    Just got the blu ray complete series box set of That 70s Show in the mail yesterday,got it to replace my well loved DVD complete series set of this comedic gold. One of my favourite shows of all time. Grew up watching it when it originally aired on Fox and with my DVD set I replaced to blu ray I’ve done countless rewatches of the entire series,so happy to have upgraded the series to blu ray,definitely one series deserving of the blu ray treatment,plus 480p dvds being upgraded to 1080p blu rays you can’t go wrong. Thank you for reading this and I love your videos man.

Sometimes I'll pass That '70s Show when I'm scrolling through the TV channels, and it always looks like garbage in syndication. Whoa, look at that Blu-ray collection! I love the Blu-Ray of shows originally not broadcast in HD, but can be remastered since filmed in 35 mm. Unlike many, I do like if the matting can enable 16x9 such as Seinfeld and early years of "King of Queens." You probably know this already, but you can remaster film but not videotape; e.g. "All in the Family." With 35 mm can actually remaster in 4k which Japan has done with "Columbo" and "Bewitched" for streaming. Watched every episode of Columbo on DVD or Hallmark in HD (although the channel cuts out about ten minutes). Would buy on Blu-Ray but close to $400 (need to get from Japan).

    It's so sad that the rest of the world is denied most of these region A blu-ray releases. As a crazy Mann-fan, I'd kill for an HD version of "Miami Vice", but there doesn't seem to be a label in UK/Europe that properly takes care of this. I'm hearing impaired and rely on subtitles or closed captions when watching TV, or DVDs/blurays, and traditionally Mill Creek's releases don't include either. I have several of Mill Creek's TV show DVD sets and the audio was crisp enough on those releases so that I could still mostly follow the dialog even without subtitles. 'Quantum Leap' was one of my favourite shows when I was younger and when the bluray was released I jumped at buying the collection despite knowing it didn't have subtitles because I was confident I'd still be able to make out the dialog. Boy, was I wrong. I realize Mill Creek is reliant on the video and audio masters the studios provide them with, but the audio on the 'Quantum Leap' bluray collection is so poor with all dialog washed out, I simply cannot hear anything being said. I watched the first few episodes in the collection when I got the set, but might as well have been watching silent films since I couldn't make anything out. Because of that I put the set away and haven't finished it, although I plan to try to get through it eventually, even if I'm not in now rush to do so.
    Again, I understand that Mill Creek is reliant on the elements they're provided with, but it just galls me that in 2020 (or 2017 when the set was released) the studios and DVD/bluray companies are fine with ignoring the significant portion of the audience that's deaf or hard of hearing. It wouldn't take that much space on a bluray disc to put some subtitle tracks.

    • @CerealAtMidnight
      @CerealAtMidnight 4 года назад

      @CerealAtMidnight 4 года назад +2

      The Miami Vice audio issues were resolved mere weeks after the set was released years back, and only affected those who bought the box when it was brand new (like me). Replacement discs were issued almost immediately. I think the picture for Miami Vice looks really good, and miles better than the DVD, which can't handle all that natural film grain. People complain about how grainy and harsh Miami Vice looks, but that's exactly how it was shot and what it's supposed to look like. Grain is inherent in film, and I would prefer it not to be digitally scrubbed away or frozen with DNR. We can agree to disagree about the video quality of the Blu-rays, but I don't see how anyone would recommend 20+ year old technology over a nice, HD Blu-ray set that's been remastered from the original film source. If those DVDs make you happy, that's cool, but I think the Blu-rays are way more cinematic.

      What classic shows would you like to see them put out? And maybe more importantly, what classic TV shows could they put out that you think would have successful sales numbers? They did, after all, just release Charlie's Angels on Blu-ray, which was a HUGE classic TV release. I have no inside knowledge, just my own personal perspective from seeing all the comments and engagement over certain releases, but I suspect 30 Rock and King of Queens sell ten times more sets than Airwolf. From a business point of view, new shows are way more financially profitable than niche shows, and shows like 30 Rock are still being used as pawns in the streaming wars, so their value is huge. I'm still hoping that Mill Creek Entertainment licenses Magnum P.I., The A-Team, and Baywatch.

      Cereal At Midnight I would love to see The A-Team, Night Court, Perfect Strangers, Cheers, Unsolved Mysteries, Werewolf (doubtful on that one), Monsters, Tales From the Darkside, Starsky & Hutch, Welcome Back Kotter, Sledgehammer, The Greatest American Hero, and many other classic shows on blu-ray. I honestly have no idea how they would sell. As for newer shows, I would really like Due South to be on blu-ray. It’s all just down to personal preferences. If someone enjoys things like Mindy Project, King of Queens, & 30 Rock, I am happy for them that they have accessible releases. But to me, Mindy Project & King of Queens were middle of the road, so-so, disposable shows, and I never liked 30-Rock. Oddly enough, even though I don’t find Tina Fey funny, I did enjoy Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt that she produced and will likely look into that blu-ray release eventually.
