Because you're adding a negative number to a positive number, which is the same as subtracting the numbers. For example, -3+8 is the same as 8-3. All I did was just put the positive 8 at the front. Another clear way to see it is the use of a number line, negative means moving to the left, and positive means moving right on the number line. I'll make another video in the summer on the topic.
