I bought a box of tapes at a second-hand shop in Portsmouth about 25 years ago. There was a recording of Friday Night Is Music Night from the mid-70s, which included Tommy Trinder singing this song. One of those songs my great aunt used to sing to herself when I was little. Also remember seeing him on TV well into the 80s, still wearing that trademark hat! He must have been a character!
How lucky you are finding that box of tapes. I used to tape a lot from the radio and that's where I got the Tommy Trinder song from. My mother also used to sing this song to us kids but she made up her own words to it and it was many years before I found out I was singing the wrong words. 😊
This was performed in an old school play I was in about 15 years ago. I randomly remembered it and started singing the whole thing to myself this morning 😄 Beautiful. Thanks for the upload 💕
Is this a recording of the old TV series "The Good old Days" where modern performers recreated old music hall acts? The "Gladiators" one-liner he slipped in suggests an early 1990s date for this so Trinder would be getting on a bit by this point.
This is a clip from a Tommy Trinder performance at Butlin's Holiday Camp, Clacton-on-Sea, in 1959. The audio was on an old cassette I once had and the images are from Tommy's film "Champagne Charlie". I can see why you'd think it could have been from "The Good Old Days"..... and what a good programme that was!
How lucky you are to have Tommy Trinder in your family. He's made me laugh many a time in his films, on the radio and anywhere else I saw or heard him. What a legend! Very nice to hear from you.
@@bmoviefan100 Yes. My mother hadn't met him and she only told me a few weeks ago. So now I'm trying to find family. Done my DNA so I know it's all good. and spoken to one of the trinders. And she had sent me some great photos of him. Very lucky indeed. Many thanks for your comment. And thanks for uploading it's great.
@@dltucker1295 I'm going to subscribe to you because I have no 'Madness' records but you have them in your playlist. We share one favourite in our playlists and that is 'Show Must Go On' by Queen, what a fantastic record that is. Love it!
Hi Luke My mums family are Trinders and were huge across all of Southwark London. Im tracing lots of family and have wondered if we are related to Tommy Trinder. Ive also done a DNA test, Would you like to see if we are related? Did you use ancestry> Cheers Janice

So glad you enjoyed it. My mother used to make up her own words to this song and make us all laugh. Happy memories. 😁
Loved the film and the music! Great one Vick!
Great Music Hall
Tommy Trinder was such a wonderful entertainer and I'm so glad you enjoyed his performance.
There's something wrong with this film it freezes at the same point every time and looks like I've watched the whole thing
Hello John, I've just played the video and it didn't freeze. Can you tell me the time when it is freezing when you play it?

@@bmoviefan100 I wonder if they had an earlier version of Gladiators at Butlins?
Sorry, but I really don't know.....
Von Ribbentrop was partner in his father in law`s champagne firm.
I'm guessing that you are referring to his first wife's father but I could, of course, be wrong.
@@bmoviefan100 That said Irene Dumler is first wife of Mengele. Egon Dumler was my NYC attorney. Could have been related???!!
Tommy trinder is my 3rd cousin on my mother's side.

@@bmoviefan100 No problem. Madness was one of my dad's favourites. Played a madness and a queen song at his funeral.
