"Find something that is rejuvenating to you". - best advice ever, no matter whether you're a mom, an over-worked person, or someone that is retired and dealing with health issues of your spouse. We all MUST find something that brings joy to our soul and our faces on the regular. SO important to not getting depressed/overwhelmed by life.

What I see from watching your family is parents who treat their kids as worthwhile human beings. I get the sense that you give them room to make mistakes and treat it as a learning experience rather than a reason to punish. You make them feel valid and part of a team rather than a hierarchy. That's so monumentally important to raising confident, kind young people.

At 2 or 3, pick up your toys, learning please and thank you, sit to eat supper, help set the table, 10 minute tidy, etc...you get the idea. A chain of events happened and they were fortunate to start learning from you. Imagine all the pre skills they might have missed. It helped give me patience when my grandsons moved in, and made me think, what is missing here, how can we together fix this situation?

I totally agree about sleep patterns for kids. It is so important we had set bedtimes for our kids growing up and even into the teenage years. It helps them get the proper rest and it also gives mom and dad to have quiet time together. Our kids weren't allowed to have cell phones till 14. It was because we lived in the country and our kids traveled a 1/2 hour on the bus to school. Which in reality was only 10 minutes from our house. We wanted them to be able to reach up asap if there was an emergency. You are so right about as a mom of young children u need to have time for urself. I use to evening walk with my friend. It was just us girls walking and talking. I use to also have a mini pedi once a month. It was my me time.

I loved the conversation about not caring what other people think, I struggled with that in my early 20s to such a huge degree…Now, I’m in my early 40s and that’s not the case at all anymore. The phrase comes to mind from a Jo Dee Messina song from the 90s…”My give-a-damn’s busted”. It took me a long time to get to that point and it’s such a weight off. Not that I don’t care at all…just not about the things that don’t really matter. 😉

Loved the advice on getting something for yourself as a mom. My kids are 1,4 and 7 and it’s hard at the moment, but you saying it gets better was what I needed to hear today. Thank you!

Same. I don't allow social media either. My 14 yr old has a phone available only for babysitting/safety and then it goes back in my room. We also do modest birthday and Christmas so that we can go on some type of trip. We spend a lot of time together!!!

I love to hear that you don't let your kids on social media, when we wouldn't allow that for my stepdaughter her mom set it up behind our back, but that is a hard limit at our house. So good to see your daughter give your love now that she understands why 🥰

I love how the daughter in the back seat was nodding her head on the "don't open my mouth" answer! 🤪

Nothing like a road trip. You gotta little sun and had a lot of fun. Thanks for the ride.
    Love Pappadeaux and Babe's.
    Both still good.

A week of wilderness camp in Zion!?! Jealous!! 😍. Angels Landing is the best and toughest trail I’ve hiked so far. (at 35 and again at 50). Maybe I’ll give it another try one day. Hope that one’s on their itinerary!

You have some good ideas there! Love the communication! Big one!! And the kids not having social media, I don’t have them either! And I am wayyyy over being a teen. 🤣

My kids are 9, 6 and almost 4 - your ryles on the phone thing is great! I do not want my kids having phones or social media until they are much older! I may make an exception for the phone a bit younger if they're walking places on their own like school, but defo no social media!
