25:24, He is a good father and husband. This is such a rare thing to see from a dad who is so traditional. So many times, the father will expect the mother to do the cooking and be served. This man doesn't want to see the woman being the only one doing work while his family sits and plays games and he does nothing. I really admire that attitude. My fiance is like that too. He doesn't just expect me to wait hand and foot for him. I get why the dad was upset.
My dad is the same way. Real traditional men are protectors and providers. They don’t just do those things physically. They protect their woman’s emotions and her mind and they provide avenues for relief from stresses. These “traditional” men you speak of aren’t really traditional at all.

LOL poor kid tho. He reminds me of myself, the guardians usual dont do anything with their kids and the kids play video games then blames everything on video games except themselves.

Title: “Cruelest Episode of Wife Swap Ever” The episode: Genuine bonding between two families that turns out to quite possibly be the only truly mutually beneficial episode of the whole show
@GunnarCline and that's where I think the producers may have played a hand for the drama, otherwise why wouldn't the wife who made that decision have focused instead on getting the girls, who actually expressed that they felt like they had too much on their plate, some free time.

Tammy was so much more of a parent to the kid than his actual parents. The other woman Lyn really only need to teach Tammy’s family to relax but Lyn needs to learn to do more as a parent.
A relative of the gamer family's has commented on this above. The dad was actually devoted to his son and not a slob. Apparently they bought a house after the show, husband and wife are still together and the kid is alright.
I'm pretty sure Andrew has developmental issues. It's obviously scripted, but he behaves like someone who has a disability. Maybe even something that's genetic, passing down to his kid.
It’s so ironic that the “chill” wife said that she doesn’t have rules cause she can’t enforce them but then went on to force that child to miss the most important game of the season!
I can't help but feel that the director told them to do that...cause that mom seemed OK with whatever her kid wanted to do that was fun. And sports is fun to that kid. So I don't think she would make the kids stop sports completely unless she was told to do so.
Yeah I agree, but his strong reaction could also be partly because his parents have taught him it’s THE END OF THE WORLD to miss a game, that he will be a failure etc. Of course you should take sports seriously if you play on a team who relies on you but it shouldn’t be THAT serious to a little kid.
@@L33tSkE3t Probably, but the way he pointed out it was unfair to make 1 person (the mom) cook and clean all the time (in the 2000s!!) made him a class act to me. i always felt bad for some of the sports kids i went to school with. one girl would have panic attacks before games because if she lost she'd be punished at home. our team lost a basketball game once and because she'd missed a shot, her dad made her run laps and grounded her for several weeks. it was wild!! i remember her crying to our friend group because she had to return her new dress she'd bought for a school dance since her dad had grounded her because of that game and wasn't allowing her to attend anymore.
Yeah that just abuse. It’s one thing to want your kid to get a scholarship if they are legit close to it* but it’s another thing to punish them for not performing in the game.
Both those families DESPERATELY needed to see that life shouldn’t be so far to one side in either direction. “I think your kids are pushovers because they don’t know when or how to speak up for themselves” was such a good take. I do really appreciate the fact that Gunnar called Tammi coming home and taking down all the poorly made drawings and refilling the cabinet with both trophies and photos, but mostly photos. My guess is the trophies up there are the ones the kids asked to put up because THEY were proud of it, and thats just such a huge difference. Subtle, but huge.
I really want a husband swap where they swap the dads who think they should get to come home and sit on the couch ignoring everybody with an actual proper stay-at-home dad who does all the work expected of women. It would be such a mess, a trainwreck that I couldn't help but to watch.

One thing Lyn really stated ( 17:55 ) that makes massive sense, to paraphrase: you are teaching your kids to be pushovers because all you do is push them. They are pushovers because they do not have a voice. It was laid out clear when the daughter spoke to Lyn about not having "me time." If they had a voice, at all, I feel there'd be less ""everything"" in their lives. You are leaving their individuality to be yours and not theirs. At some point, you're living multiple lives and you are abusing your privilege as a parent to have structure when it costs these kids' social, mental, and physical well-being. And sports is physical hell. I was in sports a lot as a kid. I'd have days when my arms were really sore and I couldn't write during class to take notes except for maybe 20-30% of the time. I am lucky that it wasn't anyone else's fault but my own to a degree. I pushed myself. I had individuality to want these things for myself. I am lucky I wasn't living someone else's life that they either didn't have at my age then, or wasn't good enough and so they had to somehow get the awards through me.
This is so true. My friends would often tell me that they would ask to do things they liked and are interested in but it would be thrown aside because it wasn't what their mom wanted or she didn't have "time" since the things she wanted took up all their time. The daughter had to move away just to escape it and the son just felt like the less wanted child because they prioritized his sister. Where as I was left to my own devices for the most part, but provided with literally anything I was interested in. Homeschooled on a computer with minimal interference from my parents. Played video games 4-5 hours a day but still excelled at piano, loved reading, learned to sew, got into knitting, decided to learn Japanese and even moved there for awhile just because I wanted to be around the people and language. I attribute this to why I am a self starter and innovator at work places unlike my coworkers who will just wait for someone to tell them what to do or follow orders exactly instead of finding more efficient options (because they never learned to decide for themselves). Of course some kids probably do thrive in this environment, but you have to communicate with your children in order to find that out. Which NEITHER family is doing. I think that is the overall failing for the parents in this episode (besides the video gamer dad who is just a man child) It's funny because my husband and I are both video gamers but we take turns serving the other "gamer gremlin" 🤣
I completely agree, and from how the sports mother was talking about showing love, it seems like she only shows her kids anything positive when they're winning. The husband even says that she specifically has a hard time showing it. Those girls need room to stretch their wings or they're gonna be screwed once they get out there after their big burnout.
the “you quit once you quit everything” mentality actually kept me out of activities. if i was tired one week and needed a week off i had to either be sick or quitting, so my parents would just pull me from activities. let your kids rest please.
That trophy room really hits close to home with me. I’ve played competitive golf since I was 7, and I had ~250 medals hanging up in my room prior to going to college. Until I was about 15, my dream had always been to go pro. I played 3-4 hours a day and got to a point of being #1 in my state for my age. I realised after accomplishing that, that I was super burnt out. Haven’t really recovered since then. I definitely was living out my dad’s dream to some extent, since he had won a state amateur but never went pro.
The pale skin and dark circles around the eyes of both Andrew and Jayson are all you need to know about how intense their gaming addiction is. I have a niece and 2 nephews who do nothing but game and they look like that. It's really scary because they are inside 100% of the time and don't see any sunlight, let alone eat fruits, veggies or anything that isn't frozen or fast food.
yea lets pretend it's "just" the gaming, and not their entire lifestyle. chips and nuggies for dinner, how is anyone supposed to look healthy eating that?
The dad's eyelids look greasy while the rest of his face looked ok. I also had that problem for a long time. Turns out you are supposed to wash around around your eyes, too. Really reduces the appearance of undereye darkness.
the concessions thing is very real. if your kids do sports, especially at a public high school, parents are often asked to do everything from organize events, run concessions, do fundraising efforts, and in some cases even do admin stuff for the team (like finances).
I went to private schools my whole life and the onus was always placed on the parents and the students for stuff like this. I ran the concessions in 6th grade lol and we always had to bring stuff to sell
@kpoppy9635 OSU (the college) arranges deals for public high school sports teams to assemble the chairs in their stadium. it was a requirement for parents and students to do it several times a semester. in my case, my siblings played, but i had to do it in their place.
My parents did this in the late 2000s, and both my sisters were in band. Bands a pretty big deal in Texas and the south, but they ran concessions and drove kids home.

@@jurgnobs1308Crazy how these reality TV shows can be the fakest thing ever but also super real. Here in the US we used to have a show about cops. You'd imagine everything was scripted and that all the criminals getting arrested were paid actors, but no. They had to cancel the show because in of the episodes the things got out of control and the guy holding the mic was shot BY THE POLICE and he passed away. The man recording the whole thing was HIS BROTHER and in the footage you can see how he rushes to help him and starts to break down once he realizes his brother was gone. IIRC, the guy sued the show and the police because they obviously opened fire without any care for the innocent civilians as usual. The suspects were also unarmed. The guy LOST the case. This happened in Salt Lake City if I'm not mistaken.
Someone who's related to Andrew basically said the show played up the situation. He's into gaming, but Jayson is into soccer and plays, and Andrew's invested in the activities Jayson does.
It's really interesting and clearly intentional. You have two different families at opposite ends of the spectrum: one is completely relaxed and lazy, while the other is very strict, uptight, and overactive. This could serve as a perfect example of finding a balance in the middle that could potentially combine the benefits of both sides while addressing their drawbacks. Moderation is key
the wife of the gamers seems like a treasure tbh, she's stepped up to the rules without much complaining and the only thing i didn't really like was her getting rid of all the sports and the trophies, but maybe she viewed sports as an addiction too for those ppl
ofc there's a lack of structure but to me it also seemed she was just a lil too swamped with stuff to do to taking care of 2 kids to fix that. plus maybe a lil low self esteem but that's purely speculation
People need to be addicted to success. Look at her she’s overweight. No structure. No boundaries. Who the fuck wants to be like that. That is what is wrong with most of the people now. They don’t have any discipline. Mediocre is acceptable. Get rid of the trophies? Tell me you’re a loser without saying you are.
I saw getting rid of sports as her trying to make them understand that they don't need to be so stressed over things. They're kids, and sports are supposed to be fun, not anxiety inducing. They were all at a point where skipping even a day made them stress out. So basically, "the world won't end if you take a break". Kids raised like this have to learn how to relax
@@milkyard8431 oh yea they definitly could and should have cut back a bit, but making him miss his most important game of the season is something even those without an addiction would stress about. it's giving the wrong lesson with the right intent
I wouldn't call either set of parents abusive in this one. Obviously the son loves baseball. The mom is just pushing her kids a little to hard but its out of love.
That was really nasty for that mom to take away all sports. She should have asked them if they enjoyed sports or there were other things they'd like to do. They can be involved in sports but not have the focus on being #1 every time. Why didn't the other mom get the kid back involved with karate which he already seemed to enjoy and make the dad take him and support him there.
I mean part of it is the show does have to make the rules overly dramatic usually to make for good tv and the 'point' which honestly is seen in most eps because we see after he also get happy thus 'learned the lesson' too. Very much in reality it'd be a dumb rule and something good to talk about or figure out a way to balance relaxing time and sports but I wouldn't over think what the other mom did either.
feels like a director had influence there to make conflict, cause otherwise I feel like that family would have been very relaxed and would just be about adding some freetime instead of drama and crying and conflict like the directors probs wanted
Having regimented things for your kids can actually be really good to give them structure and a template to succeed. But you cannot go over board they need time to explore themselves and be kids also cant force them into something specific they may not be interested in.
The reason they have so many trophies is because they participate in so many things that give out trophies. And the parents are the coaches, looking for tournaments etc. that give out as many trophies, ribbons as possible. It's how they measure their worth.

I was a gamer kid. A wise old Marine uncle gave me the greatest advice anyone could have back then. He was visiting and popped in my room to say hi and saw me playing COD. He asked me if I liked the characters I played and if I respected them. Of couse I said yes, then he points at the screen and says: "If you wanna do cool guy stuff like that, you better start working out more than playing games. You don't become that by playing games." He gave me the advice and left it up to me to decide what I wanted in life and what I was willing to give to get it. He also told me another time, you don't lose till you stop trying. He was a great male figure in my life that lacked a father. So anyway I did serve in the Army and after all I wouldn't change a thing about it except maybe a couple situations I could've handled better. I still play games occasionally but its rare. Kids need balance. They need to be challenged, but they need to be nurtured. They need structure, but they also need room for self expression and the formation of their individual identity. You can't just assume a kid can wait until they're out of the house to start developing who they are and what their values and interests are. Leisure time and rest are as important as diligence and ambition. Nobody ever said striking this balance was easy, but it's essential to approach the task with love and an open mind. Anyone remember the wife swap where one of the sons ended up murdering the whole family a few years later after the show. And if you watch the episode, there is absolutely all these little tells where you see he isnt happy. And ironically the kid came from a strict household. So imagine that.
@thisisvoided it was a conservative rural Christian family that switched with a mom who supported her wannabe rapper sons. I saw the episode and learned about it a few years later.
He didn't murder his entire family, but he did kill his mother & younger brother while also attempting suicide (he shot himself once police arrived and thanks to the EMT's & multiple surgeries afterwards he's still alive). Jacob claims to have no memory as to why he shot & killed his mother and younger brother, which may be true considering the injuries he sustained during his self-inflicted shooting.
I noticed that too! I was happily surprised by that

I think that is the overall failing for the parents in this episode (besides the video gamer dad who is just a man child)
It's funny because my husband and I are both video gamers but we take turns serving the other "gamer gremlin" 🤣
I completely agree, and from how the sports mother was talking about showing love, it seems like she only shows her kids anything positive when they're winning. The husband even says that she specifically has a hard time showing it. Those girls need room to stretch their wings or they're gonna be screwed once they get out there after their big burnout.
Honestly the gamer mom making an effort for them to all do goofy stuff is awesome. For some reason, everything feels all serious
the “you quit once you quit everything” mentality actually kept me out of activities. if i was tired one week and needed a week off i had to either be sick or quitting, so my parents would just pull me from activities. let your kids rest please.
Yep. One night I was too sick to practice and Dad canceled my piano lessons for good.

I guess she wanted to show that they could live without it. 🤷
People need to be addicted to success. Look at her she’s overweight. No structure. No boundaries. Who the fuck wants to be like that. That is what is wrong with most of the people now. I saw getting rid of sports as her trying to make them understand that they don't need to be so stressed over things. They're kids, and sports are supposed to be fun, not anxiety inducing. feels like a director had influence there to make conflict, cause otherwise I feel like that family would have been very relaxed and would just be about adding some freetime instead of drama and crying and conflict like the directors probs wanted
I guess just to show that a week wouldn't change anything and the world wouldn't end because you lost. Buts that's a stretch
What is the point of doing sports? If you’re not trying to be the best? Maybe that’s why there’s so many mediocre players
Having regimented things for your kids can actually be really good to give them structure and a template to succeed. But you cannot go over board they need time to explore themselves and be kids also cant force them into something specific they may not be interested in.
Yet every professional in the field disagrees, but what do those nerds know 😂
@@99Plastics did you even read what I posted lol.

I REALLY NEED savage edit compilations of the wife swap Narrator 😂😂
The reason they have so many trophies is because they participate in so many things that give out trophies. And the parents are the coaches, looking for tournaments etc. that give out as many trophies, ribbons as possible. It's how they measure their worth.
I hope Tammy realized that she saved Lyn’s family! And Lyn saved Tammy’s family! But Tammy was like a guardian angel to Lyn! Maybe saved some lives and marriages!
The strict father has some strong Ron Swanson vibes
That's the first ever wife swap where I like every single family member from both sides and all are actually good people. Bravo!
Both the dads seem like real losers
the gamer dad was not a good person
@@cybertalkwithdevin debatable. He obviously loves his son but has an extreme addiction. Hopefully he continued to get help for it.
Another comment mentioned it the dad was not nearly as messy IRL and was very dedicated to his son.
@@littleferrhis yeah that's kind of what I figured to. Plus his funny personality was very warm and loving even when he was arguing. I'd say overall that appears to be a pretty good person. And not some scene out of south park when they get addicted to world of Warcraft.
That gaming dad... heeeeee is just squeezing some crocodile tears until he gets in front of that screen again.
26:54 wait.. I thought HE was the coach 😂
"nununununnunununo no no" "Don't be a child" is not something I thought I would hear be said in nearly the same breath by someone today but here we are. It's so hilarious how contrasting the families are yet they somehow basically act the exact same way.
huh? they were very different and Tammy learned something. Andrew was an ass the whole time
I think she said that because he plugged his ears
The person in the live chat saying 'they are literally just autistic af' about the computer family got it spot on lol
I agree completely
About the kids being forced to do sports; I quit cross country in highschool for a few months and aside from just being a nice break from the schedule and physical stress of a sport like that, i rejoined, mostly just to be hanging out with the team again. It was important for me to choose that though i think.
I think this is one of the best episodes ever and accomplishes exactly what it's supposed to do.
"last of us joel-coded" made me burst out laughing for some reason.
This was a great episode. Both families are extremes of what a family needs. And both wives pull them back towards the center, and balancing building responsibility and enjoying life and being a family. I hope they both worked out T_T
It's refreshing to see a young man who doesn't dry reach and cringe at an older couple being lovey-dovey :) Only just recently discovered this channel and I've loved everything so far :) Bless ♡
As a person with a speech impediment, many times people have asked me where my accent is from and yes this kid has a speech impediment lmao
"It's sad. Cause youre so much more than a piece of metal."
Yes. You're absolutely right. The metal merely represents the hard work and will they put into achieving a goal. Knowing that if you work hard, you can achieve your goals is the true reward.
Sports mom seems like another case of a parent living vicariously through the life of their children. "These are OUR trophies"
Makes sense why this is no longer a show but damn, was it entertaining.
always fake, reality shows evolved since this show.
@@Stinky_Couch_Pickle “reality“
Its wild how many humans used to not understand how these productions worked back then. Hindsight is crazy, but for some people, this shit broke a whole generation of households. If only ten percent of the public saw the raw footage of these shows, i feel we'd all be so much better off.
My mom used to watch Wife Swap and would threaten to go on the show and make sure we got a mean mother if I upset her while she was watching. I just told her “you do know the mothers that think they’re getting a mean version of themselves are often the mean ones getting put in their place, right?” It always shut her up and she never actually did it.
6:45 Basically the plot of One Tree Hill 🤣
I like how Justin is fr with the whole No game No life.😂😂😂
I was a gamer kid. Life takes priority.
Big mood. You gotta find a balance
I don't understand the title? This is the most wholesome episode I've ever seen. Happy for both families at the end of it.
right i was waiting with baited breath for a shoe to drop like a big reveal of one of the couples breaking up or something but this felt very wholesome!
Click bait.
If someone took away sports from me as a kid I'd be absolutely devastated.
That was like my only thing I cared about as a child. It was my fun
Why does your comments make this hilarious? Like some of it is so messed up and i can't stop laughing at your commentary 😂
The irony is that the "gamer" family will be together long after the hardcore discipline family have fallen apart completely. That kind of rigidness is not only unhealthy but destructive within a marriage and family structure.
Watching the gamer family dad AND SON just perpetually sit there with their mouth open... Like dear god I hope it's for the show
Video game dad has social anxiety. His hissy fit about the fundraiser shows that. He didn't forget about the karate, he couldn't bring himself to go to a public thing. In my opinion
Personally, he seems a bit on the spectrum to me. It would explain how much he doesn't like the changing plans and his communication issues.
doesn't excuse being a shit father imo
Social anxiety isn’t real. Excuse liberals came up with
Of all the wife swaps I've watched (not many through reaction videos) this was actually not that bad.
Rekindled marriage and a friend turned father. Good.
21:37 it was at THIS POINT he knew, he'd fucked up.
20:26 you’ve also got to remember that this was before cell phones all had a Calendar app for your appointments.. 😬 that could’ve been the only place they had those doctor appointments listed 😅 oof
There is NO possible way the Gamer Dad is real, I'm 85% certain he's just a crack addict that they picked up off the street.
I think he's on the spectrum
@@danielleburke87 I dunno man, me and my friend are Autistic and have Asperger's and we're NOTHING like that. I mean, we're DEFINITELY lazy and love to play games but neither of us have a child we only talk to through games and we still agree to do chores around the house. Hell, my friend with Asperger's goes to the GYM!
@@danielleburke87I thought so too
@@connerthewubbzler1062people think they know what Autism or AuADHD looks like but they don't. Most high level business and sports people are not neurotypical. ADHD are more likely to be successful in business than neurotypical people.
In fact it is often the "structure at all costs" parents that are undiagnosed rather than the iPad parents.
Wdym he's @m4nymoons uncle!!
I wish therapy worked like it does in TV or movies where one session just fixes you instead of taking like months or years to even admit your problems sometimes.
Perhaps with a program like this and this was a lucky episode..its that extra notch up from regular therapy where ypu are forced to confront things with the planned family swap...ups the game that much more that people are likely to get those crucial insights.
"I have heard your call they are almost demands at this point" no Gunnar they're threats now, do more Wife Swap.
The funniest show commentary I've ever heard . Bravo 😂😂😂
The most upsetting part of this was video game dad ruining the “round of applause” joke by saying “clap all around”
Encourage your kids, challenge them, but love them, and value their minds.
Anyone remember the wife swap where one of the sons ended up murdering the whole family a few years later after the show. And if you watch the episode, there is absolutely all these little tells where you see he isnt happy. And ironically the kid came from a strict household. So imagine that.
whattt
@thisisvoided it was a conservative rural Christian family that switched with a mom who supported her wannabe rapper sons.
I saw the episode and learned about it a few years later.
The Stockdale family murders.
horrific... 🫣
He didn't murder his entire family, but he did kill his mother & younger brother while also attempting suicide (he shot himself once police arrived and thanks to the EMT's & multiple surgeries afterwards he's still alive). His name is Jacob Stockdale and his father along with three older brothers were not involved in the incident.
Jacob claims to have no memory as to why he shot & killed his mother and younger brother, which may be true considering the injuries he sustained during his self-inflicted shooting.
All in all it's a really sad case and I suggest people research it further instead of getting their facts from various RUclips comments (including my own).
It’s awesome that Jayson got to experience a more fun and outdoors life and that the Cody and his sisters got to live a more chill life. Goes to show that the balance can really be restored!
Why does she jump to screaming? She has a good point already 😂
It's nice to see that Mac left Paddy's Pub and got himself a family!
