- Film & photos from the storm affected FAC Outdoor Championships, held at the AMA Headquarter's beautiful field in Muncie, Indiana on Sept. 26-29, 2024. Even though the event was shortened due to wind & rain, the flyers still got a lot of air time in the days prior to the contest. Filmed by Tom Hallman & Charlie Sauter. Spectacular !!! Thank you very very MUCH for sharing!!!
You are the beauty and elegance of this hobby! We all strive to have our aircraft fly like yours. Hats off again sir!
What a great video Tom, as always, beautiful images. Especially the photos with friends.
Thank you very much for sharing them.
Amazing content. Thanks for sharing!
Wow. Sublime. Thank you.
Oh yes 👍🏻 Gorgeous and thank you for sharing
you're the best!
GREAT, as always!
What fantastic models and beautiful field! I was there a few years ago only because Don Srull had donated one of his larger models to the AMA museum when it was in Reston and I helped him drive it to its new home. Your video brought back so many great memories of that trip. I need to save the date for next year's FAC Outdoor Champs
Maybe next year, Bob? Would enjoy flying with u again. We all miss Don's presence & influence. ❤
Awsome!
Simply awesome 😎
Wonderful! Looks so fun!
Absolutely perfect what a beautiful place to fly
These aircraft are among the most wonderful things I've EVER seen. Here's why: The maxfliart-aircraft remake, refine and redefine a historically recognizable airframe, e.g. Piper Cub or Beech Stagger wing OR aerodynamic conceptual fabrication, e.g. gullwing-shaped wings or cowled radial engine, to make THE most aerodynamic representation of that airplane or aerodynamic thing that EVER existed altogether; much like Plato's idea of an existing perfect concept for everything, these aircraft ARE, for the first time in history, the Platonic ideal of these aircraft and perform uncannily, astoundingly and consistently and look the picture of perfection - each one. That's phenomenal, imho.
But all that pales when I consider the craftsmen, the creators of each and every one of these masterworks; that they work entirely out of the best reasons I know, artist, craftsman, technician and scientist seamlessly combined. These are delightfully brilliant groups of Americans at the forefront of the the most wonderful things in life, which has turned out to be - the American experience - as intended, I think, as we have worked for to get the time to do right, resulting in this - even beyond anything that has happened before in history. Bravo!
Always love your vids,so beautifull and peacefull, love it! God bless from the Netherlands
how wonderful to see !
What a Nice video, thanks a Lot.
Thanks!
That Wanderer sure smashed that chair! "I may look bad, but you should see the other guy!"
I wasn't there on Wednesday so I didn't realize Charlie had come over to Dayton to see "That's All Brother" until I saw him wearing the shirt in this video. It's another great video full of people I know and love.
Sorry the weather wasn't all it could've been, 600 miles is a long way for a truncated event! Everyone on film there did splendidly, Gollywock and Jabberwock seem to turn in real performance every time. I think the choice of a Vickers Vimy is a brave one, such a rangy bird, I mean the motors are almost suspended there!
Great to see the Schweizer again, I dialed up the build video for this recently, amazing (and the music is GREAT)..
My thanks to all contributors to this, it was truly an ACE watch.
Nice one Tom! 🌟👍
I drove in from N. Ill on Friday night for the FAC contest on Saturday, which was ultimately canceled. There were still a couple of stalwarts willing to fly, so I joined up with them for a few hours and had the time of my life. We had perfect flying weather for practically 2 months before Helene. I'll be back next year!
FABULOUS!!!🤗😉😎
Gorgeous cloud streets
Excellent.
Very nice Tom. Your Schweizer really din't wanna land! She seemed to hover in defiance! The VV was lovely to look at (did it win?) and both the Staggerwing (a personal fave) and Hurry performed exceptionally. Thanks to you and Charlie for preserving the event for posterity.
🙏🕊🙏
All the way from the WWF incident with the chair to the final run way landing, enjoyed.
Fit for an entry to the Oscars documentary category.
Wonderful storyline made with all the video clips.
Were you a Hollywood Cinematographer in your previous life??
I’ve save this for future viewings.
Again - just mesmerising. If you were to design and build the most efficient, longest flying, best climbing free flyer what would that look like? Perhaps something like a Arcus with power maybe or some sort of spy plane? Perhaps it would not be scale. I wonder if anyone has done a modern scale sailplane for powered free flight?
Hi Tom. I've been watching your videos for a while. Always inspiring and beautiful.
Some models have a landing gear, others not. Does it really make a difference to have one, like protecting the propeller when landing, adding drag and weight ?...
Greetings from France.
Thx for the kind words. Wheels up or down depends on the model and event at the contests. For WW2 mass launch events (and 1930s racing events) we can have them up, since it leads to less drag and more duration. For Golden Age civilian and military events (1920-40) they need to be down...although many times, the air is so good, it really doesn't matter. Truthfully, seeing anything circle high above is a treat for all of us.
Is that weather a remnant of Helene?
😮
Yes, I suppose, as the bands were reaching farther north. 😞
I wonder if electronics are no light enough for a radio controlled de thermaliser. Just let it fly, with a panic button for hen it looks like it's disappearing.
Ah yes, watching a metal chair gallop across a field ready to intercept your favourite model! Though it looks like it came off worse. Ha ha!
The chair appeared to be imbedded, and looked as if it had been mowed over a few times. Go figure.
@@maxfliart A six acre field with one tree in it. Whatever you do, you are going to encounter it in some way!
Why drive so far ? Is that just where one goes to fly, like, if you wanted to raise cattle you'd go to texas, or if you wanted to surf you'd go to california...
The AMA headquarters are located there.
I thought my 5-hour drive was too long until I got to the field. Totally worth it.
Well you go where the event is happening. There isn't a better field for a contest like this in the eastern 1/2 of the country. Plus the bonus is the AMA Museum on site, which documents the rich history of model aviation since the early 1900s. Bucket list destination.
