That's the whole movie. No matter how many times I watch it, it's still hilarious...and I can never figure out why. I think because it's so random and monotone.
It's the way nobody reacts. Most movies have a laugh track of sorts where you doing hear it but someone says something funny and the audiences is given time and permission to laugh. Maybe the camera will zoom in a certain way or other characters will make a face. Third movie nobody reacts. It's almost like the line was adlibbed and nobody noticed in post production.
I found this hilarious because this is exactly what an old farmer like that would say. Knew a dozen just like him that have passed on. Brings a smile to my face.
Well you are right because I saw the director interviewed. He said this was just between takes and the old dude was just making small talk with the actors. He said he was a nice old guy but he really talked like this. Didn't even know they were rolling film.
Best part is the old man didn't know they were filming, he really talks like that and was telling a true story about how he found some Shoshone arrowheads
The guy who played Kip said this guy didn’t know the camera was even rolling. This is just how this guy talks. The director liked it so much that he just kept it. It makes this scene so much better!
Lyle would talk and my brain refused to play along. I listened to this over and over trying to turn the sounds he made into words. Finally I remembered subtitles and made the universe right. God bless those arrowheads.
My family and I love this scene and I still laugh at it every time I watch ND, mostly because we know alot of people like Lyle. Never knew what he was saying until I finally had it playing during the holidays last year and the subtitles were on.
To anyone who is from Utah or Idaho...I feel like of all the scenes and of all the characters this little sequence is the most accurate to the area. I found out I was the only person at my job who knew what this guy said, because I grew up around old folk that speak as clear as he does. Some less clear.
It sounds like pig pen to me, but creek bed makes more sense. A pig pen is out on open ground, and the likelihood of finding any arrowheads just sitting out in the open is very low. However finding them when a creek dries up (in the creek bed), is how most of them are actually found. He does not however say "dry."
My cousin and I have been hunting and finding arrowheads for years. I’ve always said this line and he never understood what I was from. I just sent this to him and the planets did align.
I was OBSESSED with this movie when it came out on video... LOL he saying something about "over there in the pig pin the other day I found a couple of sharp pointy Arrowheads"
Not obsessed enough - I was so obsessed I'd regularly watch it with subtitles and the directorial commentary on. Lots of very cool facts in the audio commentary feature throughout the movie! :)
This movie was filmed in Preston, Idaho. I did my sophomore year in high school there so I am familiar with the school in this movie. But there is a Shoshone tribe out of Wyoming as well. In Idaho they pronounce it "sho-shone" while in Wyoming the tribe is called the "sho-shonee". They live on the Wind River reservation, near Lander, Wyoming, where I also lived for a number of years
The fact that I just finished watching behind the scene of this movie and he didn’t even know the camera was on makes this even more of a gem😂😂😂
…hahaha…is that true?..hahah..after all these years, i still lose it..ha
I'm happy to know I'm not the only person in March of 2019 randomly thinking of this line.
Same
Bruh this shit just popped back into my head and I started cracking up when I saw the vid
How about March 2020 haha
I stop my coworker once in a while and say this one
Lol 2020 and Still coming back haha
I'm not sure why I think this is so hilarious but it is.
That's the whole movie. No matter how many times I watch it, it's still hilarious...and I can never figure out why. I think because it's so random and monotone.
How can you not know why. This is pure genius comedy gold. Nailed it
Makes me laugh so hard I cry- and I've seen it many times. Hilarious.
ibbjamin I am happy I am not the only one that thinks this is funny

“Over there in that creek bed I found a couple of Shoshone arrow heads” 😂😂 reminds me of my Grandpa.
Jabez Gill How did you translate that so perfectly
No he says pig pin
It’s less funny when I see the translation!
Is that what he's saying?! 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Thank you!🤣🤣🤣
Pig pen bruh
I found this hilarious because this is exactly what an old farmer like that would say. Knew a dozen just like him that have passed on. Brings a smile to my face.
Yes!!!
Apparently this was him actually just saying that and he didn’t realize they were filming at the time haha
@@ShabazzTBL haha. I believe it. Don't think anyone would know to put that in a script.

Sean Covel, the producer of the movie also shared this story as well.
Did the farmer even know there was a movie being filmed?
@@alexanderwassell1230Yes, he did. There is an interview with him on RUclips.
He actually did find shahonee(I can’t spell) arrowheads in the creek bed
It has been confirmed that 10% of views of this are from me personally. This just never gets old.
He definitely says creek bed or possibly creek bend, but not pig pen. You can tell just by watching his mouth that he says creek though.
So happy there are a few of us in 2023 thinking about this currently lol
Honestly insane. I love you 4 who have liked 😭😂
I used this line when I see people argue and it makes them stop for a sec for no reason
Please tell me you do it where there is no creek bed 😂
@@Chicken_Wing91 yes I do like near downtown or industrial places 😂
RIP Dale. Small part but a great one. You wont be forgotten.
He will be missed
*I LOVE HOW NO ONE EVEN BOTHERED ASKING ABOUT WHAT HE JUST SAID LOL!*
19 years later I still periodically search for this scene 😂
Lyle would talk and my brain refused to play along. I listened to this over and over trying to turn the sounds he made into words. Finally I remembered subtitles and made the universe right. God bless those arrowheads.
LMAOOO This was always one of my favorite lines for some reason. Just so random
@Sanjurō Yojimbō over there down by the creek I found a couple of Shoshone arrowheads
Same
2021 and I still cant forget this. My brother and I would lose our shit everytime we heard this...Lyle is the best kind of Boomer
This was the highlight of the movie.
i quote this all the time
Me and my boss quote napoleon dynamite randomly all the time
His reaction to the egg cocktail is priceless.
First time is always the hardest swallow 😉🤣🤣🤣
That line ties the whole story together.
Honestly, finding Shoshone arrowheads on a farm in the middle of nowhere IS cool as heck.
Having grown up here in Australia on a farm, he speaks the same dialect as many of the farmers I heard as a kid
2020 still 😂😂😂😂😂this scene took me out
Same here I thought about this lart at work today and I kept dying of laughter
it’s my favourite scene but i dot understand what he’s saying 😂
The legend of the Shoshone arrowheads-20 years on.
No I speak Idahoian, its creek bed
I grew up in Wallowa County
It's not creek bed.
It's "crick" bed.
That's why people hear "pig pen"
@@eplamoureux Damn beat me to it
Nope, it’s pig pen

Dammit, he die? I just watched this movie again(after years) a few months ago and was happy to know he was still alive.
Sad
@@ryankennedy161 Yup, just two months ago.
The subtitles on the DVD say "pig pen."
You're correct, it is "pig pen"

“Over there in that dry creek bed, I found a couple of Shoshone arrowheads". Lyle from Napoleon dynamite
without a doubt one of my favorite moments from this great movie. I think about this too often
hmm. i always thought he said "over there is the pig pen where i fell and cut myself on the yellow thing" lol no matter what its funny as hell
january 2021 anyone after thinking of this gem lmk
Rip Dale Critchlow.
He's now finding arrow heads in the big nreek ned up in the sky.
Came here after hearing the sad news. Rest in peace Dale.
RIP dale. Thanks for the laughs as your character Lyle.
He didn't know the camera was rolling which means a moment like this probably happens often. I love that so much!
Only 90's kids will understand
Funniest party about it is, the man ain't even acting.
Using his sandwich as a microphone.
I thought he said "over there at that, pig pen, I found a couple of sharp stony arrowheads"
I just randomly thought of this scene, nice to know it’s on RUclips for future needs
RIP old buddy
Dale, you will be forever a legend! Thank you for your amazing work in this film. RIP Dale Critchlow aka Lyle 🙏🏼❤️😢
The cut to Napoleon looking over to where he’s pointing is hilarious

Every line is so freakin quotable for what😭 the entire movie is such a love letter to the Midwest😂
Well I’m thinking about it during 2020
I'll watch this over and over and over...
Can't find my checkbook, hope you don't mind i pay ya in change 😀
$6
That's like a dollar an hour 🤣
This never gets old!🤣🤣🤣
This was not even scripted. They just kept it, because it highlighted the scene perfectly.

2023 and im out here dying still at this scene amongst many others
Dale is now part of the Shoshone afterlife as an honorary tribe member, talking to the other spirits about their arrowheads he used to find.
November 2022 and here I am with the rest of y'all remembering this guy's funny voice 😂
This is the greatest clip ever!
Sad thing is I knew what he said - I grew up on a farm in the Midwest 😂
this will always be gold
One of the best lines in any movie ever
Anyone else here because of the Yak? Sharp Stoney arrowheads!!
That wise man knew where the Shoshone flint/chert was, bless him.
That egg drink must be epic.
RIP Dale Critchlow.
This isn’t a line in the movie. Dale was sharing an old memory and cameras were rolling. He really talked like this
To this day this is still so damn funny. Lyle is the man!
W for KB
Im pretty sure i worked for this guy today 😂😂😂😂 had to find the clip 😂
Rip Lyle 😭
I have spoken this line so many times for no particular reason and gotten completely dumbfounded looks from people... And I'm proud of it
