    Very thorough video! Great job in explaining in detail what you did and why - common sense and logic combined with an understanding of what you are doing here helps to make something like this doable with this video. Good tips for the tools you might need from HF as well. Thank you very much!

    Thank you for this video. I purchased the handle from ebay for $28 and surprisingly it was a direct fit on bolts from the handle holes. I only need to cut a hole from the Pilar covers and use one spare nut and two bolts I found at my tool box. Works perfect. Save me from wasting money for the aftermarket that cost $169+. I wish I could post pictures here for everyone but I’m not a tech guy and I’m not sure how. Sorry. Only took me 4 hrs because I don’t have a dremmel and was using drill bits and cutters. Would have taken less time.

      Thank you. It's not that hard to do and you can save $130. Or you can wait months to get it from the company that sells the kit for $190.

    Very nice job - looks great! Personally, I would have used the dremel to carve out the handle's hole location to match the truck's holes - non destructive to the truck this way. Also, you can purchase U nuts that are M6 so you don't have to use an aluminum block.

    • @juliodavid49
      @juliodavid49 2 года назад

      Thanks. Not sure what you mean about being non destructive. I did use a Dremel to make the cut outs. Also the U nut would not have fit on the top bolt position. I had the aluminum, I had the taps and didnt have to wait a week to get them. Thanks for the comment.

      @@juliodavid49 I meant so that you aren't having to drill into the truck itself. Rather, try to relocate the hole in the handle and make it narrower to fit the hole positions in the truck. I found longer bolts at Ace Hardware that fit the top nut and they have the Ubolts there too for the bottom hole. Hope this helps.

    • @juliodavid49
      @juliodavid49 2 года назад

      @@Mrguitarcraze That sounds pretty good. But how did you relocate the hole on the handle and keep the metal piece that is on the handle? I also have to remember to find an Ace hardware around my area. They always have all kinds of stuff you can't find at the big stores.

    • @Mrguitarcraze
      @Mrguitarcraze 2 года назад

      @@juliodavid49 actually, I’m just speculating and haven’t actually done it. I was thinking of using a dremel to move the hole in the handle - carving it out and relocating it. Would take some skill not to mention not sure if there is enough room to move it over. Thanks!

    • @juliodavid49
      @juliodavid49 2 года назад +1

      @@Mrguitarcraze I think it is going to make the handle weaker if you do that. The hole that I made on the upper bracket on the truck does not do any damage or weaken the bracket. Good luck let me know what you did.

Do you know if toyota do the covers driver side for fixe the handle whit out cut the original one...

      @juliodavid49 2 года назад

      Toyota does not sell the whole drivers side grab handle kit. That is why I had to do it the way I did. If your are only missing screws to mount it, you should be able to find them at a local hardware store or an auto parts store. If you paid via PayPal you can contact them and file a complaint and get your money back. Good luck .

    If you could pull off making these in small batches you’d be busy for life! That other company scares me...Im wondering if a spring nut would be an easy answer for the bolts to mount to. That would slide right in to bottom tab. Top one , not sure ...

    • @juliodavid49
      @juliodavid49 3 года назад

      Maybe. The right bracket can accept a clip nut like the one that company sends with its product. But the left one would need a much thinner one like the one I did. Also with the way I did it it doesn't stick out as much like the kit that is sold. I'm happy with it and I didn't have to wait 6 months or more for it.

    What about if the air bag deployed?

    • @juliodavid49
      @juliodavid49 2 года назад +2

      Look at the passenger side handle. Do you think that Toyota would design it so the handle blows out into the passenger face? The handle doesn't detach when the airbag goes off. the airbag is supposed to come out thru the edge of the trim. Do not do this mod if you feel that it will harm you in any way.

      No it doesn't. As a matter of fact, it is thinner than the after market one that is being sold. I did not replace the post cover, so it is pretty much tucked in. I do not even notice it is there when I'm driving.

    Just buy the kit from KTJO. The whole thing just bolts in. Start to finish in 20 minutes. Why do people make things so difficult?

    • @juliodavid49

      I ordered a kit from them (only ones that sell it) in January of this year. Never got any updates from them. I contacted them several times thru email, thru their website in the so called customer service dept. left phone messages and never any response. In April of this year they sent me a tracking number that never worked. They never ever offered to refund my money. Finally I decide to do it myself. I had to contact PayPal to get my money back because they never responded. So that is why I did it. And it only cost $60. And I like doing this type stuff. So that is why I did it.
