bell made the genre cool? I'm always surprised by these older videos.
ive always been interested in the unseen places in buildings. crawl spaces boiler rooms things like that. i was fascinated about the people that lived in boiler rooms like janitors. they just have a small room off to the side with a bed and maybe a desk amd some shelving and they just hangout in these inustrial looking boiler rooms haha. used to wonder what that was like.
this abandonned building videos are awesome! you should do more.
i enjoy these i hope you keep doing them :).
I thought this was an urban exploration channel at first when I just clicked on the link in my feed. I used to do this sort of stuff. Be very careful of wet wooden floors,or floors in areas where you can tell the roof is damaged. you can easily fall through if it is rotten enough. in fact I would test everything new you are about to step on. I almost fell to my death because someone put a rubber mat on a big hole in a catwalk once. Just be careful and stay safe.
All this place needs now are those armless monsters from silent hill.
these videos are awesome.
you need to do alot of these.
Its too bad they demolished the building,we are losing our past.
Wow cool find in the older LGR videos!!
Gotta say I'm liking these LGR Explores videos
I love the diversity you are trying to bring to this channel
Awesome any abandend hospitals . Also nice to see your vids on retroware app .
My heart skipped a few beats when you showed how steep those stairs were....I have a mortal fear of heights...I don't know how you did that... *shudders*
Awesome, more of this abondoned exploring places thingy please Clint :)
lol i love these kind of videos from you keep it up
You should do more of these types of videos i love them aswell as your gaming vids, they inspire me :D You ever thought of going to Chernobyl? I have always wanted to go there. There's something about abandoned places that really interest me xD
3:35 it should be a boiler, we had two on a factory in front of my house, fueled by oil/natural gas to heat water that connected to the whole facility to warm the place a bit on cold days, it was awesome watching it working as on its back there is a small windows that lets you see its gigant ring shaped fire, it sounded some kind of jet plane, mostly because the electrical engine turbines on its sides, didn't seem complicated to operate it trough :)
These abandoned building videos are pretty cool. Though now I can't help but wonder how such buildings become abandoned like this and left that way. No one wants to at least knock it down and rebuild it into something useful?
Then again, for history's sake it is appropriate. That and it's just damn cool too... it feels like a Manhunt location. God I love that game!
I lived in the Eastern part of North Carolina for a long time. Morehead City to be exact. I miss North Carolina, especially good old fashioned North Carolina style BBQ.
Silent Hill vibe here
best graphics ever!
Didnt know you were an Urban Explorer before all the Computer stuff...awesome!
These kinds of videos are actually pretty fucking cool. MORE.
Hey Clint love these videos, I was thinking of Condemned when you were in the really dark areas,
Couldn't you get caught going in to a building like this. I wouldn't like to be caught lol
I also almost expected either Zombies or a thug with a lead pipe or a wrench come round the corner.
This is actually reall cool, I like seeing all these "abandoned" places. It's really intresting.
I bet you've seen some weirrrddd shit.
I'm done going into abandoned buildings and weird placings, too many vagrants. Not enough protection.
A dude I know went into a building to be demolished, poked his head into a hole, and promptly got sneezed on by a homeless dude.
Lazy Game Reviews ew that's Nasty 😂
i mighta said this before but this video is awesome. I did this sort of thing a few times where I used to live, there aren't any places like this where I live now, just old barns and those aren't as fun
these videos are cool. keep em up. :)
In Kitchener, Ontario, they have converted several industrial buildings into apartments and office space including one being converted for hi-tech startup companies.
This was so interesting!
I like these new abandoned places videos you've been putting up. Don't listen to the goons who just want you to talk about video games in your videos. I say a little variety is a nice thing to have.
This is definitely odd forgotten and obsolete 😂😅🤣
Every latch, floorboard, brick, pane of glass, valve and pipe there were handled by human hands once... When you start to think about things like that, you can't help but feel a little melancholy about places like this.
is this going to be the last abandoned buildings video you do? Or is there going to be more in the future? I would imagine it's not easy to find one that you can actually get access to, because most of them are heavily locked down to keep people out. It's probably not safe, I would worry about the floor falling through or something
What are the odds...? Last night the last thing I saw on youtube was a docu on Urban Explorers, today when I log on for the first time, what do I see? LGR doing UE... great timing my man :)
I agree with the positives. I love historical evidence and what better than spaces you can walk around. I feel a real sense excitement when a piece of paper, or sign or old candy wrapper is found. The stories surrounding any 'found' item is fascinating.
I came for games but end up watching abandoned buildings :) I love vintage, I'd have gone in with just a camera and come out with a couple of dial's, a sign and a pew!
LGR Urban Exploration FTW!
Didn't know you were into urban exploration! Nice.
Dude, what? I'm in asheville! I've been following your stuff for a while now but somehow missed this video! Do you live here or elsewhere?
Awesome, even though I was half waiting for Slenderman to show up. Love abandoned buildings
America is awesome for so many reasons and the abandoned dwellings is one of them.
I've always wanted to explore an abandoned place like this, don't have the balls though lol. Hope you make more videos like these!
I love these kinds of places. They're like literal shadows of the past.
You should have done this at night to get an even better spooky effect.
Is that old factory down by the river/train tracks still there? I went there a couple years back. talk about spooky. Might be pretty dangerous and it looked like people were squatting in the building.
I second this. You should do architectural and building engineering reviews. :p
The fist piece of equipment you wandered what it was is a boiler. that bell you flicked with your finger was likely an alarm for that boiler to signal that it needs attention (like having a low water condition or something like that) It's fairly average size.
This was really cool, thanks
It has been brought to my attention that LGR dabbled into Urbex - which is intriguing! But it appears to have fizzled out, which is unfortunate...
Imagine Clint urbexing places close to the channels topic, like abandoned electronics manufacturers or retail stores... hmm... cool thought.
As much as i like your game videos, i think i like these more!
At 3:44, that machine might be a chiller, part of the building AC system. It uses refrigerant to cool water, then sends it off to fans to distribute the cool air to the rest of the building. Take a deep breath, ahhhh, poisonous refrigerant!
They don't even need to knock it down, unless its unsafe. A lot of these places would make really cool houses or other types of businesses.
Love this!
I love places like this.
iv got an old 2 story factry in my back garden that used to be a bakers in 1902-1944 when half of it was hit by a german bombing raid they never cleaned the rubble away and its still to this day exactly how it was when it got hit . i found a bit of the bomb casing there when i was a kid
I'm kind of surprised LGR did urban exploration videos.
More videos like this please.
Really cool, btw I think that big tank you saw was a boiler, I saw a gas line near the bottom which would be used to light a fire at the bottom of the tank there. How did you get permission to go in there btw? I'm also confused by what you meant by "I'm going to boil my body after this." XD
You need to be super careful in these place, that pipe hanging from the rafters in the large upstairs room is covered in asbestos. Serious cancer risk.
I was half expecting there to be a jump scare at the end. I guess the power is left on for the church but it sure is odd that it's on all the time, I mean someone has to pay for it. It would be a good space for a garden or park or some open area. What with the church on its doorstep and flats the other side, that great big place is taking up a lot of useless space. I expect someone has had the same idea and has already got onto the council about it.
"Sooo much pigeon crap!" I lol'd.
Another cool video phreakindee, more please.
Holy Shit! I forgot about this video! If I hadn't come across this video a few years ago, I never would have found LGR.
Its cool you have explored Asheville.
You're lucky that you live in a country with actual history to explore. Here in Canada the oldest thing is probably still alive.
Looked like a capture from DayZ. Just waited for the zombie alertsound :D
So you're in Asheville. I worked at Mt. Mitchel one summer many years ago.
A sound designer's oasis. I'd love to find a place like that. Lots of cool sounds to record.
phreakindee, you have awesome ways to spend your wet rainy days...lol :D
Dude that place is creepy as shit.
You should do more.
That looks like a water boiler that's used to provide steam for various things in the building. Probably water heating as well.
I don't know what to think about you wandering around abandoned places lately. Is it just fascination? And are you actually even allowed in there? ^^
Heh in Maine we have a bunch of adbandoned factorys(mostly in saco) that are being repurposed now. :p but most of it is still not used and empty, its neat to sneek around if you can get through the locks x.x/
You should have edited something to pop out & scare the viewers. Seeing you walking in that dark, abanded house just demand some jumpscare. :D
i'm thinking about doing something like this in my hometown, what would i have to ask the owners and how would i go doing that?
cool video nice variety
coming from somebody in the Johnston/Wilson/Wake County area, NC can get pretty scary sometimes. Keep your ears open in these "abandoned" places or request police surveillance. I mean, one day it could be "boom, meth lab."
For some dumb reason I now want too see you play or review Amnesia.
Hey man are you still dragging those slippers around :D?
SO ENVIOUS! I love abandon buildings and ghost towns. Something a fallen building makes me wonder what used to go on within it's walls.
Best paintball arena ever.
Whoa... you're like Mark from classic games room, you can review anything.
wow. that looks like one of those old fmv games for sega cd & saturn. awesome ^^
adventure time! i was half expecting him to stumble upon a dead body lolz
