This is a Motormouth couple car review of the all-new 2026 Subaru Forester Wilderness model.
The NEW 2026 Subaru Forester Wilderness is on display at the Chicago Auto Show! Subaru says, it has more standard features, greater capability and refinement compared to the outgoing model. We don’t have pricing and all the trim details, but we do know it will be hitting dealerships this fall.
The 2026 Subaru Forester Wilderness is powered by a 2.5L 4-cylinder matched to a CVT, 180 horsepower and 178 lb-ft of torque, standard Symmetrical full-time AWD. This model has upgraded capability, 10% stiffer rigidity, advanced dual function X-Mode, enhanced cooling and more towing capability, 3500 pounds. It still has the same Wilderness specific features like an off-road tuned suspension, but the suspension has been upgraded. For 2026, the Wilderness model gets the latest generation of EyeSight driver assist technology.
The 2026 Subaru Forester Wilderness offers improved approach, departure and breakover angles compared to the rest of the Forester lineup. Approach is 23.5 degrees, breakover 21 degrees and departure angle 25.5 degrees.
The 2026 Subaru Forester Wilderness has increased ground clearance of 9.3", Wilderness specific badging and 17” wheels with all-terrain Yokohama Geolandar tires. It adds signature styling elements like LED hexagonal fog lights, underbody protection and copper exterior accents including front and rear bumper tow hook covers. The standard roof rails have an 800-pound static load capacity, 176 pounds when driving.
The 2026 Subaru Forester Wilderness has more standard features than the outgoing model including integrated navigation, a Harman Kardon sound system, a 12.3” digital gauge cluster and an 11.6” touchscreen with wireless Apple Carplay and Android Auto. The Wilderness has a unique interior design with Wilderness graphics and all-weather seating.
