  • In 1967, eccentric Italian entrepreneur Count Mario Bagno flung open the doors to what he called his "City Of Toys" - the fabulous mountain-top party resort of Consonno, where you could do almost any leisure activity you ever wanted, as well as plenty that you didn't. Tourists flooded in, Italy's biggest stars came to perform, and within a decade, it was closed forever. What happened?

If you enjoy ghost towns, you should definitely visit the Greek island Aegina. In the middle of the island you will find its deserted former capital, Paleochora. Nothing but ruins, except for about thirty perfectly intact tiny churches, all of which are apparently still in use, provided with holy water and icons. It's truly fascinating

I've been many times to Lombardy, yet I've never heard of that resort. However Tim, I think you'd love to know that not far from Bergamo and Calolziocorte there is a village called Crespi d'Adda, developed by an industrialist for its employees.
Keep up the amazing work mate

Name sounds familiar... there was a Crespi firm in my home town, business was on linen and cotton fabric. Shut down around 15 years ago.

Honestly comparing an UNESCO Site (Crespi d'Adda) with a former entertaining place now residing at best Rave parties (Consonno), is definitely off topic commenting.
It's like saying "Oh Crespi D'Adda, never heard of it, but I know Lake Como". Same effect and feeling
Thou, both have been signaled for years on platforms like Atlas Obscura and dozens and dozens of Urbex platforms too (definitely it's amongst the top 10 Urbex places in Italy), so maybe widen up your horizons

My first look at one of your videos, and I find it so refreshing to catch the subtle - and sometimes very blatent - British sarcasm and lack of deference which I so enjoyed during my six years at an English prep. This is in addition to learning of a place of which I'd never heard, despite having been to Milan many times🇰🇪

    • @daphne8406

We had some tourists once who forgot their passports in oslo and were already in bergen when they found out. They would fly home from Bergen the next day so they could not come back to pick them up (7/8hrs travel). We gave the passports to the train driver of the next train going to Bergen and told the tourists when it would arrive at the station. They collected their passports without any problems 🤗 People are quite nice here and will gladly help out when asked (usually 😝)
I also forgot my bag (with wallet and everything in it 😱) on the bus once in Oslo and also got it back from the bus depot without any problem 🤗

@@daphne8406 I was taking the train from Oslo to Bergen but there was track work on the last section so we switched to buses (left it under my seat on the bus). We got dropped off at the bus station and I realized it was missing like 10 mins later. I went to the bus station. They had no clue. I figured it was gone. On a whim, I decided to try the train station. They contacted all of the bus drivers. Found out which bus I had been on. Called the cell phone of the bus driver. He dropped it off at his local train station. I met it at the train station the next morning. As an American, I was amazed. in the US, I would have been done (as it was my brother in laws camera). I love the Nordic countries (wish I could emigrate permanently)

Tim, over the past two years, you've shown some wonderful videos about France, and I think you've also been a great cultural ambassador between France and England. Still, I'm glad to see you were able to get out of the country to take these videos, although it's too bad your video camera was stolen. If you don't mind going back to France to make a video, might you consider the Armistice museum? As a train buff, I think you might want to see the most famous train carriage in all of France----even if it's a replica. Thanks!
