This looks like cheapest, pet proof, multi functional trap I've ever seen. Could use it inside, like attic I'd tie a string to grab it easy, outside pet protected, nail it anywhere, add multiple feeding inside and just chuck whole darn thing out and have another one ready. AWESOME :)

Use the blade only to start a cut, or use the sharp point of the scissors to start. Be very careful not to cut your finger or jugular vein. Use scissors to finish all of the cuts, it leaves far fewer sharp bits of metal to injure yourself. Using a razor sharp blade on an object which is hard to hold is a recipe for blood loss.
Also, if the small end of the funnel is opened a little more, the rat will be less suspicious. It may also work quite well to use the funnel shaped neck of a plastic soda bottle instead of a aluminium can. The rat or fish runs around in the trap, but because the funnel end protrudes into the container, the rat can't find the way out even though the opening is quite large. This type of trap is used for fish also. Good video, thanks.

Try using oil and soya sauce as a lure. The soya sauce smells are attractive and the oil makes it difficult for them to get a grip on anything to chew their way out.

Ohhhhh yeah, toss some soy base covered electrical wires in there and yeeeehaw.
In my experience, have done a test or two lately... Sugar wins every time. EVERY TIME. Animal cracker, vanilla oreo type thing works great.
Real sugar though. Remember... There was a study done on this with either rats or mice can't remember, anyway, they gave them the choice of highly addictive drugs or ... Oreos if i remember right? Now I'm going to have to go refresh my memory but anyway, rodents chose sugar, i put out 3 different kinds of bait including the store bait right by each other and they chose the cookie every time

After you capture a few mice, you have live mice (at least they will live for a while) in the jug. Your bait may be eaten quickly. How do you eliminate the (some of them live) mice (and probably mouse poo) to re-use? For years I have been using a bucket trap with peanut butter dabbed around a quart plastic pill bottle which is free to rotate on a horizontal shaft over a bucket of water. A ramp helps the mice get up to the top. This is not my invention but it works really well.

    • @dougs7367

I have 4 buckets with tin can and plastic bottle roll with peanut butter, and added other foods. Check everyday and no mice. Not best trap. Use mice traps and green bars are eaten up and catch mice. After 21 bucket days of unsuccessful catch, out they go today. This plastic gallon I'll give it a try. Looks promising :)
