I love the bucket, and you show that it works! Saw another beekeeper prep the empty frame with rubber bands thus: On one flat side two bands corner to corner to create a support bed for you to lay the comb on; then other bands stretched around top and bottom as you did but pushed to both sides to be able to slide them around comb you are emplacing. Seemed smart.
Thanks! Trying to give my full process so everyone can do this from bee bucket to having honey. If you see anything I left out let me know and I’ll work a video in this year.
@@OkAdventure994 brother my traps are showing very promising signs already!! The bees are scouting each trap consistently and have been showing up every day a little more at a time. I have noticed some dead bees in the traps, so I’m thinking they’re leaving guards overnight🤷🏻♂️. I think I had the traps out MAYBE 3 days and scouts were showing up already. Waxing the interior is key, and the bucket being waterproof, and the bees being able to defend the trap are going to be big factors in the bees staying in the trap. Just my opinion👍🏻

Loving these videos, very helpful for someone like me who wants to start keeping bees next year, so does the Queen go in the Trap with the Swarm when you catch them.
Best part of the year for me is swarm season . I haven't used this type of trap before . Have you caught many with the 5 gallon buckets? It's great your son takes an interest in your hobby as well. Hi from Australia.
Yes I have catch many swarms with this bucket. Last year I had caught two in the same spot and this year I have scouts already checking out the bucket again. Won’t be long and they’ll move on in.
Love the simplicity of this. Do you recommend a queen excluder when transferring to the hive box? As well do you do a mite check after your transfer to hive box?
Next Level Fishing Entertainment I left the trap in the spot where I was going to put the hive for 4 days. I only did that so the bees could know where there hive is the my yard.
i have caught a swarm in my bucket, I just want to move it off the roof of the shed 9ft? high down to the ground on a pallet. Do i have to tape them off and let them sit? it is so close thx
Good question. I would put them in the spot where you would want them to be and release them. You will lose some bees that may go back to where the swarm was caught. You could also leave them in the hive trapped inside for a few days. But I wouldn’t do that unless they have sugar water, pollen patty and some water in the hive with them.
If you have the swarm caught within 5 miles radius you can put them in the hive you want them to. But.... Place a bushy branch in front of the hive entrance. They need to re-oriëntate themselves then even more. Off course you will loose some bees but because of the distraction you will have 90% of the bees staying in the hive
Hi...I did exactly the same ,took bees out back off yard and added them to hive ,however a few hours after I've done that, seems to be a fight and all the bees went haywire ... The next day the whole swarm left and just left all the brood and honey... I can bought maybe it's cos a couldn't see the queen and didn't lock her in queen cage. I see you didn't bother to do that. Will they not leave ?? Mine left over night, was gutted when I got there next day to an empty hive.. What did I do wrong????
@@OkAdventure994 no other hives... I did close the entrance to smaller, and I will bought I'd be ok... But they all left...They can't be to far... I see bees every day..
I have a question. I have 6 humming bird feeders with sugar water in them but the humming birds can't get to 4 of them because they are covered with bees. This has never happened before. How can't I catch these bee and make a hive, or can I ?
As soon as I found the swarm move into the Bee Bucket I take the bucket down. Move it home and put it in the exact spot where I want the hive to be. And I leave it there for a week. Then transfer the hive as shown in the video. If you have a wide open entrance make sure to pinch it back to a 3/4” entrance.
Do you leave them in the bucket with the entrance sealed for one week? And what is the reason for leaving them in the bucket and not transfer immediately?

This is great... 2 questions. Do you need clean wax on the frames or can you use what you painted the bucket? Do you need to clean the bucket after transfer? Awesome site..
I used the same wax that I painted the bucket with. I’ve never cleaned the bucket after transfer. The day I put the bucket back in the field I spray one spray of swarm lure and leave it.
You can build you one from many types of materials. In Oklahoma I have to hive a hive with removable frames for legal reasons. But I’ve seen hives built for just about anything you can think of
After that video that hive ended up filling the 10 frame deep box in a month. Last time I check in December when we had some nice weather there was still bees alive.
Holy crap, this is really incredible. Never knew to use a 5gal bucket and your transfer to a proper hive was so gentle and respectful. Dude. Respect.
Glad you enjoyed it!

this should be done at night. when all bees are back in the bucket.
No this bucket had been in that spot for a week. The bees were orientated to that spot. All foragers moved right into the deep hive body.

Hey just trying to get into the OK Bee keeping hobby. Can you tell me where to buy some used hives? Thanks man.
Not sure where to find used equipment. Best bet is to che k Facebook groups or Craigslist
Do you add water when you melt your wax? I melted down some comb scraps and it was real thick.
Yes I add about 2 inches of water
What is in the water and what is the food you're feeding on top
Sugar syrup and pollen pattie
After you put them in the hive, do you treat for mites?
how ofter do you catch swarm with this kind of trap?
so what do you put in the bucket to attract them?
Swarm lure or lemon grass oil
great video. what are the brown bars you lay on the hive at approx 12:30 into the video?
Pollen patty cut into strips
Liked your video. It would help when you use terms like cold or warm you would give us the temp
That's neat. You ever had those bees marching for you?
Yessir
Great video. The bees were fairly docile. Have you ever caught an aggressive swarm? What do you do with them?
Yes I have. I will do a combine with another hive after dispatching the aggressive queen or try to do a requeen.
When is best time for me to start laying the traps out?
If your not sure of your swarm season put them out when the trees first start to bloom and leave them tell the leaves fall off.
I am watching this video after catching my first swarm.
When is the best time time to move them?
Wait tell you see a good amount of pollen coming inside. I normally just wait a week then pull the buckets on the next check.
