Drive-in movie theaters are not only a slice of America, they can be an affordable family night out. For about $20, a family of four can watch two back-to-back feature films at the Silver Moon Drive-In Theater in Lakeland, Fla..
While there were about 4,000 drive-ins in the United States during the 1950s, there are still 330 across the country. Chip Sawyer is a 25-year-old owner of the Silver Moon, which is the oldest in Florida. He is helping to keep a slice of Americana - and one of the last remaining cheap family nights - alive for the next generation.
Here are some tips on how to enjoy the drive-in experience: www.thepennyho...

Still have a drive in here in Virginia. Concerts and pay per view events were shown this past year due to the lack of new movies. It was a good way to get out and enjoy life during the business lockdowns. Wish all small business owners success after being screwed by the government this past year.

Ah, yes, the good ol' drive-in, usually with my girlfriend, was always an affordable and entertaining option. Epic handjo...uh, I mean movies -in the comfort of the cars' reclined seats. Good memories.

I miss Drive-In Movies. On Friday if there was a good movie playing we knew we were going to have a family outing when Mom would have us 4 kids put our pajama's on after school, we'd eat an early supper and Mom would make a pot of coffee, make popcorn with real butter and salt, she'd make enough to fill two large brown grocery bags ( 1 for us kids and one for her and Dad. Dad would put a mattress in the back of our station wagon with blanket's and pillows. Mom would make Kool-Aid in a cooler for us kids, and a thermos of coffee for them and pack a bag with styrofoam cups and napkins and off we go either to the Blue Sky, Pontiac or Miracle Mile Drive-In. Dad would back the station wagon so us kids could watch the cartoon and first movie. Usually my brother's and sister only lasted through half of of the first movie before falling asleep. At intermission my dad would put the lawn chairs he and Mom sat on to watch the movie in the luggage rack and turn the car around so he and Mom could sit in the front seat where it's more comfortable and watch the second movie. I would crawl over the seat and sit beside Mom and watch the second movie. When I got my own license and car, every pay day I would check what's on the drive-in and I would grab my cat, his litter box, a can of cat food and his dish and we'd go to the Drive-in Most of the people who worked there knew my car t and some would bring him a treat. He loved to ride in the Car as long as I was with him. Neat memories

I remember as a kid, the family used to go to the Sunrise Drive-In on Sunrise Highway, in Massapequa Park, Long Island, NY. One of my hobbies these days is putting up Model Train layouts in my basement, and one of my favorite parts of that is I put in a Drive-In Movie Theatre (using a small TV & a VCR/DVD player) Not the same as being at a real Drive-In, but a fun addition to the Train Layout. PS - There are 2 Drive-In movie theatres in my Area (the Wyoming Valley area of Pennsylvania), and I hear they are thinking of building a 3rd one. The only bad thing about a Drive-In in the North East section of the U.S. is that they close up around the end of September, or early October (not a problem for you folks in Florida).

Our local drive in raised prices to $12. Getting a little steep. You do get two movies but hard to stay for two

That's why you need a portable radio.
I have a custom built 2.1 channel stereo surround sound system with built in battery.
I ran this for 11 straight hours at a dusk till Dawn movie fest.
The speakers and the head unit radio are waterproof.
Two 6x9 marine speakers 150 watts RMS/450 watts peak and one 10 inch marine subwoofer 350 watts RMS/1050 watts peak
