I went to a Hokusai retrospective a couple years back that had every single one of his prints in chronological order. The volume and quality of the work was amazing and you could clearly see the development of his style over the course of his extremely long career. They had two Wave of Kanagawa prints side by side, which was really striking because you could see the difference in color and even the density of background gradient. Western prints of the era had to be exactly the same in order to be considered an edition, so the more wabi-sabi approach was refreshing.

Yeah it's so cool, I think they're meant to be scenes of everyday life but with the omnipresent Mount Fuji in the background
