    This is the second home in which ruclips.net/user/postUgkx0jZ_lGlDVJhDnmagEU8gn47cmfPNlLQU we've replaced our "regular" doorbell with a Ring video doorbell and we really enjoy it. It is very easy to install and it works very well, with a clear picture through the app and good in-home use (we added the chime, which is also easy to install and doesn't require another thought to use).

  • @tinysmallfryskitchen8610
    @tinysmallfryskitchen8610 2 года назад +5

    The problem I have with the blink ecosystem is the batteries, in the uk they are very expensive and no alternatives to the brand supplied with the device. I have three blink cameras that I bought to catch some kids that were throwing eggs at our house, they worked brilliantly, but cost me a small fortune in batteries. I had a Ring doorbell that after four years the lense became foggy but it did the deterrent job, but when they increased increased the subscription to £34 ($42 approx) a year I considered the blink, but also being an Amazon company they suddenly wanted a subscription and Amy cameras would then be involved in a subscription, so I went with the eufy 1080p cost £74 no subscription required. The blink doorbell was released in uk this week at £45,but annual plan is £24,99 for 1 camera, but as I already have 3 cameras that would make it £80 a year WOW! I’ll keep the blink cameras for now and stick with my eufy doorbell, but will likely add more eufy cameras as the blink cams die.

    • @DemCrumblies
      @DemCrumblies  2 года назад

      Hey Tiny Small Fry's Kitchen, thanks for sharing your experience. With the Eufy system, does it include cloud or off-site backups, or do you also have to pay for that feature like with the Blink system? I actually just switched my front doorbell camera to the XTU J7 Plus because I find that I can pull up the camera feed quicker. It also has a built-in rechargeable battery. I just run a USB charging cable from the doorbell into my house and connect the other end to a power bank. The charge doesn't last anywhere as long as on the Blink system, but I live with it because I like being able to pull up my live feed quickly. I'm gonna move my Blink doorbell to my backyard just for motion detection.

    I bought the blink doorbell with the sync module and bought separately and inserted a usb storage because I understood that I could store motion detection etc on the sync unit. Is that not the case? I can't find or figure out on the blink app where to see the storage. It was working but now it's not. 😢

    • @DemCrumblies
      @DemCrumblies  Год назад

      Hi Skippy, yes, if you insert a USB drive into the Sync Module 2, it will capture or record clips that you can review later. If you used to see the storage or clips and now you cannot see it, it could be that the USB Drive is defective, needs to be formatted again in the Blink app, or you need to delete the Sync Module 2 and camera from the app, then add the Sync Module 2 again first, then the camera after. I had this issue before where clips stopped recording before and I had to delete every device from the Blink app and add them back in that order. Let me know how it goes.

      Hey The Shatonian, when I made this video, there was no compatible chime option for this system unless you used an Alexa or Echo device. Hey Ppp, you can do live view if you have either the Sync Module 2 or the Sync Module 2 and a monthly Cloud plan. If you just have the monthly Cloud plan without the Sync Module 2, then it allows show live view when someone rings the doorbell. If Ring lets you pull up live view any time, that already sounds better because with Blink, you must have the Sync Module 2 also to pull up live view whenever you want.

      Hey William, the issue is likely due to the Blink App not having permissions to send notifications on your phone. To fix this on an Android phone, you have to go into Settings -> Notifications -> All Apps, then ensure that the Blink App is allowed to send Notifications. You can also go into Setttings -> Apps, then find the Blink App, tap on it, then tap on Notifications and set it to "Allowed". • @DemCrumblies
      @DemCrumblies  2 года назад +1

      Hey Estrellita, so it depends. Here is the info from Amazon's Blink site:
      Live View: When you receive a Blink Video Doorbell notification, tapping it opens a Live View session with two-way talk, even when you do not have a subscription or USB storage.
      Live Views can only be saved to the cloud with an active Blink Subscription Plan or trial that is included in your purchase.
      So it will record video clips of motion regularly when you're not viewing any live view on the App. However, if you open live view and talk to the person who rang the doorbell, that video and audio call will not be recorded unless you have a monthly blink cloud plan. Let me know if that makes sense, or if you have more questions.

My adhesive came with another product if I remember correctly, so I don't have a brand I can recommend. I think it really helped that I applied it during a warmer month though. If I was to apply adhesive now with cold Winter temperatures outside, the adhesion may not be the best. If it's cold where you are, you might want to warm up the adhesive slightly with a hair dryer, and possibly also warm up the area it will be applied for best results.

      You can run this without any wiring because it takes 2 AA batteries. However, Blink has instructions on their support site and in the manual to wire it to your existing chime. I don't believe it can be powered by wiring, the wiring is only for chime functionality if I remember correctly.

    I plan to install this to monitor my porch and door while I am staying with family in Florida for several days. I'm thinking that the sync module would not benefit me much since I'll not have access to the thumb drive storage. In this case cloud subscription seems best. Correct? Very good job. Well made, clear instructional video.

    • @DemCrumblies
      @DemCrumblies  Год назад +2

      Hi Colin, you're right, the cloud plan will be most beneficial to you if you just need a temporary solution. If it will be your first blink camera, then you will have a free trial. The Sync Module 2 with a USB drive attached will still allow you to access the video files remotely though if you will use the camera long-term. Even though the video files are saved to a USB drive, when you open the Blink app to view recordings, the app will access the files off of the USB drive automatically without you needing to be physically present to interact with the USB drive.
      If you do not want to pay for a cloud plan long-term and will keep the camera on the porch for the foreseeable future, then buying the Sync Module 2 and plugging in a USB drive is still a good idea BUT, you will not be able to record any live view video. For example, if someone rings your doorbell and you answer them on the app by pulling up a video to see them, the Sync Module 2 cannot record that video, only the cloud plan will record the video. In every other circumstance, the Sync Module 2 will record video. Some users who only have the Sync Module 2 will start the native screen recording function on their phone, then they pull up the live view video so that the phone still records. It isn't ideal, but it is a work-around. If you do not want that headache, then the cloud plan is the way to go. I made a video here about the cloud plan vs using the Sync Module 2 if you are interested here: ruclips.net/video/akSBK5Girts/видео.html

      Hi Donna, there could be a few reasons why. Do you have a Cloud plan active right now, or has it expired already?
      1) When you go into the Blink App and tap on the Sync module, then tap on Local Storage, does it show that the Sync Module is connected with a USB drive? There should be a green USB with a checkmark to show it's connected. It should also show how much capacity is used up like 1%, 5%, etc. If you don't see the green checkmark, you may have to unplug the USB drive and plug it back in, then format it.
      Blink also recommends to always add the Sync module first, then add the cameras second. Let me know how it goes.

    • @DemCrumblies
      @DemCrumblies  2 года назад

      @@donnasomogyi7163 Hey Donna, if you never had the USB local recordings working because the Cloud backup was running before, maybe you can try to switch the USB drive to another drive to see if there is some issue with the current USB drive. The replacement drive has to be between 1GB to 256 GB. Once you plug in the replacement USB drive, the app should prompt you to format it before it can record clips to it. If after doing all of that, it still doesn't record, I would consider resetting the entire system by pressing the reset button on both the Sync Module 2 and Video Doorbell and adding it back for the first time. When you add the devices back to the app, you have to add the Sync Module 2 first, add in the USB Drive and format it, then add the Video Doorbell last. If all of that doesn't work, I would contact Amazon directly because perhaps there is an issue with the Sync module. Let me know how it goes.

    • @DemCrumblies
      @DemCrumblies  Год назад

      Hey Nashianna, without a Cloud Plan or the Sync Module 2, you won't be able to watch live view unfortunately. Blink recommends always setting up the Sync Module 2 first, then adding the video doorbell after.
      When you tried to setup the Sync Module 2, did you connect to your WiFi network that has 2.4 Ghz? If you're not sure, that could be part of the problem. The Blink system can only work with 2.4 Ghz WiFi networks, but most modems or routers give either 2.4 Ghz or 5.0 Ghz under the same WiFi name, so you can never be sure which one you are getting. It's a good idea to log into your modem or router and split the WiFi to give out both 2.4 Ghz and 5.0 Ghz. Once you do that, you can try to connect the Sync Module 2 again after you connect to the 2.4 Ghz band.
      There's full steps and information on the Blink site here: support.blinkforhome.com/en_US/add-on-sync-modules/adding-a-sync-module

Since you already have the cameras, you could try to add the Sync Module 2 now and if it doesn't work, then you'd have to delete the cameras from the Blink app and readd them using the QR code located at the rear or underside of them, which can be annoying if they're mounted somewhere high.

      Hey Danerek, when you connect to your WiFi network, do you know if you are connecting to the 2.4 Ghz band or the 5.0 Ghz band? Blink, and most other camera systems only work on the 2.4 Ghz band. A lot of WiFi networks do not split these bands, so it's hard to know which one you are connecting to. I always go into my modem or router settings and make sure to split the WiFi into two separate bands and I label each WiFi network as Wifi 2.4 and Wifi 5.

      Hey Christopher, the Sync Module doesn't come with a USB Flash drive, but they are pretty inexpensive. You can probably one from 2 GB to 256 GB and it will work. If you see a USB 2.0 version, just get that because they are cheaper than USB 3.0 and the Sync Module 2 can only read up to USB 2.0 speeds anyways. You can find lots of options for under $10 to $20 USD. If you need any recommendations let me know, but you may even have USB drives lying around the house.

    OK .. just to verify .. when you set up both the Module and the Doorbell devices, your phone needs to be connected to your router's 2.4ghz wifi band. Correct??
    I also interpret that to mean that my phone will NEED to be connected to my router's 2.4ghz wifi band when accessing live feeds, recordings, etc after the initial set up of the devices.
    Can you confirm?

    • @DemCrumblies

      Hey Phil, yep, when you initially setup the Sync Module 2 and the doorbell, you will need to connect to the 2.4 Ghz WiFi band through the Blink App. However, after the initial setup, you can still access live view, recordings, etc. from any WiFi network or mobile device anywhere in the world. The initial setup is just to pass on the home WiFi details to the Sync Module 2 and the doorbell camera. After that, you can monitor the system from anywhere and any connection.

      OK. I have both 2.4Ghz and 5.0Ghz in the house. I use the 5.0Ghz for all my wifi devices, phone included.
      So, just to verify .. when setting up the Blink devices, I can keep the phone on the 5.0Ghz band but choose the 2.4Ghz band when prompted for their wifi setup in the Blink app. And, once done and the devices are connected without issues, there is no need to flip my phone to the 2.4Ghz band to access live feeds, recordings. Hey Ms. Hunni, that is correct, however you wont be able view live view video and wave it at the same time with the Sync Module 2. So for example, if you get an alert on your phone saying someone is at your front door, and you click the alert to see who it is, the system stops recording video, unfortunately. Some people start screen recording first, then they tap the alert after so qt least you can record your phone screen since Blink won't record the live view video.
