Mizuki's gender is said to be nothing in the game, so don't trust the replies because Mizuki is not canonly trans, I do head canon mizuki as a femboy, but I'll use they/ them to avoid conflicts. In their story, it was said that mizuki was born with a feminine body and voice, this is why they were getting bullied in middle school, but since they started wearing the way they like, stuff like feminine fashion, it was more shown that they look like a girl more and more, and for me I think it is just Mizuki's desires, just to let you know, looking like a girl will not make you one, and it'll not make you trans either, and I think this is what mizuki's story is about, you don't have to think about people when you want to do what makes you happy. Their gender is written as unknown because it is literally the whole point of the stories, it's about Mizuki wanting to ignore the whole gender norm stuff and be the person they always desired to be, we did not know mizuki's original gender as a male till last year or something close, so for me the company is either just making stuff more complicated, or they want to leave the idea itself to us to decide. Either you want to take them as a trans figure or as a femboy figure, or simply as a crossdresser it is your choice till the company make everything confirmed.

In their story, it was said that mizuki was born with a feminine body and voice, this is why they were getting bullied in middle school, but since they started wearing the way they like, stuff like feminine fashion, it was more shown that they look like a girl more and more, and for me I think it is just Mizuki's desires, just to let you know, looking like a girl will not make you one, and it'll not make you trans either, and I think this is what mizuki's story is about, you don't have to think about people when you want to do what makes you happy. Their gender is written as unknown because it is literally the whole point of the stories, it's about Mizuki wanting to ignore the whole gender norm stuff and be the person they always desired to be, we did not know mizuki's original gender as a male till last year or something close, so for me the company is either just making stuff more complicated, or they want to leave the idea itself to us to decide. Either you want to take them as a trans figure or as a femboy figure, or simply as a crossdresser it is your choice till the company make everything confirmed.

I'm just gonna go with the transfem headcanon because that one shows to be the actual closest thing to where the story is going as if now.
They are assigned a gender at birth that quite literally makes them depressed beyond comprihension and they could never truly fit in with this assigned gender in any shape or form. Literally take a look at any story that shows them in those earlier years, and there's just absolutely no sign of enjoying being like "that".
And that they've only truly grown comfortable with others, and comfortable with being more social, when they stopped being like that. When they stopped presenting themselves as a man. And at that point, is it REALLY pretending to be something you aren't? I don't know but Mizuki's personality in the higschool stories always seem a lot more like themselves than in flashbacks. There's no pretending about that.
