I think most people are at least somewhat unfair because they don't take the time to learn the huge differences between dogs and cats. They naturally favor dogs because of their more overt social interaction. And don't give cats a fair chance to understand the cat's differing social cues..

#1, i.e., the last one. I once made the mistake of switching my cats' litter all at once. Never do this. None of my cats would use it. I had to get more of the old cat litter and slowly change it over.
As for whether humans are unfair to cats? That definitely used to be the case, very much, but not anymore. I'm old (65) and I can remember when having a cat as a pet was considered odd and many people out-and-out hated cats. Even in the 1960's and 1970's it was still believed that cats smothered babies in their cribs. Those who did have cats usually kept them outside (also dogs) and only kept them at all to keep the mouse and rat populations down. That's why the old saw was to give a cat a saucer of milk. You never fed a cat, you only gave them milk because if you fed them they would not hunt. As for me, I always had cats and am sort of a cat whisperer. At least, I can always spot them and have often made friends with strange cats. Plus, apart from the mistake with the cat litter, I have always followed all the items mentioned on this list. I could add a few of my own, too. Like what to expect when adopting an adult cat, how to integrate adult cats with other animals, how to bathe a cat with minimal stress to either of you, etc.

I was in the hospital last month for a week and three days. My son informed me that my two cats stopped eating, layed around all day and were extremely depressed. When I got home, they never left my side. I talked with them, gave lots of love and acknowledged everything they did. They love like we love and they are my world!

Had a tomcat a few years back. Shot out the door when I left for work in the morning, and the missus said she wouldn't see him all day. The only time he'd reappear was when I got home, sitting on the garden wall waiting for me. He'd jump down as I got out the car and leapt up into my arms! The one time he spent the day indoors, I got ill and spent the whole day in bed with him perched on top of the duvet. God I miss that cat. He was special, they all are in their own little ways.

I had a lot of cats during my adult life (I am 81 now), twice a stray cat. They were at first not easy to handle, but in the end turned out to be sweet and loving. Depends on how you treat your cat. Just like cats I dislike loud noises, I move quietly and talk in a low voice.

We adopted one of our cats after he was returned to the shelter for compulsively licking his owners.
The idiots didn't realize that he was doing it because they were making him feel insecure and scared, and he was attempting to bond with them so that they would make him feel safe.
He licked me for about a week until he realized that he was safe. He now only gives a couple of licks to say thank you for things I do for him, or to make me feel better when he can tell I'm in pain.

In my opinion it's real easy, if you don't love cats, don't get one! It's a 15 - 20 years responsibility you take on. I took a kitten from a wildcat when i was 17, he was very affectionate but also had a temper, i have scars as memorys from having him for 18 years until he died, but not once would i ever considered leaving him or not loving him because he was the best friend i ever had in my life.

I had a wonderful Maine Coon. I got him at about 8 weeks of age from a shelter. He was so tiny. I had no idea he was a Maine Coon. He was in constant motion for the first two years of his life, driving my downstairs neighbor crazy. But I loved him dearly and eventually he calmed down enough that my older cat could be around him without being annoyed. I could pick him up and carry him like a baby; all 22 lbs of him. Magical Merlin. I miss him many years after he left this world at age 18.

My cat will not use the litter box unless I use Scoop Away litter, which is scented. I adopted her at 10 years old and I’ve had her for 6 years. (I’m also a senior.) Shes very set in her ways, so I try to do things for her exactly the same way every day. Her feeding times are set, twice a day at 8 and 8, scoop the box at least once a day and more if she needs it. I play and snuggle with her whenever she wants. I never wake her up to snuggle, mostly letting her initiate our interactions. And I never, ever yell or raise my voice.
    We absolutely adore each other!

I tried it just to see how he react. I don't think he enjoys it. Just tolerates belly rubs. He is laying parallel to me w/ his belly exposed. But I tried to make his paws dance to music & he's not amused. I don't really want him to be all velcro like. But I do like holding his hand bc idk, it amuses me to think he might think my hooman is weird... She just likes put her fingers on paws & then leave them there for however long. Idrk why but I guess she likes it that way. So, it's just wever. I just do it bc she does ... Also, he actually taught me how to "misbehave" this way tho.

    • @indiathylane2158
      @indiathylane2158 26 days ago

The most vulnerable part of a cat is their belly. As humans walk upright, always exposing their bellies, to cats we're saying "I trust you". Much of the time when a cat rolls over, exposing their tummy, it's to say "I trust you". It's usually _not_ an invitation to touch it. Many cats dislike having it touched.

Always really happy to get home to see my sweet kitty bears. If Ive been to the market, they can expect a small treat and will circle my legs trilling to ask for the treats. I know all the happy little spots to scratch or use the brush. One spot that is apparently a big favorite, is that little depression just in front of the ears, high on the forehead. Gentle strokes there result in immediate purring and closed eyes, very sweet. They know the word"brush" and always meet me on the bed for a full-on group grooming after I have said, "how about a good brushing? They always enjoy it and their coats are sleak and shiney. They typically take a nap after a good grooming. Since each has his own heating pads, they can curl up next to each other at the foot of the bed. Alternatives to anger include one calm word, "no". Along with an alternate activity. But, gentle always, since they are so very perceptive and my boys have tender hearts. I listen for the "trill", I love the sound and it means they are happy and upbeat. I am allergic to them, daily brushing helps, but the truth is I could never give them up. They are about 15 years old.

When this happens, it's best to softly call their name, " come on Freddy ". This gives reassurance and comfort. Your cat may come and settle with you ❤😊

@frangeewong6215 Interesting story on how I met , kept him. I came home from work and saw this little grey Tabby kitten. I tried to coax him but he ran into our garage which is a junk jungle. I told him , I hope my tom cat Sylvester doesn't find you , he may not like it. I keep a food bowl out there. Opossum & racoons enjoy it too. Rural area . Sylvester was HUGE (RIP buddy) , and he went out looking for trouble a lot.
I went to work the next day , and someone asked me if I owned a grey kitten. I don't but I saw one yesterday , why do you ask?
He said, I just saw one come out from underneath your pickup. This was at lunch time. So I went out trying to call trying find it with some chkn from my lunch. No luck. I come home . Keep in mind it's 25 miles TO work 1 way. I get home there is Sylvester waiting for me in the driveway like usual. Hey Sylvester, how you doing... He walks past me. I turn around and here comes this grey kitten from my truck right up to Sylvester! WTH is happening? Sylvester walks up to him , AND Sylvester would not let me get close to this kitten ! He stayed in-between me and the kitten. The kitten ran up to him . This kitten , Lil Bit I think may be Sylvester's offspring. That kitten rode 50 miles underneath my pickup , and the tom cat is the one that brought him here. Lil Bit is HUGE just like Sylvester was.

Toward the end of the video, it showed a woman offering balls of yarn to the cats to play with....Don't do this!!! Cats take the end of the yarn strand in their mouth, swallow it (they can't spit it out because the comb surface of their tongue grabs it), and in the intestines, the yarn makes loops and ties up their intestines causing a blockage. Many vets report removing yarn from cat intestines....it's considered a life-threatening emergency. Don't let them get ahold of sewing thread, either, or dental floss you may have used and thrown in a bathroom trash can. DANGER! Don't let them play with plastic wrappers, such as off of a cigarette pack, pack of crackers, etc. because that reacts with their stomach acid (if swallowed) and turns into a glass-like sharp substance. Needless to say, none of us want to hurt our beloved cats accidentally.

In 1995 after having my sweetheart cat for fifteen years since she was just weeks old, I got injured and had to put her in a local cat-shelter that accepted her. About three months later I went to see her, she was deep inside a cat-house thing and she wouldn’t even acknowledge me!! She totally ignored me…she was really angry, or something! It felt like she was saying, ‘how could you have abandoned me’. It really hurt that she would not come to me and let me touch her! It appears that cats can hold a grudge toward an ‘owner’ if the person is suddenly gone! They loved her there and even took my cat into their home there on the property. She lived for five more years, thankfully well taken care of.

I always greet my two cats when I return home from work. I talk to them; pet them; one of them waits for me to pat my bed for her to come up while I am changing out of work clothes. They both know that it will take about a half hour for me to put everything away from my day before they can eat. At other times if they need food they each have very different ways of letting me know but they are patient when I come home from work.
As to loud sounds, when I drop something in the kitchen sink, they start to run, but as soon as I say quietly "Sorry, it's okay" they literally turn around and return to me.
One of my cats meows when drinking water in the kitchen and I am not in the same room. I always call out and ask if she is alright and go to check on her. She comes to me and there is absolutely nothing wrong.
