I went with the Neo 2. I bought it after receiving 4 different, 2018 Kickrs which all died from several variations of the loud clicking noise plus vibrations in the flywheel. I wanted a silent trainer, and the Neo 2 ticked that box for sure! Love my Neo and I wish I would have purchased it earlier.
Hi, congratulations for the video and the Italian translation, I wanted to better understand the pedaling analysis, does it work on PC and with payment for the app?
Got neo 2, checkt the microcontroller specs and the neo 2 looks to be more future proof as tacx might role out updates making the gap bigger between the neo 1 and 2. So i sold some old stuff laying around the house to make up the €200 price difference.
I was able to pick a Neo1 for 800€ (!!!) when the 2 was announced, some shops were doing crazy discounts. I got mine from a German shop. A no brainer essentially. Fantastic performance and I'm not using the cadence on it, rather the add-on Ant+ cadence sensors on my pedals.
Had a Neo1 for about 18 months now with no issues, just a super efficient trainer. Cannot see any reason to upgrade but still don’t get a Tacx not shipping a cassette. Also, the move to full subscription on their App is poor, upto November there was always a free film or two to select and enjoy! You make no mention that Tavx have also ceased support to TTS4 software.
I am extremely happy with my flux 2, keep wondering tough, do i pull the powercord out when not used? Says enough about the product if thats the only question one has.
There were cadence issues with older firmwares. I’m not sure which version DCR used during his test. I did look at cadence in multiple rides and didn’t see that issue. I just went back to look at some more scenarios and found multiple sections where I went from a steady 85 rpm to over 130 rpm. The neo 2 and cadence sensor were almost spot on.
Thanks for your video. It's really helpful for some of us (like me) who are considering which one fits. I think I'll choose Neo I due to its cost as well as the compatibility with some Campagnolo groups. I understood Neo I doesn't need a freehub for some of them such as Super Record , Record or Chorus, being excluded from this list Veloce and Centaur, but you mentioned you need it for Campagnolo in general. Am I right? As if I should need the body I would probably choose Neo 2
Thanks for watching! It doesn’t say anywhere if it’s compatible or not with these groups and don’t have any to test them. I would reach out to to Tacx directly for compatibility.
@@SmartBikeTrainers Thanks for your reply and help. Indeed, I have been carrying out a deep research to find the most suitable trainer in terms of reality, performance and noise levels , considering both of them as well as Bkool Smart Air or Kinetic R1 but I want to make up my mind soon
First, thanks for all the resources you are putting here! Can you please confirm if the NEO 2 are compatible with Tri bike with horizontal dropout, Felt IA to be specific. Checked Tacx compatibility list but only saw the AR, B and other series. If yes, how difficult is it to mount. There does not seem to be any issue but I could be mistaken. Thanks
I went with NEO2... right choice for future. If budget is a concern, go NEO 1, but whatever you do... go with a NEO instead of any other smart trainer.
Thanks for another quality video, Tariq. Do you have any experience / comments about service or warranty with Tacx in the USA? I know Wahoo has their issues, but they deal with consumers directly and the Tacx policy is to send a trainer back to the dealer for evaluation and they'll determine if it's a warranty issue within 30 days. Doesn't sound so good if there's a problem.
I had one issue with a Tacx trainer recently. The trainer (NEO 1) was well past its 2 years warranty. I submitted a ticket hoping I can get a repair estimate and possibly submit an extended warranty claim through my credit card. Instead they sent me a paid label to ship it back to their US distributer and sent me a brand new one. That was the only time I had to deal with their support and I was very impressed.
Hey Tariq will I have any problems with my bike not fitting on the T2? I am going to look at used one.Oh and cassette,I have an 8 speed cassette on my road bike can I run a 10 speed on the Neo?
Depends on your bike. You will have to look at the NEO specs to see if your bike fit. If you have an 8 speed bike, you will need to use an 8 speed cassette on the NEO.
@@SmartBikeTrainers I guess that would go for a Kickr too? I'm kind of leaning that way after some horror stories about Garmin customer service.Any advice on buying used?
I have the K2 and Neo1. The Neo is excellent BUT has serious flaws not mentioned. These really should have been addressed in the Neo2. 1. In the 32 cog running a compact the virtual wheel slip is just woeful on steeper gradients(like a dodgy wheel on trainer). 2. The unit flops to the right badly requiring shims. Feet adjustability should be mandatory. I honestly don’t believe there’s much between a K4 and Neo2 with the above issues in mind.
yea.. I have the Neo 2 and you have to shim it every time you get on and its a bit different every time. Sometimes you have to adjust mid ride. I could see this leading to injury if someone tries to ride through the tilt on a really hard interval set.
Guys, I am going to buy Taxc, but the question I have: what about if I have elevtronic switch? I‘m afraid I will have each time to programm electronic switch during using Neo? Correct me if I am wrong. Any opinion much approciated.
How come that the KICKR 2018 gives a better "road feel" then the Neo, and I experience that the Neo "breaks" when i freewheel on zwift. Any comments or experience? I have both Kickr 2018 and Neo I
One has a physical flywheel and one is virtual. As for the neo braking. Not sure I understand what you mean there. Does the flywheel stops when going downhill? Do you have the neo plugged in to power?
@@SmartBikeTrainers oh that's good, less parts to worry breaking down. I want to get the neo but the neo 2 is same price now. Are they discontinuing the neo? Was going to pick one up cheaper.

I came across this video after also having 4 different 18 kickrs. Wahoo finally gave me my money back and considering the Neo 2...
I mean electrinic shifting
Yes it should work.
I'm happy with my Neo 1 but expected more from the Neo 2. So I'll wait for the Neo 3 or even 4 ;)
Just curious, what would you like to see in future updates?
@@SmartBikeTrainers a more rocking trainer like the Bkool Smart Air. A little bit more quiet (my neighbours can hear me)
I couldn't agree more. Tacx would of been better off waiting a releasing the 2 with more advancements. I feel no need to upgrade from my Neo 1.
Neo 1 - on sale for me was just fine. :) Sidenote - 3 failed 2018 Kickrs pushed me to the Neo.
same here.... 3 days on N2 and X-finger

I have the Neo 2. Since jun this year. I have 2080 miles on it. It’s the best smart trainer. Using both Tacx vids and Zwift. I love the road feel.

Yes they did move to a full subscription mode. However, you can still use the Neo with other apps and some free options out there.
Because not everyone rides on an 11-speed cassette or a standard cog arrangement or Shimano or SRAM. Best to allow the buyer to decide that
I went from a £120 Trainer that was very loud to the Neo 2 - I'm extremely satisfied with it. It's far better than using the Gym's Wattbike!
I am extremely happy with my flux 2, keep wondering tough, do i pull the powercord out when not used? Says enough about the product if thats the only question one has.
I usually unplug from power with all trainers once I’m done. Find it best to avoid connection issues and let the trainer reset.
If you want to look at cadence, try some max spin outs from a steady cadence, the Neo 2 will be way off, a known problem according to DCR
There were cadence issues with older firmwares. I’m not sure which version DCR used during his test. I did look at cadence in multiple rides and didn’t see that issue.

Interesting, I’ve got latest version and still doing it
+Pantster I’ve seen some users experiencing this. I wonder if it’s something to do with certain units or connections. Do you use BLE or ANT?
BLE, got to try seeing what happens on the Garmin head unit next time I have the neo out
BLE to Apple TV is what I mostly use. Give the Garmin a try and see what happens.

Good luck with your research. If a Campy cassette is what you have, then the R1 won’t work for you. It’s only sram and Shimano compatible.
