Here goes: Riley and her parents were on their way to their hotel that night on vacation. While driving tho, they crashed into another car, and Riley looses consciousness in the process. The accident was so severe however that it was only a matter of time before Riley would succumb to her injuries after the crash. Meanwhile in her mind, Slimy black scum with the words ‘doom’ starts rising around headquarters. It breaks through the glass, spreading across the floor and reaching to grab the emotions with its sticky black tentacles. This indicates that Riley is running out of time to live, and the only thing the emotions can do is pray for a miracle. All the emotions try to escape, but it was no use. There was no escape from the doom. All the emotions end up swallowed up by the black scum. All hope seemed lost until Anxiety takes Ennui’s phone and plays a familiar song in her head. It plays as Anxiety takes her last breath, and there was nothing left but an empty control room full of black smudge, all while the song continues to play; in the hopes that maybe, just MAYBE it’s not the end for them after all.
The fact Trauma had to Dodge implies that enough anger can geniunely outpower trauma. WHICH makes sense. Anger is the only human emotion that can outpower fear or anixety.
That's not entirely true. Joy can overpower fear and anxiety, even in the darkest of times. To quote a famous character: "Happiness can be found even in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light."
Fear being the one responsible for ‘the black-out’ made my heart ache. Usually in traumatic experiences, when you try to recall what happened it’s all just- blank. It’s like a black hole intervening in your memory. It’s such a cool detail
Just the *look* on Fear’s face. Of any of Riley’s emotions he has been the only one to assume the absolute worst. Grabbing that control to spare her the moment of impact might very well have been the last thing any of them will ever do for her. And Fear *gets* that.
I like how the darkness encroaching upon HQ could represent *Dissociatve Amnesia* , a protective mechanism deployed by the _brain_ to help an individual cope with highly traumatic events. When Dissociative Amnesia is brought on by a traumatic experience, your brain blocks out memories of said experience as a means of coping. Often times, the memory or memories of said experience are still within the brain, however, the individual cannot access them.
As someone who (I can't ever be certain, but I'm pretty god damn sure) goes through this myself, I'm pretty sure you hit the nail on the head there. It's literally blocking out all the faculties of the brain, and killing off all emotions.
But what about the part where the black goo tries dodging anger? I think it knows that anger can overcome it. I think the black goo can also represent the blackout itself. Since anger (adrenaline) can sometimes overcome blackouts. Also, the emotions here are temporarily being erased, which happens during blackouts. Idk, please tell me if im wrong and where I went wrong
I think I experience this a lot with even the smallest things bc people will ask me like “remember when this bad thing happened? You were there” and I’d be like “no???”

@bats159 it reminds me of that fan art of Anxiety with the fire behind her saying, "This is fine!" 😂😂😂😂 I could imagine trying not to laugh while drawing that XD Poor girl is going to feel so guilty. I can see she her crying as she hugs him, apologizing for not being able to save him when she sees him again. I can see Fear telling her not to beat herself up and that she tried her best. Can't wait for part two! This is so well done!

Typically the last thing someone remembers before they pass out or die is music. Dementia patients that are on their last days can still hum the tune to their favorite song. I love that detail of music right before everything goes black
Ooooh? Hmmmm...I do admit I did the Triple DentGum gag at the end moooore for humor's sake, but many people have been telling me to actually incorporate it into the blackout.
I really love how Fear temporarily becomes locked in place like Anxiety was during Riley's panic attack after he unintentionally causes her to completely mentally shut down. The poor guy has always considered it his duty to keep Riley safe from any perceived danger, I can't imagine how he'd feel knowing he not only failed to save her but ended up causing her such extreme psychological damage that it literally consumes everyone including him. This was a very well written animatic and i'm very much looking forward to seeing where this goes 👍👍👍

I don’t think he failed in keeping her safe from perceived danger, I think the blackout was keeping her safe. Similar to how Sadness automatically made the core memories sad, because Riley was sad. What was about to happen was something Riley or anyone else could not deal with in the moment it happened. So the mind locks itself out or disassociates. Keeping the bad thing at a distance in order to maintain mental health. Doing it often would be a major problem, but in situations like THAT, it’s the only thing the mind can do to help. Fear definitely didn’t mean to cause the blackout, but caused it due to the fact that deep DEEP down he felt that it was necessary.
As someone who’s had too many traumatic experience for a lifetime, the idea of fear being stuck in place blacking out those moments of agony was perfectly portrayed. The idea your brain just goes onto shutdown is just scarily accurate. Amazing storyboard, the way you draw all the characters gives them so much personality
This is interesting! Fear causing a "black out" response which gets characterized as a black flood is really unique!! The interactions here are really on point. Fear getting stuck on the controls like anxiety does in the movie shows that pure panic and being scared for your life in those few seconds before impact. As someone whos been in a crash it truly is just a few seconds but feels like an eternity. To protect you your brain makes you pass out and also just not remember what just transpired! This is very well made, the art, the storytelling, the dialog, everything! And the right amount of comedy thrown in!

My heart beating so fast while watching those black thingy slithering into the HQ, seriously. This is totally gonna be an amazing idea for Pixar (or fan animator), if they want to make an Inside Out standalone animation ✨✨
This could easily be another sequel where they explore trauma and show off a new emotion - survivor's guilt. Our mc goes through a traumatic experience, the gang tries to navigate through said trauma, and tries to process things, while in the background, a giant shadow breaks into HQ. This slimy, icky, and intrusive being known as guilt makes himself at home. The others are confused and ask who he is, and he coyly states, "Hello, everyone. I am Guilt. And as of today, I'm the one in control."

I know nobody died in this, but either way this is unnerving AND in-line with the films, it's so good. It genuinely does feel like something older animated films would throw in that would qualify as childhood PTSD, and the dread of whether or not Riley died lingered in my head as I watched this throughout. Nostalgia may be the way to fix Riley during therapy, Trauma doesn't go away but you learn to live with it. Nostalgia may be the only way to see the memory from a different angle, other than trauma and pain we all We associate with such moments
I can imagine trauma as a new “emotion” that appears after a person experiences a very traumatic event in their life; their appearance mimics the event(s) that caused them to show up in the first place. They wouldn’t know why they’re here but they would cause a lot of pain towards the person unintentionally, messing with what emotion is being portrayed; IE joy could be in control and yet the memory reflects anger or fear. Still a cool representation of trauma though! Bravo! ^^

Riley only hears that song whenever the memory is projected, this was just Anxiety playing a song out loud through the phone more for comedic purposes since this was inspired by Radio sinking in the quicksand in The Brave Little Toaster! I'm genuinely surprised this is all done on paper!! And it's really consistent and charming~ This feels like an actual scene that could fit in the movie. Trauma is a difficult subject to talk about, but the way you portrayed it pairs well with the genre of the movie while still keeping it tense and sinister! I also love how well portrayed the characters are :)

I absolutely love this video and how dark this was without making overkills. The entire storyboard looks like something that could actually appear in inside out, and I really love the fact that you made the characters close enough to their canon selfs. That's actually something I wanted to see. An dark fan-made history without those unnecessary violence, curse words and shock value that some people do

@@bats159 And you know it won't end very well at headquarters, since during the development of Riley's Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), each phase of the disorder would affect the "headquarters" of her emotions in a different way. Since Fear would be the emotion most affected by the trauma. But well... I already want to see what the next parts will be like. :D
Sometimes, when we go through traumatic experiences or moments of high tension, our brain decides to shut down our body so that we don't suffer from the tension. So, we faint.
You can't get rid of trauma but you can cope and grow from it. I can see the trauma easing off but never going away and the other emotions all shaken from it and trying to comfort riley through it.
This is very well done. I’m spooked by how the tar consumed everything. Another thing I noticed was how Fear froze after the crash, which I think is a cool similarly to Anxiety when she freaked out in the movie. Which shows how both fear and anxiety are related.
I am *NOT* gonna lie, as much of a diehard fan I am of the sequel, I seriously didnt even realize the parallel!! What an awesome catch, thanks so much for pointing that out! And thank you so much for the praise ^^

The manual shut off of the screen is extremely true to real life psychology during an event like this. That was when this video hooked me because I wasn’t expecting such an accurate detail put visually.
This was so amazingly done. Ur artstyle is so wonderfully zany while carrying a lilt of the original artstyle of the movie, it makes it so dynamic and fresh while still feeling nicely familiar to the source material. All the interactions and the scene progression is top notch, insanely in-character for not just the emotions but for the movies themselves. This would totally happen I think, it literally feels like smth one of the directors would make and I had to double check that this wasnt some deleted scene or posted by a person who worked on the movie/s. Also Anxiety would TOTALLY be the last one standing, and I absolutely ADORE how u characterized her, it was humorous but completely in touch with her real personality. I feel like sometimes ppl have a hard time characterizing her and fear as uniquely different from eachother, but u rlly nailed it. I love their interactions in this, I was kinda dreading the possibility this would be ship material of them but I'm glad that wasn't in here. Idk I cannot get over the last minute w her talking to herself, it blew my mind actually, did I already say u hit the fucking nail on the head with her personality??? And I rlly felt her panic while also laughing at her manic smile and her "this is fine (it absolutely is not)" attitude. Thank you so much for this food.

I know this is moreso a take on physical + emotional trauma (like accidents where you get injured and it alters how you think during or post-trauma), but god it is so accurate for purely emotional trauma too. Oh my gosh, this is awesome!! I genuinely thought for a moment this was a deleted scene from the movie, riiight before I realized Disney probably wouldn't off their cast into the inky void XD. Everyone here is so in character, especially anxiety and ennui! The art and art style is beautiful too! Man I love storyboards! Their genuinely so well made and impressive, and the in-character reactions of everything. I also love how it's realistic to the topic. I'm also starting Cinematic arts so Storyboarding is a good way to describe and lay out a plan of the scenes and ect!

Yeah this is so real. When it happens one moment you’re oddly aware of everything and think something random like “oh. I’m about to be in a crash. That’s never happened before. New experience to write about” and then it doesn’t happen, there’s only the before and the after.

On watching this multiple times, it actually makes sense that ennui was the first to be captured by the "trauma goo" since boredom was the last emotion she felt before the crash, anf boredom would be the first thing to leave her mind once the crash happened... While anxiety lasted to the very end. Maybe signifying she was anxious to the very end moment of passing out..

This is just so good, the lore about how the emotions woud go trough the trauma, the drawings are so wonderful i coud feel the panic and feeling of fear after failing at protecting riley, the faces the espressions are so good i cant describe it .

Fear freezing up because the thing he's scared of the most came true was a gut wrenching moment.
That frame of him frozen in fear after looking at the black screen was painful for me to draw since I couldnt imagine how terrified he was for Riley
I really love how Fear temporarily becomes locked in place like Anxiety was during Riley's panic attack after he unintentionally causes her to completely mentally shut down. The poor guy has always considered it his duty to keep Riley safe from any perceived danger, I can't imagine how he'd feel knowing he not only failed to save her but ended up causing her such extreme psychological damage that it literally consumes everyone including him.
This was a very well written animatic and i'm very much looking forward to seeing where this goes 👍👍👍

I don’t think he failed in keeping her safe from perceived danger, I think the blackout was keeping her safe. Similar to how Sadness automatically made the core memories sad, because Riley was sad.
What was about to happen was something Riley or anyone else could not deal with in the moment it happened. So the mind locks itself out or disassociates. Keeping the bad thing at a distance in order to maintain mental health. Doing it often would be a major problem, but in situations like THAT, it’s the only thing the mind can do to help. Fear definitely didn’t mean to cause the blackout, but caused it due to the fact that deep DEEP down he felt that it was necessary.
As someone who’s had too many traumatic experience for a lifetime, the idea of fear being stuck in place blacking out those moments of agony was perfectly portrayed. The idea your brain just goes onto shutdown is just scarily accurate. Amazing storyboard, the way you draw all the characters gives them so much personality

This is interesting!
Fear causing a "black out" response which gets characterized as a black flood is really unique!! The interactions here are really on point. Fear getting stuck on the controls like anxiety does in the movie shows that pure panic and being scared for your life in those few seconds before impact. As someone whos been in a crash it truly is just a few seconds but feels like an eternity. To protect you your brain makes you pass out and also just not remember what just transpired!
This is very well made, the art, the storytelling, the dialog, everything! And the right amount of comedy thrown in!
Im so happy I was able to get the "black out in panic" response for trauma in the moment of a cataclysm! Riley saw the headlights but was too late to process what she was even looking at.

This could easily be another sequel where they explore trauma and show off a new emotion - survivor's guilt. Our mc goes through a traumatic experience, the gang tries to navigate through said trauma, and tries to process things, while in the background, a giant shadow breaks into HQ. This slimy, icky, and intrusive being known as guilt makes himself at home. The others are confused and ask who he is, and he coyly states, "Hello, everyone. I am Guilt. And as of today, I'm the one in control."

I know nobody died in this, but either way this is unnerving AND in-line with the films, it's so good. It genuinely does feel like something older animated films would throw in that would qualify as childhood PTSD, and the dread of whether or not Riley died lingered in my head as I watched this throughout. Absolutely stellar.

I can imagine trauma as a new “emotion” that appears after a person experiences a very traumatic event in their life; their appearance mimics the event(s) that caused them to show up in the first place. They wouldn’t know why they’re here but they would cause a lot of pain towards the person unintentionally, messing with what emotion is being portrayed; IE joy could be in control and yet the memory reflects anger or fear.
Still a cool representation of trauma though! Bravo! ^^

This is very well done. I’m spooked by how the tar consumed everything. Another thing I noticed was how Fear froze after the crash, which I think is a cool similarly to Anxiety when she freaked out in the movie. Which shows how both fear and anxiety are related.

This was so amazingly done. Ur artstyle is so wonderfully zany while carrying a lilt of the original artstyle of the movie, it makes it so dynamic and fresh while still feeling nicely familiar to the source material. All the interactions and the scene progression is top notch, insanely in-character for not just the emotions but for the movies themselves. This would totally happen I think, it literally feels like smth one of the directors would make and I had to double check that this wasnt some deleted scene or posted by a person who worked on the movie/s. Also Anxiety would TOTALLY be the last one standing, and I absolutely ADORE how u characterized her, it was humorous but completely in touch with her real personality. I feel like sometimes ppl have a hard time characterizing her and fear as uniquely different from eachother, but u rlly nailed it. I love their interactions in this, I was kinda dreading the possibility this would be ship material of them but I'm glad that wasn't in here. Idk I cannot get over the last minute w her talking to herself, it blew my mind actually, did I already say u hit the fucking nail on the head with her personality??? And I rlly felt her panic while also laughing at her manic smile and her "this is fine (it absolutely is not)" attitude. Thank you so much for this food.
My heart skipped a beat reading such praise, you have no clue how much this motivated me and made my day. I always try my very best to keep everyone in character and it CAN be very hard since I myself am a sucker for schmaltzy stuff and I *did* originally make this to be indulgent XD But I just love writing the Emotions as a protective family rather than playing with shipping, personally. I know this is moreso a take on physical + emotional trauma (like accidents where you get injured and it alters how you think during or post-trauma), but god it is so accurate for purely emotional trauma too.

Yeah this is so real. When it happens one moment you’re oddly aware of everything and think something random like “oh. I’m about to be in a crash. That’s never happened before. New experience to write about” and then it doesn’t happen, there’s only the before and the after.
This is insanely well done. You’ve captured the essence of the movies wonderfully, and your artwork is spectacular! Can’t wait to see what you make next!
On watching this multiple times, it actually makes sense that ennui was the first to be captured by the "trauma goo" since boredom was the last emotion she felt before the crash, anf boredom would be the first thing to leave her mind once the crash happened... While anxiety lasted to the very end. Maybe signifying she was anxious to the very end moment of passing out..

THIS IS INCREDIBLE???????? The attention to detail with the dialogue is impressive!!! Anxiety remembering what Joy told her and Joy's "where I go you go" LIKE HELLO????? And all this being done by paper is mesmerizing oml you absolutely nailed the character's personalities and the traumatic experience itself!!! Also the gum commercial at the end was WICKED. I am in deeply in love with this you're SUPER good!!!!

This is just so good, the lore about how the emotions woud go trough the trauma, the drawings are so wonderful i coud feel the panic and feeling of fear after failing at protecting riley, the faces the espressions are so good i cant describe it .

The black tar will be explained a little more in Part 2, but its not DEATH exactly! It's "trauma tar", slowly beginning to engulf the mind before Riley wakes up from her unfortunate accident.
I loved absolutely EVERYTHING about this! The art is stellar, the characterization is on point, the concept is amazing, the writing, the use of sound just... absolutely beautiful.
