I just don't like that they said after the scan you won't feel anything from the radioactive juice, the chose not to mention anything about before when it's being injected into you. What kind of curious about that.
Just got home from mine; had an MRI 2wks ago. The PET scanner is waaay less claustrophobic. The opening is bigger and it's not deep enough to cover the whole body at once. Plus, the big bonus for us claustrophobans😀: if at any time I actually lost it, like we all think we could someday(but never have), I knew I could scramble out of there in 2 seconds, no sweat. So it was no big deal after all. Don't worry. 😁
@@adrenalinejunkie3828 So it takes 25 transatlantic flights for 20 years straight to equal 2 PET scans. When one PET scan would give you 250 flights worth of radiation in the small time it takes to do the test. Pilots have been proven with studies to have double the chance of getting melanoma or other skin cancers. And while skin cancers are mostly survivable, the main danger is the cancer spreading. And the whole comparison you made had nothing to do with my comment. I mentioned that you get 8 years of radiation in minutes from a PET scan.
If your talking about the doctor talking her out of the scanner after the scan no she does not need protection because right after the scan room is not full of radiation btw before you send hate I’m not hating I’m just letting you know if it’s not that then I’ll reply saying something else
24 hrs no sugar. No carbs. No coffee no anything. With a collapsed stomach is the worst. Especially bc trying to eat the level of protein they want is almost impossible due to the above
I did not realize that one is required to keep one's arms raised as shown in this video. I have dislocated my right shoulder several times, and even holding my left arm in this position was extremely stressful and uncomfortable. If they could have let me stretch my arms prior to entering the scanner, it would have been a lot more comfortable. My left arm was shaking for minutes after I exited.
@@firefirefire305you should be allowed to take whatever you need to to stay calm. I always take Ativan before MRI's, but I get a prescription from my doctor beforehand. Just make sure someone is with you to drive you home.

FDG - fluorodeoxyglucose, a sugar-based solution. The cells don't take up the radioactive tracers, they take up the sugar that is coupled with a radioactive marker.
It's just an IV they use to shoot glucose in you. It hurts just like getting a blood test. How much it hurts depends on the skill of the tech doing the procedure.
2:00 they said after the exam you won't feel anything from the radioactive stuff. Didn't say anything about before when they injected into you. Does that hurt.
How, pray-tell would the tracer affect an accompanying pregnant woman or child? Don't think that is an accurate explanation as to why said individuals should not be present.
Because the tracer itself is radioactive, but before we give it to you, it's locked up behind lead. After we administer, then the patient becomes radioactive. If an accompanying family member that is pregnant comes along we urge them to stay away from the patient as a precaution for radiation exposure 😊
@@Paeper_Shredder So what I hear you communicating is that the tracer is so dangerous; it dangerous to the people around you... awesome. And this is gadolinium?
@@robertglidewell9494 It's not "dangerous" it's receiving radiation just like a CT scan, as I said it's just a precaution. Expose as little people as possible. And no, I wasn't referring to any specific tracer.
Great explanation for those of us about to undergo a procedure
Wonderfully quiet when compared to an MRI !

I was waiting for it to start, but it just stays quiet.👍🏻
Thank you I'm waiting to be seen now
Oh I'm happy I found this comment I'm too the same don't like to be close in
Less claustrophobic but you took in 8 years of background radiation.

I was the 1000 like on this video. Really cool technology. Was interesting to watch. Great video
I felt very unwell after this procedure for over a week.
Placebo

How much time we have to sleep inside for tuonge pet scane??

the waiting for the test is long.......
I hope all of you who have had a PET scan are doing well!
I;ll be o.k. as ling as they don't press spin cycle

A quick yet very informative vid, now I know what to expect.

Getting my first PET scan done in 20 minutes.
I hope you’re doing well, James💛
How’d it go?
Hi, I'm getting mine in 24 hours.
Getting mine done Wednesday and I’m so nervous
Getting one on Friday, nervous about it as I have a pacemaker

I was expecting something different from a MRI type of thing.
Very helpful, thank you

Just go for Whole body FDG-PET Scan, it has Good sensitivity and specificity for tumors.

I was given my pet scan fifteen minutes after having been injected. ??? That does not seem right to me?

Very good video
What is in the IV? I'm allergic to the dye when you get a CAT scan
Can this be used to measure inflammation in the brain?
MRI
great representation!
I dont think its apropriate to take your one ipod to the machine then u will have it with radiation too.
It's not an iPod, it's a buzzer/alarm to call the nurse if you start to feel unwell. Earplugs cause the scanner can be noisy.
when checking the brain is the head held in place like it is with a MRI?
yes

How does the machine make the positrons?
Using a positron emitter, ie a tracer that decays by emission of a positron.
I have breast cancer Doctor recommend pert scan
