I mean, Diablo 2 did this as well, the difference was, the tile system in D2 was randomized between 1-4 sets with 5-6 super rare sets. So out of like 10,000 runs, you could get 1 tile ultra rare tileset. That's why Diablo 2 never gets boring. Even the Tilesets have a drop rate. LOL. D4, it's all static. It's just not the same.

In my mind, I see this as a ‘Spirit Monk’ to help give it an identity based on name, but I think they avoided something like it because of the existing D3 Monk might confuse some people.
The Spiritborn does have something of a psuedo-shield if they use a quarterstaff at least, so there's now two classes with access to a block mechanic. For the Centipede skills, it feels like between the number of AoE explosion effects it looks like it has and the number of pestilent swarms that can spawn that you can spread a lot of damage extremely quickly, and even from playing the Rogue it feels like Poison does more damage at the cost of that damage coming at a delay. It almost feels like the centipede is getting both the poison and shadow imbuements of the rogue at the same time for a number of attacks.
I really want to play this class (hopefully they give us customers a free weekend to try it), but I want to know what else is in the expansion. How much new map? new items? new monsters? new dungeons/dungeon tilesets? Are we getting anything REALLY good, like better socketables or something like the Horadric Cube? How long is the new part of the campaign, on average? Is it just one area, ie: 3 strongholds, one main town, a few small towns, 5-10 dungeons? Class looks fun, although instead of an hour+ video, it'd have been better to just let us see the skill tree in detail and a let's play...
Snakes are coop but generic, they went with centipede for the cultural reference to centipedes balance in life so they could make it both damage over time and healing. I love snakes but centipedes are cool too and definitely fits here better than a snake would.
Wish it was a witch doctor type. By far my favorite class in D3. I love thr DoT gameplay. And I just loved the uniqueness of the class. Throwing spiders at enemies or having a giant pirhana eating enemies was awesoms. Edit: sounds like Centipede might cover my WD desire.
Me personally, i love the triple dart gub sound effect, being able to summon them fetishes and just launching all kind of crap at my foes. If i had to guess which class was stinky, I would say Wizard. Always felt like they were held back.
If you wanted something that would be easily recognizable as a name you could use Headhunter. The Witch Doctor certainly alluded to that going on. I'm just going to call it the Headhunter class myself in my head cause that's what I'm seeing. And really, they could have also used the term Shaman as it's really flexible and just has to do with channeling spirits for power just like Necromancer is for channeling death energy for power.
03:50 They could have named it Spirit Master. Like you know when martial artists become masters of a certain discipline they are called "Master". That would have made the name more descriptive and youll know at a glance what might the class be about.
Thinking about the next class after this from a mechanical standpoint does make sense for some sort of paladin to be next. But think about it this way: what's the most likely next area for an expansion? Xiansai, or Skovos. Can they fit a paladin-type into those? Skovos would probably get us Amazons back, but can Xiansai give us some sort of paladin? Samurai?
Dude, your criticism of the class name is not "petty" as you described it. It's powerful insight into a big part of the reason classic Diablo classes are so iconic. I'm not saying class identity was perfect in D2 (I've got a lot of criticism toward that game), but some of them (like paladin!) had incredible class identity and the name is 100% part of it.
For what it's worth, I agree that Spiritborn ought be less ambiguous though I instantly connect Spirit to D3 Monk with its 1001 gods, though not everyone makes that association /shrug

Let's go! At last my monk itch gonna be scratched.
…monk…I can finally return to Diablo
Guerilla and Centipede or Guerilla and Jaguar sounds like the winner to me
Great overview, I listened to the live reveal, but you present the information even better 😀
I love the Centipede, can’t wait to give it a go
I really want to play this class (hopefully they give us customers a free weekend to try it), but I want to know what else is in the expansion.
Class looks fun, although instead of an hour+ video, it'd have been better to just let us see the skill tree in detail and a let's play...
i actually like this character, fast pace with awesome animals attacks. And the armor and weapon looks cool too.
Finally the rogue has a competition nice
They should have called the centipede a SNAKE
Snakes are coop but generic, they went with centipede for the cultural reference to centipedes balance in life so they could make it both damage over time and healing. I love snakes but centipedes are cool too and definitely fits here better than a snake would.
Take a shot every time he says "ult"
Wish it was a witch doctor type. By far my favorite class in D3. I love thr DoT gameplay. And I just loved the uniqueness of the class. Throwing spiders at enemies or having a giant pirhana eating enemies was awesoms.
Edit: sounds like Centipede might cover my WD desire.
Me personally, i love the triple dart gub sound effect, being able to summon them fetishes and just launching all kind of crap at my foes.
If i had to guess which class was stinky, I would say Wizard. Always felt like they were held back.
As someone who exclusively plays solo, the lantern stronghold sounds incredibly annoying
If you wanted something that would be easily recognizable as a name you could use Headhunter. The Witch Doctor certainly alluded to that going on. I'm just going to call it the Headhunter class myself in my head cause that's what I'm seeing.
And really, they could have also used the term Shaman as it's really flexible and just has to do with channeling spirits for power just like Necromancer is for channeling death energy for power.
my favorite Act in D2, Act 3, the jungle gameplay
03:50 They could have named it Spirit Master. Like you know when martial artists become masters of a certain discipline they are called "Master". That would have made the name more descriptive and youll know at a glance what might the class be about.
Thinking about the next class after this from a mechanical standpoint does make sense for some sort of paladin to be next. But think about it this way: what's the most likely next area for an expansion? Xiansai, or Skovos. Can they fit a paladin-type into those? Skovos would probably get us Amazons back, but can Xiansai give us some sort of paladin? Samurai?
Cyclone armor Druid is the only passive equipped skill I can think of
Guy Fieri over here talking about "Flavor Town"
Honestly it sounds like spiritborn fits my preferred playstyle was thinking of doing a Jaguar eagle combo
Upon release, I mained witch doctor since it seemed like the closest I'd get to necromancer.
i was a Monk main. I can not wait to try this class.
