@@BoatBuyersSecretWeapon I'm in Central Texas on Stillhouse Hollow Lake. We have a 2015 Sweetwater 2486 running a 115 Yamaha. With me, my wife and our 6 yo on the boat we topped out at 24.7 MPH WOT (via GPS) prior to having the HydroFin system installed. Now we're topping out at 33.4 MPH WOT! We recently went out with with 7 adults and 3 little ones on the boat and we were running about 23 MPH. I've not measured fuel efficiency, however, there's no way it couldn't be improved with the reduced drag of having the pontoons out of the water at faster speeds. There is a bit of a learning curve and a different feel of the boat after having them installed but fiddling with the trim and just out playing with the boat, I was able to fine tune it after a couple trips out. After having them installed, they had to relocate a couple of the guides on the trailer further to the front and remove a small section of the toon skids from the trailer (I opted to have the system mounted a bit lower to maximize lift).
Do you have any concerns with debris impacts? Are you still able to sort of "beach" the pontoon in those sandy coves? Im debating adding these to my budget when I rebuild my Bentley 240 but just kinda worried about some of the potential damage you can do to it.
This seems like a neat item! Seems very easy to damage the fins. One bump and the physics of how the work will be knocked out of whack. Shallow water, trailering, boat lift, underwater log.
Great video. My loaded top end is about 22 (24' 115hp) and would like to go faster, but I spend 95% of my time between no wake and 15 mph. What would this do to fuel economy in that range? I assume the drag at no wake speed would make it worse, but maybe I'm wrong.
I really hope none of the manufacturers sign an exclusivity agreement with Hydrofin. It would be _GREAT_ if it was an option with all of the 'toon builders as well as an add-on to those who already own a pontoon type boat. You said it was about $3k-$4k to add to an existing boat, that would be a reasonable option to a new build. This would definitely be an option I'd check off if I was to order a new pontoon. . Hmm, wonder if it would give the same benefits if it was on a pontoon based HOUSEBOAT
I've got an 18.5' smokercraft with a 40hp. Tops out at a BLISTERING 17mph!! (I think Micheal Phelps can outside my boat!) I'm guessing she is about 2500-3klbs In weight. Would this product be worthwhile in my case? Oddly the boat us only rated to handke a 50hp. Despite that I've been considering 60 and 75hp options. Which route would be better?

Jason installed one of the first Beta Tritoon models on my 22' Landau with a 150 merc at Lake Texoma last July. The speed test before the install was almost 29 mph with 3 adults on the boat. After the install we saw an improvement to 37.5 mph. The biggest improvement was the wash or splash that I was getting in the boat prior to the install and this went away with the additional lift. The following weekends we loaded the boat with 8 people and still managed a 30 mph top end and a very nice cruise speed of 25 mph. This also dramatically reduced the chop on the lake and made a smoother ride. After I dropped everyone off I ran the boat up to 40 mph which was an improvement from a prior top speed of 32-33 mph. I understand that Hydrofin now has an improved version of the Tritoon model. I'm very interested in seeing the test results of this. I'm happy with mine but if they get another 5-10 percent improvement, I may have to upgrade.
Well, both Aquila and Hysucat have shown it works on small-mid-sized catamarans, it'll be interesting to see how well it will work on a pontoon. The most likely issue I can see off the top of my head is going to be water-weeds causing added drag since 'toons are _usually_ used in much shallower and stiller water than the cats I mentioned.
Great video and and a really interesting product. You were running a 150 ha. What would be the difference in handling, speed, and smoothness with a 115 ha. Will it trim out to deliver similar results?
Talked to the guys at Hydrofin yesterday about a purchase and install. I’m about 90% there, but was wondering about the “sports car” active driving you mention in the video. I’ve driven boats of all kinds my whole life, I’m sure I can adjust. My wife is not a seasoned driver, so I worry that she might not know how to adjust ( speed-trim-banking-steering ) in a bad situation. What do you think? Also, any “pull” with straight steering? Our toon will run straight as an arrow for miles at 5000-6000 rpm, hardly even needing to touch the wheel. Does it make you uncomfortable where you can’t relax in the driver’s seat? Thank you.
In order for flight to take place, you need 2 things, lift and thrust. The lift is being provided by the hydroplanes and those engines/props are taking care of the thrust. When that pontoon boat comes up out of the water like that, you are flying.
I ran my pontoon at smiths mountain lake Virginia this week. Boat ran great but definitely not fast enough to clear that lake in reasonable time. There is a lot of debris and logs floating at some Points. How strong do you think the fins are? I know you said they had a shear pin.
That seems awesome. Did they mention if the prop should be changed to get the increase in speed so you don’t red line the engine? By the video looks as if the drag is definitely reduced to increase speed. It also appears the boat wake is drastically reduced in the video.
What happens if your flying the toons and there is a big weight shift. My kids and their friends tend to move around the boat in a pack and without warning.

Will the hydro fin work for a 5000-6000 pound fiberglass trihull or is there a better solution for that size boat?
