Sean Connery, as James Bond, Clint Eastwood played Dirty Harry are my all-time favorite actors. There were so many memories in those good old days, which I spent all my leisure time and pocket money in those theaters.
@@louisdega5524 Sean Connery was my idol despite he wore a wig and demanded the stuntmen frequently for the dangerous and fighting scenes, I skipped watching his 007 movies after ‘ You only live twice’, but I really appreciated his ‘ The Rock’ in 1996. Alongside with Nicholas Cage. Clint Eastwood was being stolen the show in ‘ The good, the bad and the ugly’ by the outstanding duo Lee Van Cleef and Eli Wallach. And Klaus Kinski in ‘ For a few dollars more’ before that. Glad to see him improved particularly in Dirty Harry Collection.
Mum loved Western movies, horse racing and drinking Cognac, she always mentioned most of the movie stars that I’d never heard when I was under 10, e.g. Christine Kaufmann, Silvana Mangano, Lilian Gish, Katherine Hepburn, Spencer Tracy, Vivien Leigh, Gina Lollobrigida, Ava Gardner, Clark Gable, Gary Cooper, Humphrey Bogart, Kirk Douglas, Stephen Boyd, Robert Mitchum, Harold Lloyd, George Benson, Robert Taylor, Ingrid Bergman, Rock Hudson &…..many many, thank her. * Mum was fluent in spoken Japanese as she worked at ‘ Tokyo Restaurant’ for a long while since 1959 on the roof top of Imperial Hotel TST. One of her long time colleagues was actress Sandra Ng Kwan-Yue’s Mum, widely called ‘Ah Liu’. * I had watched all ( no lies) the above- mentioned movie stars even H. Lloyd and L. Gish’s B&W Silent movies, that I enjoyed all their magnificent performances mostly in the Morning Sessions, at Hollywood, Gala & Mandarin (Kwok Wah) theatre in Hunghom. As I could afford the expenses after my first job at age 12 in 1963.
KMB Student and Adult Monthly Pass were sold on Sai Yeung Choi Street off Nullah Road in the 60’s, at the back of Pioneer Building ( owned by KMB 1933), $18. for adults, and $6. for students with 4 unpunched circles everyday.
‘Bit But Tung’ herbal tea shop, opposite Royal Theatre on Bute Street off Nathan Road. Featured Yellow pea ( Ma dau go)/ coconut curd, Sesame roll, Grass Jelly ( Kwai ling go) drinks included ‘ For Ma Yan’, Chrysanthemum tea, sugar cane juice, sour plum juice ( Suen mui tong), savoury gluten food (Jai) with 3 kinds of flavours, also 24 varieties bitter herbal tea and Sweet Black sesame soup / paste….

A disaster-suspense movie ‘Rollercoaster’ released in the late 70’s, By George Segal, Richard Widmark, Henry Fonda… / And a horror movie ‘The Amusement Park ‘ was also released in the 70’s, a couple years earlier than ‘Rollercoaster’.
That was why I quit dating women when I was young; I have to escort them to watch a movie I don't like and I have to put up with their sobbing besides me for 90 minutes and then later I have to treat them the expensive dinner while they talk about the plot of the damned stupid movie I had endured!

Those second-run United Artists UA films mostly played at Ritz after Gala ( Sun Wah) Theatre initially in the 60-70’s. 007, Beatles, Clint Eastwood’s Cowboy features, but Magnificent 7 was first released at Broadway Theatre in Mongkok.
HAU TAK FOOK Peking & Shanghainese Restaurant, between Royal and Empress Theatre, next to the record shop and Po Sang Yuen Honey, a massive photo of a man with full of bees surrounded his face as beard .
In the 80s to mid 90s, I have been to the Pioneer Center 3-4 dozen times to collect my paychecks because at one point there were at least 7-8 movie companies in that building contracted my works for them! One day, I finally discovered the signature of the accountant are the same on all different movie companies' checks; so my conclusion was; the boss of these companies was the same guy; not those individual movie directors but the chairman of Kowloon Motor Bus Company!!!
In 1968-70, I was an office boy of a garment factory in San Po Kong, and delivered fashion samples to Gordon Industrial Co. which was at 4th or 5th floor of then Pioneer Building, around twice a week, the person I contacted was Mr. Chui ( blow). Then enjoying a movie next door at Royal Theatre and Bit Butt Tung herbal tea and savoury foods afterwards, as I could work freely as long as getting the job done. That’s one of the reasons I had watched so many movies. I should’ve considered myself not a hardworking lad.
It might sound funny, I once invited my friend who was working at the record store that was located at then Pioneer Building, to have supper at Hau Tak Fook Peking and Shanghainese Restaurant just next where he worked, we had the same food with ‘ Assorted Ingredients & thick noodles in soup, that was $1. per serve, huge portions, after the meal, I paid $3. for the bill included $1. tips, the waiter widely opened his eyes surprisingly as I thought we should pay extra for the service, forgive the poor lad with a first job in 1963 for didn’t want being looked down on him.
Almost everyone knows where ROYAL THEATRE ( Lai Sing) was located, (corner Bute Street x Nathan Road).But did you know where was ROYAL CINEMA ( Tai Tze, Prince Edward) situated? >>>>>>>It was on Sai Yeung Choi Street North off Boundary Street, opposite POC ( Police Officers’ Club). Same first English name but the massive different scales between both of them. ( 121 seating capacity of RC), It showed adult films, except the first few years after opening in 1992, closed in 2007, it’s now a bar.
I enjoyed the Intermission ( 20 minutes break) at Royal Theatre in the 60’s during the middle of the long run movies, it’s good to allow the audience to take a break, use restrooms, stretch their legs, and perhaps purchase refreshments, snacks were common but attractive and filled me up easily with pork jerky, popcorns and lollies, while the movies played like ‘ The sound of music’, ‘My fair lady’…., I had to eat or spend less for the following days as spent almost all my savings for consuming there included entrance fee of $4.70. It was such a great feeling once in a while.

Theatres once ‘appeared’ in Mongkok, ROYAL CINEMA ( tai tze), GREAT WORLD, PRINCE’S ( dung lok ), ROYAL THEATRE ( lai sing), EMPRESS ( hoi sing), DYNASTY ( hoover), GALA ( sun wah), BROADWAY, REX ( man wah), VICTORIA, PARAMOUNT, RITZ, HOLLYWOOD, SOUTH CHINA ( nam wah), NEWPORT ( sun po), currently EMPIRE ( kam sing), MONGKOK THEATRE 1931-49.

我1960年由大陸來香港,第一次去戲院睇戲就係去麗聲,睇貓王主演嘅檀島嘻春,雖然 隔咗60幾年,但我都記憶猶新。
第一次永遠最難忘

1950年出生便住在雷生春附近,今天介紹的五間戲院我都熟識,好世界是我入場最多的戲院,東樂,是父母和我入場最多的戲院!内有舞台,父親帶我在此看過兩次脫衣舞,大世界戲院,都是跟外婆和母親看粵語片,麗聲戲院,是我年青時約朋友的熱點,凱星,是我看午夜場最多的戲院,1971至1981年,我駕九巴夜更,收得早時,常到此看午夜場,麗聲和凯聲前身都是九巴車廠。
感謝社長給我昔日回憶。

兒時記得麗聲戲院旁邊有皇宮酒樓,父親假日都和我去飲早茶,兒童節及聖誕節每個兒童顧客都有小玩具一份!

記憶中五十年代廣智戲院放黃飛鴻武打片.油麻地戲院放粵劇片.當時油麻戲院行落少少就係油麻地避風塘.窩打老道條大明渠在此流出海,戲院後面是果欄,果蘭附近好多代寫書信檔.好多媽姐幫趁㗎.

水渠道联合广场,前身是東樂戲院,後期不做粤劇後轉造三級片,完埸後有真人艶舞表演約五分鐘就散塲,當時都很多人捧場,我还是廿歲不到,血氣方剛,又未有三级片管制,可想像我現在的年紀?😂😂

凱聲戲院,是我陪伴家父,一齊看電影,虎、虎、虎;偷襲珍珠港;年份忘記了!有50年吧!看的日子剛好是12月7日那一記念日,他親歷那年戰爭日本淪陷香港,父親看後記憶尤新,瀝瀝在目。

凱聲麗聲兩大戲院都經常和朋友去睇午夜場及首映,而且有時會見到明星同場呢,現在已經成回憶一部份了!!🤔🤔🤔

多謝社長介紹咁多歷史戲院地方,真是唔講唔知,以前細個時候凈係灣仔長大,九龍區極少來到,只知灣仔東方,京都,新京都,南洋,國泰,麗都,香港大舞台,紐約,翡翠,明珠,總統,東城,豪華,新都,百樂,皇后,皇都,碧麗宮,另外灣仔有一間在海皮附近不清楚了,可能有些戲院名說錯,見諒,還有一些忘記名字。
港島也有不少著名戲院,希望有時過去拍攝

社長,其實“麗聲”同”凱聲”“始創”拆晒,起咗而家既始創中心之後…喺入面,以前既凱聲戲院入口個位,曾經短暫(幾年左右)出現過凱聲“迷你”戲院,裏面有兩條院線。 #因為我當年喺其中一條迷你院線度睇鐵達尼號

In the 80s to mid 90s, I have been to the Pioneer Center 3-4 dozen times to collect my paychecks because at one point there were at least 7-8 movie companies in that building contracted my works for them! One day, I finally discovered the signature of the accountant are the same on all different movie companies' checks; so my conclusion was; the boss of these companies was the same guy; not those individual movie directors but the chairman of Kowloon Motor Bus Company!!!
In 1968-70, I was an office boy of a garment factory in San Po Kong, and delivered fashion samples to Gordon Industrial Co. which was at 4th or 5th floor of then Pioneer Building, around twice a week, the person I contacted was Mr. Chui ( blow). Then enjoying a movie next door at Royal Theatre and Bit Butt Tung herbal tea and savoury foods afterwards, as I could work freely as long as getting the job done. That’s one of the reasons I had watched so many movies. I should’ve considered myself not a hardworking lad.
It might sound funny, I once invited my friend who was working at the record store that was located at then Pioneer Building, to have supper at Hau Tak Fook Peking and Shanghainese Restaurant just next where he worked, we had the same food with ‘ Assorted Ingredients & thick noodles in soup, that was $1. per serve, huge portions, after the meal, I paid $3. for the bill included $1. tips, the waiter widely opened his eyes surprisingly as I thought we should pay extra for the service, forgive the poor lad with a first job in 1963 for didn’t want being looked down on him.

Almost everyone knows where ROYAL THEATRE ( Lai Sing) was located, (corner Bute Street x Nathan Road).But did you know where was ROYAL CINEMA ( Tai Tze, Prince Edward) situated? >>>>>>>It was on Sai Yeung Choi Street North off Boundary Street, opposite POC ( Police Officers’ Club). Same first English name but the massive different scales between both of them. ( 121 seating capacity of RC), It showed adult films, except the first few years after opening in 1992, closed in 2007, it’s now a bar.

I enjoyed the Intermission ( 20 minutes break) at Royal Theatre in the 60’s during the middle of the long run movies, it’s good to allow the audience to take a break, use restrooms, stretch their legs, and perhaps purchase refreshments, snacks were common but attractive and filled me up easily with pork jerky, popcorns and lollies, while the movies played like ‘ The sound of music’, ‘My fair lady’…., I had to eat or spend less for the following days as spent almost all my savings for consuming there included entrance fee of $4.70. It was such a great feeling once in a while.
