The sword was a test of will, Its symbolize the will of a person to be a hero, cause the road will be tough and hard and a hero need the will to achieve victory
It’s not really sad unless you focus only on that. It has some really good fights. The story is mainly about coming to terms with the death and creating new connections. It also has a lot of funny moments. Himmel was just OP as hell, so In my eyes him having that sword would have just been wrong. Their entire party was all masters of their craft it’s like level 100s (Hero party) with the best possible gear fighting level 70s (Demon lord) with mid gear.

Agreed, I need more of him. He just seems so sweet and kind, his face and reassuring voice puts my mind at ease.
You get it slowly over the series. I do hope we get a full arc of what he did after frieren leaves though.
