Excellent documentary, a few days ago I received some cistus creticus resin and the aroma is so beautiful that I was so intrigued by its origin and I finally found this documentary. Un Saludo desde Mexico!!
Thank you for this video. I found it looking up the items used in Biblical incense. It was very well done. It seemed that some of the video was from the 1980's. I hope now that they have found the answer to the property's value to them. Yes it is hard work to harvest the plant, but they don't have to till soil, plant seeds, fertilize, etc, before harvest, and then nor do they have to turn the soil over after harvest like we do here in southeastern NC USA with our corn, soybeans & tobacco each year. Our land is very flat coastal plain. So, it seems to me that God has blessed them very richly with a marvelous plant that keeps them healthy and strong for harvesting it, and provides their families with a quality life. They are living as God intended mankind to live - in harmony with what God has given them, that by working the plants, they can share by selling its resin to the rest of the world. I can't see how it could be harvested any other way. To go in there with a machine would crush the plant. It was a beautiful story. The only thing I would consider suggesting to them would be to not ask their govt to form a commission for them, but to do it themselves. They could send their elders on trips to places where it is used, and see how much its apparent value is, and then come back to their villages and decide for themselves what price they think it's worth.
Thank you for your comment. Unfortunately not much has changed since 2013 when this documentary was screened. We don' t seem to appreciate the treasures of Cretan Land, nor can we turn them into dvelopment. Still I keep my hope.

My limited greek just allows for a light understanding but the heart warms with the images and accent of Kretan peoples. Άλλο το λάβδανο και άλλο το λάβδαμο. Το Laudanum ήταν ένα βάμμα οπίου που περιέχει περίπου 10% σε σκόνη οπίου κατά βάρος (το ισοδύναμο 1% μορφίνης). Κοκκινωπό καφέ και εξαιρετικά πικρό, το λάβδαμο περιέχει σχεδόν όλα τα αλκαλοειδή του οπίου, συμπεριλαμβανομένης της μορφίνης και της κωδεΐνης.

φαρμακο ναι, οπιοειδες δεν γνωρίζω.
