All I can think about when he mentions the “Billions of triangles” is how big the games are gonna be. Can’t wait to only be able to have 2 games installed.
First a highly detailed asset is made. Then a low res version of it. The details of the high resolution model is then baked or projected on to the low resolution model for it to seem like highly detailed but being light on your computer at the same time. This is manually done and is boring and time consuming. Technical term for this is retopology and baking. Unreal now claims to do that for you maybe, which has me super stoked
2020 Hundred Billion Triangles but back to 1080p that just up scales. I hope this is just a re-upload because 1080p at 60fps made this demo unimpressive to me. Edit: Actually not even sure this is at 60fps. And soo much blocking.
Unreal engine 7: we replaced all prisms with dodecahedrons, there is rough a googleplex of dodecahedrons in the first .7 seconds of this 2 second tech demo
IGN doesn't encode their videos correctly either, so it looks even worse watching this great video on their not so great RUclips Channel; GameSpot and other Channels upload this content using correct encoding techniques if you want to watch at superior quality, especially when stuck at 480p.
The year is 2024 - the PS5 has still got no games, and it's planned to be more or less replaced by another console within a year or two. Most current games can barely apply the "PS5 exclusive ray tracing". Meanwhile, the PS4 managed to still play early PS5 games with relative ease. Tech demos are eye candy at best - only dedicated developers and a healthy market can guarantee a console's future.

After gaming for like, 30 years -- I'm simply amazed at where we are in terms of graphics, more so when they've seemingly gone back and simplified things by harnessing the power of the triangle. Pixels, polygons, and now back to triangles.

A simple breakdown: This new tech "Nanite" BASICALLY RENDERS AND SHADES 1 TRIANGLE PER PIXEL. that's why it allows unbelievable dense geometry. it works directly tied to Resolution. So for example the level of detail won't change when you zoom out or zoom in. or now it doesn't matter even if you throw 100 objects with movie-level scans and billions of polygons. UE5 will handle it with no extra work needed. This is a Massive revolution for both game developers and players! not just for the final quality, but for the time and effort it takes to get there.
finally I can make my hot garbage steam games without even bothering to optimise the meshes and textures, thanks Unreal! no seriously though, this demo is sexy af. Just the fact that we can now make billion poly meshes and run just run with them... utterly insane. Let's see if the animation software can catch up with that, so we can get some trillion poly booby physics for our VR games lads

they scan those items with camera and theres nothing mutch made by hand and even that is not hard with sculpting
Not to worry! The assets were all 3D scanned, some were hand made, but not needing to optimize the assets actually saves time and makes it more detail
