There's nothing wrong with the modern control scheme. Pressing the look button resets the camera behind Lara instantly when it gets stuck. Everyone is so quick to dismiss the modern controls at the drop of a hat.
I personally use Modern controls for moving in general and shooting enemies as I find them easier for these situations. However I automatically switch to Tank controls when platforming is involved coz modern ones in this case suck absolute a**!
@@Meriem1603 With modern controls you can build up momentum with Lara, even on small platforms, by running in a small circle then jumping off the edge. It's personal preference, of course, but I find a lot of the complaints against the modern control scheme happen when people are still trying to control Lara as if tank controls are still on. You have to re-learn how she moves under modern controls. Otherwise, yes, just stick with tank controls.
@@Progger11I think it's a bit of both, I personally see the potential in modern controls but some things definitely need to get fixed or tweaked, and the tutorials in Lara's home don't change if you're using modern controls, and some features are never even explained because of that. Also, the modern graphics camera is slightly different even if you use tank controls, usually it's fine but I found it annoying in a boss fight, and in the expansion because there's a somewhat hidden platform that you can only see with the original camera unless you specifically look up there

You play very well for the first time. These games were considered very hard in their times. Most people couldn't finish them as kids/teenagers. I was one of them. Only finish all of them as adult.

Love seeing someone play these games for the first time! PS: in the original tank controls, controlling Lara is independent from the camera. Kinda like the classic Resident Evil games where pressing right or left would make you turn instead of walk.
Oh yes please! ❤ Play the entire trilogy. The games become even better each entry. The environments, setting, and mysteries of 2 and 3 look amazing, you'll love them a lot just by visiting their locations already. You'll even notice some upgrades as you carry on. Even if 2 is my #1 favorite TR game, there are so many different things and scenarios going on in the 3rd game that sometimes I might even reconsider which of these 2 games are better😂
The modern controls are the reason you having that problem with the camara. But I would use the dpad instead of the analogs if you intend on using classic tank controls.
Loving the playthrough so far its nice to know there are others somewhat new to the older games besides watching their dad play it. I used to call it pew pew as a kid 😅Glad to see you are enjoying it too
New on your channel just watch part 1 & 2 nice to watch it been played first time tr 1 is one of my all-time favourites i although the PlayStation version did my head in with PlayStation consoler and the could only save when when you saw blue save crystals and ways look forward to next part thanks
Don't feel bad about saving. In fact, as you progress through the series you will probably want multiple saves for the chapter as you might have to go back 2 saves to correct a mistake. Additionally, if you truly get stuck ask chat for hints. Some things will not be intuitive, others will be so obvious that you think it can't be the solution.
Even if I didn't grow up with the PS1 and never had one, I grew up with Gameboy Advance and DS as a kid and always saved a lot as well. Autosaves were not that common back then. The only thing that terrifies me about saving in Tomb Raider classics is the way it always records my number of saves even after I finished playing the games. It showed me I had saved 200-500 times 😂. Maybe 620 even, I don't remember anymore but it was a lot of saves geez
Love watching you play this, watching though it seems the tank like controls I’d have an easier time with haha. But I really like the new graphics remaster. I don’t remember the camera in the originals being so awkward and jumpy like that though.
Halo Anniversary from 2011 was the first one where you could switch between old and new graphics if I'm not mistaken. Nice to see this feature dripping down to other remasters.
You're probably getting tired of hearing about "using tank controls," but the jump at 52:20 highlights why they're necessary. You have to slide down backward (facing away from the ramp, tab backwards on tank controls) in order to access the secret area by jumping backward. Modern controls don't facilitate this maneuver (along with many other instances where tank controls are essential). Tank controls enable side cartwheel jumps and other maneuvers that are crucial for accessing certain secret areas. Enjoying the videos... :)
You can do backflips and side flips just fine with modern controls. The problem is the tutorial doesn’t teach you how, so people just assume you can’t.
I abandoned the 'modern controls' for the tank controls. It's slightly slower but much more precise, no more running into walls and falling off ledges :)
@@LIZZgame The camera issues you are experiencing are due to the modern controls as the game wasn't designed with that. Hope you are enjoying the game so far :) out of all the original games i think that the first game captures the sense of exploration and adventure the most and it is also a lot scarier than the rest. More gameplay mechanics get introduced from Tomb Raider 2 and onwards btw
honestly tho, you really should use the tank controls as thats the way the game was designed to work. you will find it much easier to shoot and evade mobs at the same time. not to mention dropping backwards off ledges. you will thank me later.
2:37 This switch was quite well camouflaged before the remaster. I’ve seen some Let’s Players take a lot longer to realise that there was something they could interact with there. 26:46 That may be the best reaction to Threateningly Collapsing Mummy I’ve ever seen. 55:29 Taking lessons from Pierre? Pity you chose to major in ‘vengefully shooting the dead’ rather than ‘vanishing when a fight gets a bit much’. 55:52 Great reaction to the loopy architecture.
St. Francis' Folly is probably my favorite level of the game, because I love both exploring and climbing in games. It also has a timed secret that you can only get to with a perfectly executed series of moves. Not that I ever discovered this on my own. In fact, I probably missed about half the secrets in the game. As for ladders, they show up in Tomb Raider II, which adds climbing to Lara's moves. In general, each of the first four Tomb Raider games adds something new to her moves. If I recall correctly, the second adds climbing, the third one adds "monkey swinging" (grabbing something overhead and using it to cross gaps), the fourth adds crawling, and the fifth added tightrope walking. The sixth game added stealth, sprinting, and a ton of bugs. Seriously, the game is broken in lots of ways.
I love seeing someone play the original badass girl Lara, you definitely need to play the trilogy, 3 is the best one in my opinion, but be warned these games get increasingly more difficult the closer you get to the end of them and all I can say is practice with the tank controls and get used to the mechanics and it will be easier for you in the tough spots, we all got through the games back in the day with the tank controls, that's the way the game was designed and developed, good luck, these old school games ain't no walk through the park, but incredibly satisfying when you accomplish a completion
St Francis Folly is one of my favourite Tomb Raider levels ever, all I'll say to you is the further you get, the more you realise that the game is trying to kill you 😂
Yes, the game can be frustrating.... :) However, back at times it was like revelation, the first of its kind. I remember I could not believe the graphic... :)

Hi liz just a heads up in these 3 games u might have a better time switching to tank controls u might have difficulty until u get used to it but once u do u wont wanna go back to modern to be honest modern in these games are worse than tanks plus in tank control no camera issues :)
100% you should use tank controls. You will not have the camera issues with tank controls. Also the game works on grid system. This grid works with tank controls. Just like you said you need tank controls to get to that secret. You need tank controls to traverse most of the game. So, go back to Laras home. Spend a long time practicing with tank controls.
