  • Are you a Bond, Incredible Sweater Machine, Ultimate Sweater Machine, or Fashion Knitter knitting machine user? These machines did not come with a cast-on comb, and other brands of combs do not fit because these are 8 mm from needle to needle. Now there's a cast-on comb on the market. Diana shows how to use it and reviews it.

    Great! Will be faster and easier than my cast-on rag and ravel cord. Glad there is now a cast-on comb that fits my Bond machines!

    Thank goodness for these combs. I purchased an Ultimate Sweater Machine - new - about 10 years ago. I worked up a little swatch, and then, because I was working full time and had other responsibilities, I packed it away. I took it all out yesterday, SO happy that I never sold it, and started setting it up. The one thing that didn't fare well was the vinyl cast on hem. It was mangled because it was smushed into a corner of the box. I could kick myself, but at least this is easy to replace, and with a much better-quality comb. Thank you for this video, and for all the expertise you share with us.

      Kris still has the combs! She is having more difficulty getting things manufactured in the US due to high costs, etc,. so if you want a comb get it asap. Here is the link to her MK items: www.kriskrafter.com/shop?Category=Knitting%2520Machine%2520Accessories

    I was ready to give up on my old Bond machine because of the vinyl cast on hem as mention below. Thank you for sharing your video and where to purchase the solution. I purchased on today and can't wait to use the Old Bond again. I still think the older heavy knitting machines are better for beginners and less frustrating. If I had not found your videos I would have given up on these machines a long time ago. Looking forward to watching your videos in 2024. Happy New Year.

      I agree with you that the heavier Japanese knitting machines are better to use, less frustrating, and more feature-laden; however, I also wanted to help people with whatever machines they have. This comb is one solution. Another one is the cast-on rag which I teach here: ruclips.net/video/yTct5mmq5QQ/видео.html&pp=ygUaZGlhbmEgc3VsbGl2YW4gY2FzdC1vbiByYWc%3D

    Those combs look terrific. I hope she decides to make them in other needle spacing so, e.g.6.5 and 9 mm.

    I just ordered the cast on combs, (haven't been delivered yet), and I searched for how to videos, and landed here. You taught me how to knit cast on rags, which I have a few. I love your voice. Question: can I use fishing line as ravel cord?

    • @dianaknits
      @dianaknits  8 месяцев назад

      I suppose you could, but i think it would be stiff and hard on your hands. I like Artiste brand nylon crochet cord, which is about as thick as bedspread cotton. I used to get it at Hobby Lobby but I have recently seen it on Amazon.

    This is wonderful to see for the Bond machines. But is it possible to have a good edge doing just an e-wrap? No waste yarn used? Thank you

    • @dianaknits
      @dianaknits  2 года назад +2

      E-wrap is stretchy and won't unravel. However, it does not do anything to deal with the curling that occurs on that edge. You usually need a hem or latched ribbing on the bottom edge, or you need to add an edging later.

    I'm an extreme beginner with machine knitting. Would you please explain why you used the scrap (pink) yarn before the project yarn (yellow) at the beginning and why you switched to use the green ravel cord, and then your project yarn. I got a bit confused. I think I understood that the green is smooth so it can slip out, but why not use that in the beginning instead of the pink scrap yarn? Does it need to be used or are you able to just do the e-wrap and then hang the comb on that?

    • @dianaknits
      @dianaknits  2 года назад +1

      We need a few rows with waste yarn to put an edge on it. This cast on will easily unravel from the bottom, but if the knitting unravels a couple rows you won't lose it all. If all you had was the ravel cord it would unravel and fall apart. Later when you put a finished edge on the bottom, you discard the waste knitting.

    I have set my machine up apx 27 times, so I know how to do it LOL. It seems that after I do my first row and turn to do the second row THE WHOLE HEM AND ROW (I did get to a second row but a few stitches dropped) actually falls on the floor. I’m so baffled as I’ve watched videos and nothing has been addressed. I did buy it used so did I get a dud? Or am I the dud?

    • @dianaknits

      Could the yarn be coming out of the notch that feeds it? Or, alternatively, could the latches on the hooks be closed? Those are my first two thoughts. If I think of something else, I'll come back and add it. Hey, USM knitters, can you help Melissa with some ideas?

    • @widerwoman
      @widerwoman 3 года назад +1

      I had an issue with my latches being kind of stiff. They weren't wanting to open and close smoothly. I used the wax for the plates and rubbed on the latches while open and while closed then opened and closed them a couple times. This helped. Other than that, what I find is most often the culprit for dropped stitches is not enought weight on the project.

      I had the same problem on the Fashion Knitter. Has the same shuttle as the Sweater Knitter. I discovered that there was tape in exactly the same color as the shuttle across the area where the thread goes in. The front of the shuttle. Pulled that off and there was the hole to hold the yarn. No mention in instructions that there was tape on the front of the shuttle. Bad design on by Bond to have the tape match the shuttle exactly. Now I can knit! Hope that helps.😊
